3. What are your responsibilities and job requirements for this position?
I work as a designer creating web layouts
and graphics as well as logos and print
materials. I also work as a front-end
developer, utilizing CSS, HTML, PHP, and
JavaScript to build websites.
4. Definitions
HTML: A set of tags or rules that are used to
display text , links, sound and images in web
pages.
6. Definitions
JavaScript: Runs in a web browser to
create dynamic content like message boxes
popping up or a live clock.
PHP: Helps make webpages more
interactive and personalized, by allowing
them to do more things. A website
programmed with PHP can have pages that
are password protected, whereas a website
with no programming can not do this.
Facebook profiles are made with PHP.
7. How'd you decide to get into this field and what steps did you
take to enter it?
I've had a passion for design and code from an
early age. I believe that packaging and branding are
among the most important assets any company can
have, so I've made it my mission to challenge
myself to continually create unique, professional,
impactful, functional, reliable, and dynamic websites
for clients from all fields and professions. I received
a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Davis, and in
addition I've worked as a designer and "code
monkey" [programmer] in various jobs, both
professional and academic.
8. Could you outline current issues and trends associated with this
industry?
Another trend that's gaining momentum is responsive design,
or CSS that responds to the size of a user's device to display
various content and styling. This negates the need for
separate stylesheets or even separate domains to display
content in an appropriate manner for a given device.
9. Could you outline current issues and trends associated with this
industry?
Social media is changing the way designers and developers
think about the web. Google is taking social media
considerations more seriously when it comes to ranking
websites in the major search engines, so suggesting a social
media presence to our clients and including social media icons
and RSS feeds on their websites is very important.
10. What advice would you give someone looking to enter this
industry/role?
I think the most important thing is just
gaining perspective and experience. Read
design and web blogs and magazines, find
relevant internships, and keep an open and
resourceful mind. Degrees can certainly be
important, but I think cultivating a true
passion for usable design is what makes the
difference for a successful web designer.
