Innovative
Communication and Service Design for
Development and Health
We provide innovative communication and
service design solutions that improve development
and health outcomes for underserved populations
living in low resource settings.
Designing healthy systems
in a healthy way
We research, design, develop and implement
new concepts and strategies using a human centered
approach, filling innovation gaps particularly in the area
of reproductive, maternal and newborn child health.

The Better Outcomes in Labour Diffi-culty
(BOLD) initiative, launched by the
World Health Organization and M4ID
seeks to research and design a set of
new tools to support health workers
in providing appropriate care during
childbirth and to increase demand for
respectful, quality care among commu-nities
in low resource settings. The two
year project uses a human centered
approach to identify and co-design
solutions together with women and
midwives in low resource settings.

COMMUNICATION
SAFE BIRTH
EVEN HERE.
Communicating
the urgent need
to support safe
births in crisis
settings
Safe Birth.Even Here is a social media
based campaign designed for UNFPA
to engage the general public, emer-gency
sector stakeholders and the
donor community in maternal health in
crisis settings. The campaign enables
midwives in six locations to report on
a safe birth and for the public to share
and celebrate the good news. People
are also able to send a message of
support to the midwife as well as the
family. With each social media share,
corporate sector partners also donate
funds to UNFPA.
iDELIVER
Improving
quality of
intrapartum
care
The iDeliver project, carried out for Merck
for Mothers, seeks to design a digital tool
to assist midwives during intrapartum
care and capture data to measure, identify
gaps and intervene to improve the quality
of intrapartum care. M4ID is validating the
iDeliver vision through a human centered
service design approach with interviews,
observations and co-design activities in
Kenya and India, prioritizing requirements
and designing the high level concept for
the iDeliver MVP.

WOMEN’S REFUGEE
COMMISSION
Enabling
a digital
community of
practice
The project uses Facebook to bring
together frontline health providers in
crisis-affected areas, linking them with
each other as well as external experts for
learning and skills sharing. The commu-nity
is supported through six innovative
applications, including the first ever SMS
text to Facebook connect, an information
center as well a mentoring service. M4ID
designed the community strategy using
the REEAN (Reach, Entice, Engage, Acti-vate,
Nurture) community building model.

MIMBA
Mobilizing
people globally
to engage
in MNCH
Mimba is a global platform to advance
women’s health and rights. The service
will connect people with a need to people
with the means and willingness to con-tribute
to women’s health and rights in a
tangible manner. Envisioned as the new
underground, Mimba is fast,curious and
on a constant quest for a better world.
Personal growth, issue knowledge and
local community connection will be key to
an engaging experience.

Leveraging
social media for
health outreach
and crisis
communication
Development of a Regional and 56
country office wide social media strategy,
including a social media staff policy as
well as a detailed plan for effective com-munication
during a health crisis. As part
of the roll out of the strategy, M4ID also
designed two online campaigns as well
as carrying out training sessions for staff
across the Europe region.

WHO
Mobilizing
public support
for the need to
make hospital
safe in disasters
Design of a social media based campaign
to raise awareness of the urgent need to
make hospitals across Asia safe from di-sasters.
Launched the campaign through
the slogan #Disasters Strike in Seconds -
WHO needs you to react fast together with
a reaction tester online. The appeal was
signed by over 250,000 within three weeks
and handed over to Ministries of Health
across South-East Asia. Supporters were
able to follow progress on an interactive
map of the region.

Gynuity is conducting research studies
to test the new Semi Quantitive Preg-nancy
Test (SQPT) in support of medical
abortion in low resource settings. M4ID
is developing an IVR system to conduct
remote follow up with women and assist
them in the interpretation of the SQPT
test. The system will be prototyped and
tested in two locations.
