Little boys always go crazy when they see the local fire truck wailing and blazing on the
street. What boy wouldn’t love to be a heroic firefighter when he grows up?
As parents, you should always support your son’s ambition. As early as now, you can
help him imagine how it feels like to be one of the local firemen. Here is the first of two
bedroom designs we recommend to match your little boy’s fire truck bedding.
Remember, these are all suggestions. You can take as much of them as you like, or as
little. One thing is for sure. You must always ask your son about his take on the fire
station bedroom you are designing for him.
Paint the walls with a warm red hue, such as maroon, burgundy, carmine, or terra cotta.
Don’t opt for the vibrant tomato reds, though, because this will not help your little boy
when he needs to rest and relax. Liven up the walls by putting up fire hall paraphernalia
on plastic hooks. You can look for a kid-sized firefighter outfit at your local costume
store to hang on the hooks. Or you can do something meaningful by paying a tribute to
your local town’s firefighters.
Here is a suggestion. Browse through your old newspapers and look for news stories
about successful firefighter adventures. Cut them out and put them in frames, which you
can later hang on the wall. You can also look for these stories in the library, but you will
need to have them photocopied since librarians prohibit their visitors from cutting out the
pages of books and newspapers. This is a great way to inspire your boy about the good
things a firefighter can do for his fellows.
You can also paint your son’s bed frame red and black so that it looks like a fire truck.
This will also match his fire truck bedding. If you have two little boys, you can put a
bunk bed in the bedroom. Not only will this save space, you can also make use of the
bunk beds in designing the fire station bedroom. If your boys are old enough, you can
install a fireman’s pole beside the bed so they can take turns going down their own pole.
Remember, though, that the pole is strictly for big boys who can take care of themselves.
Don’t install the pole yet if you think your boys are not ready for it.
Don’t forget to include bedroom accessories that match your son’s fire truck bedding.
Use simple black and white rugs and furniture to balance the red in the room. Go out and
find a plain black circular mat where your son can sit on and play with his fire trucks and
other toys. Also, no decent fire station will be complete without the ever-reliable
Dalmatian. Find a plush Dalmatian to display in your son’s bedroom. He can become one
of the best friends your little firefighter can have.
