According to Stephen M. Corey’s view:
“ The process by which practitioners attempt to study
their problems scientifically in order to guide, correct
and evaluate their decisions and actions in what number
of people have called action research.”
According to Good’s view:
“Action research is research used by teachers,
supervisors and administrators to improve the quality of
their decisions and actions.”
3. In the light of above
definitions it can be
concluded that action
research is the research
undertaken with a view to
find out a solution for the
various practical problems
of the educational
institutes. It is conducted
by those actually involved
in teaching process.
4. Need and importance of Action
research
Development of scientific outlook:
Action research develops scientific outlook in the
teachers, inspectors, heads, and managements of the
educational institute.
Solution of educational problems:
Some of the problems of educational institutes are related
curriculum, text-books, methods of teaching, system of
examination, discipline, co-curriculum activities,
backwardness and delinquency.
5. Improvement of educational system:
It helps the teachers, principals, and examiners to
evaluate their own methods and to remove their
defects.
Application of result:
Action research is useful from the point of view
of application of the results obtained. Result are
applies and implemented by the persons engaged
in the work of education.
