JagannathRathYatra on 14th January
ISKCON Celebrates Golden Jubilee
The Annual JagannathRathYatra will be held
on 14th January, 2016 (Thursday) under the
auspices of International Society for Krishna
Consciousness (ISKCON), Chennai Chapter.
ISKCON, founded by His divine grace A. C.
Bhakthivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966
is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee.
The RathYatra will start from Kapaleeswarar
Temple, Mylaporebetween 2:30 and
3:30 pm. and will reach the venue at
ChetpetKuchalambalKalyanaMandapam.
The procession will go through R.K
Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road,
Dr.RadhakrishnanSalai, Cathedral Road, N.H.
Road and Village Road.
During the procession, ISKCON will distribute
about 10,000 plates of prasadam to the general
public. Everyone is invited to join and pull the
Rath, which is by far the biggest RathYatra in
Chennai. Many school children across the city
will participate in the Yatra.
According to Mr. Das, of ISKCON “This is
the biggest RathYatra in Chennai. We have
been doing this annual ritual since 1983.
We take pride in bringing this wonderful
and colourful parade which gives an
opportunity for people to come together and
pay their respects to the Lord Jagannath.
Onlookers are taken by surprise to see Lord
Jagannath on a colourful cart, pouring out
his mercy. People excitedly wait for the
Prasadam (sweets) thrown from the Rath.
Swami SrilaPrabhupada inaugurated the
first RathaYatra outside India on 27th July
in the year of 1967 at San Francisco. The
history of Sri JagannathRathyatra festival
in Chennai dates back to 1983. The opulent
and grand chariot was built by a Canadian
devotee, HG Rasananda Das with substantial
contribution from Mr. Krishan Myer of
Automac, Ambattur. Mr. Ramesh Prasad,
Managing Director of Prasad Studios has
given space within to park and protect the

Makers of Star Kid singers Nalaiya Sigarangal’s

Science Camp for school
students of class 11th
and 12th from Chennai
and neighbouring
taluks, districts with a
total of 300 participants
attended various
workshop which was
held recently. SPACE,
a pioneer organization
working towards
development of science
and astronomy in India
has conducted the Sun
 Sky watch workshop.
“Innovation in Science
Pursuit for Inspired
Research” (INSPIRE)
is an Innovative
programme initiated
by the Department of
Science and Technology
to attract talents to the
excitement and study of
science at an early age.
The space workshop
makes it easy to discover
or share new contents in
this inspire camp 2015.
Each activity support
slightly different kinds
of content in their
workshop. Amazing
Astronomy a short
presentation was
given by S. Venkata
Narayanan, Zonal
Business Manager,
SPACE. This kind of
workshop is to provide
hands-on science
experiment in Astronomy
and Space Science as a
part of the conference
theme; this will ignite
the spark of Imagination
and Curiosity. Hands-
on learning changes the
student’s perception of
science from a ‘burden’
to a ‘discovery’. Students
enjoy challenges that are
fun and work towards a
better future.
The workshop was
inaugurated by Dr.
Alagiriswamy, Asst. Prof
SRM University Dept.
of Physics and Nano
Technology. He was
motivating the students
in his inaugural address
“This will attract a rare
mix of students from
across the schools and
those to whom these
issues are relatively
new. I ensure, there’s
something for everyone.
I am sure that this
side-line event will be
a memorable, highly
educational and ‘not-to-
be-missed’ event”. He
joined with audience
in appreciating the
SPACE team which
has discovered 20
new asteroids in the
past six years. A
short presentation on
Sun and its features
were presented to the
students. Through
this workshop students
learnt about how to
safely observe the Sun.
Students learnt how
Sun looks different when
viewed though a solar
filter, about different
solar features. Students
realized the importance
of using safe methods
for solar observation.
During the field
observation students
had hands-on practice
of aligning a telescope
towards Sun, viewing the
Sun through telescope
using solar filter and
projection method.
Pinhole projector and
solar view goggles were
used to have a safe look
at the Sun.
Dr.K.Ramamurthi,
Asst. Prof SRM
University launched
the Hydro Rocket and
also mentioned that
“This program is very
informative about
viewing the solar (sun).
Rocket launching
principle is enjoyed
by the students.
This has become
food for thought for
the students”. “The
students enjoy a lot and
therefore this serves a
purpose thanks for the
flawless efforts” said
Dr. Alagiriswamy in
his closing remarks of
the event. Khanishkaa
one of the participating
student said “It was an
amazing experience, it
is not every day you get
to see the sunspots in
the sun. I hope that they
implement practical
studies in schools
from a younger age for
better understanding of
science. I hope to see
the change soon”.

seminar focused
on the number of
papers prescribed
for the Prelims, and
Mains, the syllabus
to be covered and the
study schedule that is
needed to be planned
for the preparation.
The participants
were exposed to real
life situation of the
examination by experts
from the field and
young IAS aspirants
who have succeeded in
the previous years.

the participants
and highlighted the
milestones achieved
by Mr. N.K. Ragupathy
I.A.S.(retd.) during his
remarkable career and
the dynamism of Dr.
N. Ramachandran,

University, Tanjavur in
maintaining the quality
in technical education
and his passion
for environmental
protection and
preservation. The
participants were
apprised of the
coaching pattern of the
Peiyar I.A.S. Academy.

the evening, who had
held senior position
as Chairman, Staff
Selection Commission,
New Delhi and other
similar senior positions
in the Ministry of
Shipping, Ministry of

students on the mental
approach to be adopted
for any competitive
examination. He
advised the students
that they have to
discard the mental
blocks created by
medium instruction,
economical and social
background, gender
discrimination etc. He
specially mentioned
the efforts of Thanthai
Periyar for his social
reforms initiatives
which made the rural
and the oppressed
to compete. They
have to strive to
acquire knowledge
by focusing on the
syllabus, transform
acquired knowledge to
performance through
consistent practice.
He said that the CSAT
exam needs speed and
accuracy to ensure
success.
He also suggested that
the youngsters are to
have multi-tier career
path while approaching
the civil services exam.
If they prepare for the
civil services they can
easily get through
Group 1 Services of
TNPSC, Staff Selection
Commission exam,
Banking Services and
also into any of the
central services such
as IRS, Customs 
Central Excise etc.
They must have a
motivator who can help
them to accept failure
and move forward for
working to achieve
success. He advised
that they can choose

The Shringar music and dance festival prominently featured illustrious alumni of M.O.P. Vaishnav, who have gone on to prove their mettle in their chosen art. Artistes Krithika Natarajan and K. Dharini delivered scintillating classical music performances on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 respectively. ISKCON, founded by His divine grace A. C. Bhakthivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966 is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee. SPACE, a pioneer organization working towards development of science and astronomy in India has conducted the Sun Sky watch workshop. “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research” (INSPIRE) is an Innovative programme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology to attract talents to the excitement and study of science at an early age. The space workshop makes it easy to discover or share new contents in this inspire camp 2015. Each activity support slightly different kinds of content in their workshop. Amazing Astronomy a short presentation was given by S. Venkata Narayanan, Zonal Business Manager, SPACE. This kind of workshop is to provide hands-on science experiment in Astronomy and Space Science as a part of the conference theme; this will ignite the spark of Imagination and Curiosity. Hands- on learning changes the student’s perception of science from a ‘burden’ to a ‘discovery’. Students enjoy challenges that are fun and work towards a better future. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Alagiriswamy, Asst. Prof SRM University Dept. of Physics and Nano Technology. He was motivating the students in his inaugural address “This will attract a rare mix of students from across the schools and those to whom these issues are relatively new. I ensure, there’s something for everyone. I am sure that this side-line event will be a memorable, highly educational and ‘not-to- be-missed’ event”. He joined with audience in appreciating the SPACE team which has discovered 20 new asteroids in the past six years. A short presentation on Sun and its features were presented to the students. Through this workshop students learnt about how to safely observe the Sun. Students learnt how Sun looks different when viewed though a solar filter, about different solar features. Students realized the importance of using safe methods for solar observation. During the field observation students had hands-on practice of aligning a telescope towards Sun, viewing the Sun through telescope using solar filter and projection method. Pinhole projector and solar view goggles were used to have a safe look at the Sun. Dr.K.Ramamurthi, Asst. Prof SRM University launched the Hydro Rocket and also mentioned that “This program is very informative about viewing the solar (sun). Rocket launching principle is enjoyed by the students. This has become food for thought for the students”. “The students enjoy a lot and therefore this serves a purpose thanks for the flawless efforts” said Dr. Alagiriswamy in his closing remarks of the event. Khanishkaa one of the participating student said “It was an amazing experience, it is not every day you get to see the sunspots in the sun. I hope that they implement practical studies in schools from a younger age for better understanding of science. I hope to see the change soon”. The seminar focused on the number of papers prescribed for the Prelims, and Mains, the syllabus to be covered and the study schedule that is needed to be planned for the preparation. The participants were exposed to real life situation of the examination by experts from the field and young IAS aspirants who have succeeded in the previous years. Dr. Rajeswari Murugan, Director of the Periyar IAS Academy, welcomed the participants and highlighted the milestones achieved by Mr. N.K. Ragupathy I.A.S.(retd.) during his remarkable career and the dynamism of Dr. N. Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University, Tanjavur in maintaining the quality in technical education and his passion for environmental protection and preservation. The participants were apprised of the coaching pattern of the Peiyar I.A.S. Academy. Mr. Raghupathy I.A.S. (retd.), Chief Guest of the evening, who had held senior position as Chairman, Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi and other similar senior positions in the Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Steel and Ministry of Culture, guided the students on the mental approach to be adopted for any competitive examination. He advised the students that they have to discard the mental blocks created by medium instruction, economical and social background, gender discrimination etc. He specially mentioned the efforts of Thanthai Periyar for his social reforms initiatives which made the rural and the oppressed to compete. They have to strive to acquire knowledge by focusing on the syllabus, transform acquired knowledge to performance through consistent practice. He said that the CSAT exam needs speed and accuracy to ensure success. He also suggested that the youngsters are to have multi-tier career path while approaching the civil services exam. If they prepare for the civil services they can easily get through Group 1 Services of TNPSC, Staff Selection Commission exam, Banking Services and also into any of the central services such as IRS, Customs Central Excise etc. They must have a motivator who can help them to accept failure and move forward for working to achieve success. He suggested that 8 to 10 mock tests are mandatory for CSAT. He said that belief in oneself can definitely transform one’s dream to performance and achieve the set goal.A specific time management plan is essential to remain focused and shared his experience with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India when Dr. Kalam was working on the ‘Mangalyan Project’ as scientific advisor to the Prime Minister. Dr. N. Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University Tanjavur, in his Presidential address insisted that determination and dedication will ensure success. He advised the aspirants to work smartly. He inspired the students by emphasizing thatthe mental strength and the will to win accompanied by smart work are tools for success. He also advised the students that any deterring factorssuchaseconomic and social status, lack of English skill are to be knocked off and work diligently towards their aim. He quoted real life examples of differently abled persons who have succeeded in achieving their goal despite their handicap. Ms. Singal who was the topper in IAS during 2014, Ms. Binu Jebin selected for IFS the first visually challenged candidate and the case of Wilma Rudolf, a cripple by birth, an Afro American, succeeded in becoming Olympic Champion and won three Gold Medalsin athletics in a single Olympics through self-determination, hard work, and the ability to acknowledge failure and through consistent practice. Mr. Thirugnana sambandam, Director Operation, The Gateway International School shared his experience with I.A.S. toppers when he interviewed them for Times of India. He asked the aspirants to keep their ‘Why’ -their reason for aspiring for a career in the Civil Services strong for remaining focused in the preparation phase.
