Human trafficking has received increasing global attention over the past decade. Trafficking of
women and girls for forced sex work and, to a lesser extent, domestic servitude, were the sole focus
of advocacy and assistance. There is recognition in today's society that women, children, and men are
trafficked into many different forms of labour, and for sexual exploitation. In her article,
"Understanding and Addressing Violence Against Women", Cathy Zimmerman and Heidi Stockl
focus on the commonality of human trafficking and how evident it is in everyday life. They bring in
the health effects and possible solutions to human trafficking to help validate their opinion and
argument. In the solutions they offer, Zimmerman and Stockl shine a light on policy–makers
/decision–makers, health–care providers, and researchers/funders and what each of these groups of
people can do to help combat the issue of human trafficking. In a quote from their article, Stockl
and Zimmerman say: "Health care providers and organizations involved with trafficked persons
should increase their capacity to identify and refer people in trafficking situations and provide
sensitive and safe services to people post–trafficking". This quote shows how Zimmerman and
Stockl believe human trafficking should be combated by caring and talking to those affected by
the issue but how they also believe awareness should be made about human trafficking so as to
allow people surrounding the issue to identify and help victims of this issue. Zimmerman and

Insight on Human Trafficking Through hard work and sacrificed, people would always find
ways to resolve daily problems worldwide. Human trafficking is an unresolved problem that
affects friends and families each year. What makes this a serious crime is the fact that thousands

that is when an individual begins to work for another person who lend debt to the worker. It is
also known as debt slavery. Once an individual is bonded labor, some individuals cannot get out
of it. Bonded labor begins when an individual borrow money and agrees to work in exchange for
the money. The holder is also consider a master, who lend money to people. Often the master
keeps the individual with him to keep an eye on him, so he/she can work and repay the debt.
Also, it is common for the individuals family to work for the master because of the debt situation.
Even though some of those individuals did not borrow the money, they are still considered as
slaves. The reason of bonded labor for the individual holding the debt is to get a cheap labor. In
most situations, if the slave dies before the debt is repaid, the rest of the family will still have to
continue working for the master or debt holder until the debt is paid off. In some cases, those

In 1865 slavery was abolished in the United States. At least that it was most Americans believe but
that is not the case. In today's society we have an issue that is just a horrific as slavery back in the
day. It is the trafficking of women and children. The online Oxford Dictionary defines human
trafficking as, " the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or
commercial sexual exploitation." Therefore, this is modern day slavery. Women and children are
being tortured, abused, and scared physically and mentally for the rest of their lives. Also, once in

Even though sex–trafficking victims go through extensive therapy after being rescued it is still very
hard to return to everyday life knowing that for some period of time you were enslaved, tortured,
and abused. Sex–trafficking victims not only have emotional scars they have physical scars from
being tortured and abused by their "pimps" but they have health issues that they may have to deal
with for the rest of their lives. In the Sex/Slavery Trafficking article it asserts, " Once "broken in,"
sex trafficked victims can service up to 30 men a day, and are vulnerable to sexually transmitted
diseases, HIV infection and unwanted pregnancy." This just goes to show to what extent the
victims can be traumatized. A girl who is still a virgin is like a pot of gold to these men. They have
rape them and then the girls are scared for the rest of their lives knowing that some random man
who raped her took her virginity. Also, for the women that are infected with HIV that is just puts
an even bigger burden on their shoulders because everyday they will be reminded of what their
life once was because they will have this disease for the rest of their life. Many of us will never
