1. Step-by-Step Guide to MLA Website Citation
1. Write the authors last name, followed by a comma, then first name. Close this entry with a
period. IF THERE IS NO AUTHOR, YOU MAY SKIP TO STEP TWO!
2. Write the title of the webpage within quotation marks, making sure there is a period at the end
(within the quotations).
3. In italics, type the name of the website, making sure to place a period afterward.
4. Next, write the name of the Institution or Organization affiliated with the site, followed by a
comma. IF THERE IS NO ORGANIZATION LISTED, USE n.p. INSTEAD.
5. Type the date that the site was published or last updated (day month year), followed by a
period. IF THERE IS NO DATE LISTED, USE n.d. INSTEAD.
6. List the medium of the publication. For materials found online, use the term “Web,” followed by
a period.
7. Lastly, list the date the source was accessed (that date you viewed it online). Be sure to list it in
the day month year format, followed by a period.
