CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
SPAIN INDIA
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
India is a high context culture, there is much reliance on nonverbal gestures. In
India, people greet each other using the word Namaste and they put their palms
together in front of their chest and give a slight bow of the head. This casual or
formal greeting is a custom in all of India. Used to begin and end with, Namaste
literally means “I bow to you”-my greetings or salutations. Men will shake hands,
but not with women. Women should never initiate the handshake.
DINING CUSTOMS
While drinking lips should not touch others food or drink. If you share drink pour the
liquid instead of posing lips. Furthermore, this practice is very healthy in India,
where drench public health problems. The Indians eat with their fingers, a habit that
can be difficult for a Westerner. They have the belief that the right hand does noble
tasks and left the less graceful tasks. Therefore it is eaten with the right hand and
shoes are removed with the left.In the bathroom the left hand is used and if a gift is
given it is delivered with the right or both, but never just left.
