How to start a healthy lifestyle 20 essential tips

  1. 1. By Stephanie Chan – Life Coach, Mentor, Presenter Sydney, Australia
  2. 2. Your body cannot function well if it’s de-hydrated, so aim for 1 litre per 22kgs of body weight per day. 1. Drink more water
  3. 3. Extreme self–consciousness, nerves or feeling uncomfortable interacting with other people are common hallmarks of social anxiety. Habit is more important than the quantity – just aim to get out for a 10 min walk a day, if that’s all you can manage. Once the habit is built you’ll find you’ll automatically increase effort. 2. Move
  4. 4. The road to social confidence is a curly one, but there are small steps you can begin to take – try these tips: Our bodies & minds love routine - getting up & going to bed at the same time every day works best for good sleep, & following daily routines allows you to create effortless good habits. 3. Maintain a routine
  5. 5. Raw and plant based foods are the easiest for us to digest and full of everything we need – eat lots of colour every day! 4. Eat plants
  6. 6. Sugar, e-numbers and food that has been changed from its natural state all wreak havoc with our digestion and overall health. A good rule to follow is “If your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize it, don’t eat it”. 5. Avoid processed foods
  7. 7. Fumes from our furniture/carpets/paint, household cleaning products & plastic or Teflon kitchenware add a toxic burden to our bodies that they could do without. Open windows, get good air-filtering plants, use natural cleaners like bicarb or vinegar, & begin to replace plastic and Teflon with glass and cast iron or stainless steel. 6. Reduce toxicity in your home
  8. 8. Our skin is our largest organ and highly porous – when we use commercial toiletries & cosmetics we basically add nasty chemicals straight to our bloodstream. “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin!” is a great rule to go by. 7. Go natural on your body
  9. 9. Sunshine is essential for vitamin D, and is great for our moods too! Get 20 minutes of morning sun a day if you can, and use organic coconut oil as a sunscreen for short exposures. 8. Get some sun
  10. 10. Connection with others is what gives our lives meaning – make time to be with those you love & enjoy, & be fully present when you are. 9. Connect
  11. 11. Most of us breathe shallowly in the top of our chests – set up reminders to breathe more deeply, preferably outdoors – it energizes, alkalizes and reduces toxicity. 10. Breathe
  12. 12. You don’t have to sit with a quiet mind & chant, but some form of meditation will be incredibly beneficial to your health. Try walking, colouring in, or simply focusing on breathing for just a few minutes a day, for greater clarity, focus & calm. 11. Practice a form of meditation
  13. 13. If you’re going to spend 5 days a week doing something then it’s important that it’s something you like. Money isn’t everything: passion & fulfillment will give you so much more in the overall quality of your life. 12. Enjoy the work you do
  14. 14. Lack of self-love is a destructive, insidious cancer of the spirit, and as important to our physical health as it is to our emotional wellbeing. If you feel unworthy, undeserving of love, or in any way not good enough, take steps to begin work on this. 13. Love yourself
  15. 15. Every study of successful people indicates that they get up early. When we start the day well we have more productive, focussed days & a feeling of progress can contribute significantly to our health & happiness. 14. Get up early
  16. 16. Remember what is important in life overall & try to focus on the important aspects, the things you have done well, & your bright future, rather than on what you don’t have or negative events of the past. 15. Keep perspective
  17. 17. Your inner voice, the story you tell yourself every day, has enormous power to influence your health & happiness – thoughts create our reality. That voice can be trained & re-shaped, so listen to it & see if it is supporting you or putting you down, & begin to overlay it with more positive messages. 16. Manage negative thoughts
  18. 18. Self-respect shows up in how we look after our bodies & also our minds, & how we choose to represent ourselves in this world. Start by pin-pointing the ways that you DON’T respect yourself & work on stopping those first. 17. Respect yourself
  19. 19. Learning & growing is essential to our overall happiness & great for the health of our brains – take up something that stretches your thoughts or learn a new skill. 18. Learn and grow
  20. 20. In an ever faster world it’s easy to spend all your time serving other people. Self-esteem suffers when we don’t spend time on & with ourselves, just doing things that bring us joy. We send a message to ourselves that we are not worth it. So make time for you. 19. Make time for you
  21. 21. One of the most essential things to great health, body & mind, is good quality sleep & enough of it. Prioritise it & treat it seriously – you’ll notice an immediate difference to your day, your productivity, your health, your moods & your focus. 20. Get enough sleep
