Planning for teaching
Definition of planning
 It is the only way to ensure that your educational objectives
are achieved.
 Begins with thinking about how you would like your
students to approach their learning in your subject, and
what you would like them to understand, know or be able
to do by the end of the session.
Definition of planning
 Begins with thinking about how you would like your
students to approach their learning in your subject, and
what you would like them to understand, know or be able
to do by the end of the session.
lesson plan
 Is the teacher's guide for running a particular lesson, and it
includes the goal (what the students are supposed to
learn), how the goal will be reached (the method,
procedure) and a way of measuring how well the goal was
reached (test, worksheet, homework etc.).
Characteristics of good lesson
planning
1) Lesson planning should be in a written form.
2) The general and important objectives should be
clearly defined.
3) should relate to suitable teaching method and its use.
4) A continuity component reviews and reflects on
content from the previous lesson.
5) Subject, time , class, average age of the students should be
mentioned in the lesson plan.
6) Important examples should be included in lesson planning.
Inspirational or motivational methods should be experimented
in lesson planning.
8) In lesson planning, the time for each topic should appropriately
be pre determined.
9) In lesson planning, the techniques and supportive materials of
education like charts, maps and other audio-visual materials and
its utilization should be written.
The Importance of Lesson
Planning
 Provides a coherent framework for smooth efficient teaching.
 Helps the teacher to be more organized.
 Gives a sense of direction in relation to the syllabus ‫الدراسي‬ ‫المنهج‬.
 Helps the teacher to be more confident when delivering the
lesson.
 Provides a useful basis for future planning.
 Helps the teacher to plan lessons which cater for ‫لة‬ ‫تلبية‬ different
students.
 Is a proof ‫دليل‬ that the teacher has taken a considerable amount of
effort in his/her teaching
 steps of teaching panning
 the eight essential steps should included in your lesson
plan.
 They are the objective and goals, the anticipatory set,
direct instruction, guided practice, closure, independent
practice, required materials and equipment, assessment
and follow-up.
 Each of these eight components will make up one perfect
lesson plan.
1- Objectives and Goals
 The lesson's objectives must be clearly defined and in line
with district and/or state educational standards.
 The goal of setting objectives and goals is also to make sure
you know what you're trying to accomplish within the
lesson.
 This helps you determine what the students should take
away from the lesson, and how you will go about ensuring
that they are successful in mastering the material at hand.
2-Anticipatory Set ‫التوقعات‬
 Before you dig into the meat of your lesson's instruction, it's
important to set the stage for your students by tapping into
their prior knowledge and giving the objectives a context.
 In the Anticipatory Set section, you outline what you will say
and/or present to your students before the direct instruction
of the lesson begins.
 This is a great way for you to make sure you're prepared to
introduce the material and can do so in a way that your
students will relate to easily.
Planning for teaching
3- Direct Instruction
 When writing your lesson plan, this is the section where you
explicitly delineate ‫ديية‬ ‫وصة‬ how you will present the lesson's
concepts to your students.
 Your methods of Direct Instruction could include reading a book,
displaying diagrams, showing real-life examples of the subject
matter, or using props ‫.الدعائم‬
 It's important to consider the various learning styles within your
class, and determine what methods of teaching will best resonate.
 Sometimes, creativity can pay off in engaging students and
helping them understand the material.
Planning for teaching
4-Guided Practice
 Quite literally ‫ديية‬ ‫بشةلل‬, this is the time where you oversee
and guide students practicing what they have learned so
far.
 Under your supervision, the students are given a chance to
practice and apply the skills you taught them through
direct instruction.
 The Guided Practice activities can be defined as either
individual or cooperative learning.
Planning for teaching
5-Closure
 In the Closure section, outline how you will wrap up ‫تختةتم‬
the lesson by giving the lesson concepts further meaning
for your students.
 Closure is the time when you wrap up a lesson plan and
help students organize the information into meaningful
context in their minds.
Planning for teaching
6-Independent Practice
 Through homework assignments or other independent
assignments, your students will demonstrate whether or
not they absorbed the lesson's learning goals.
 Through Independent Practice, students have a chance to
reinforce skills and synthesize their new knowledge by
completing a task on their own and away from the teacher's
guidance.
7-Required Materials and Equipment
 Here, you determine what supplies are required to help
your students achieve the stated lesson plan objectives.
 The Required Materials section will not be presented to
students directly, but rather is written for the teacher's own
reference and as a checklist before starting the lesson.
 This is your own personal preparation.
8-Assessment and Follow-Up
 The lesson doesn't end after your students complete a
worksheet.
 The assessment section is one of the most important parts
of all.
 This is where you assess the final outcome of the lesson
and to what extent the learning objectives were achieved.
Planning for teaching
Effective lesson planning
 Planning ahead to identify a course of action that can
effectively help learners reach their goals and objectives is
an important first step in effective instruction.
 Lesson planning communicates to learners what they will
learn and how their goals will be assessed, and it helps
instructors organize content, materials, time, instructional
strategies, and assistance in the class-room.
Ways to Create an Effective Lesson Plan
 “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn.”
– Benjamin Franklin
 Identify the learning objectives you would like to cover in the
lesson.
 Design teaching and learning activities that will bring the
educational content to life.
 Provide time for the proper closure of the lesson.
How do I plan to teach effectively?
Cue ‫إشارات‬ the 7 habits of highly effective lesson
plan(ner)s:
 Start with the end in mind. This may sound obvious ‫واضح‬, but
it's not how all teachers start.
 Take the shortest path.
 Assess reliably and efficiently.
 Build learning that lasts.
 Anticipate the unexpected.
 Move towards inter-lesson planning.
 Plan better together.
Limitations of Lesson-Planning:
1. In new or odd situations teacher feels himself helpless.
2. Sometimes simple matters become complicated.
3. More time is required to plan a lesson.
4. Teacher cannot work/teach independently.
5. There is lack of flexibility in lesson-planning.
6. The teaching process becomes more difficult.
