30. If a lubricant such as grease or a seizure-preventing agent is applied to the thread part; it may result in over-tightening of the spark
plug even if is tightened as per the standard tightening torque. Do not use a lubricant and a seizure-preventing agent.
How to correctly install spark plugs
Select the correct
plug wrench.
Pay adequate attention while installing the spark plug. Especially, excessive or even inadequate tightening torque can damage to the spark plug or the engine.
Therefore, follow the instructions given below.
Depending on engine, the plug hole may
be small, the plug wrench may not fit in the
hexagonal part of the plug, and it may not
be possible to tightly fasten the spark plug.
Use a plug wrench that is suitable for the
vehicle (engine).
Install the spark plug with the
correct tightening torque.
First screw in the spark plug by hand. Once the gasket contacts the cylinder head,
then use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plug to the standard torque, shown in
the plug with fingertips and when the gasket contacts the cylinder head, tighten the
spark plug using a plug wrench, at a tightening angle (corresponding to the standard
tightening torque shown in the table on the right) mentioned below.
