Musical Act
The musical act I am working with is ROSGUER, an artist duo formed by Laura and
Alex, two Cuban siblings who focus on creating a combination of Pop and Reggaeton with a
twist of adding their Latin roots into the mix. They have a similar Reggeaton sound to artists like
Camilo and Rauw Alejandro, and they are always getting inspired by traditional Latin rhythms
from fellow Cuban artists like Celia Cruz. Their music is vibrant, euphoric, and lively, and it will
give you a summer-like feeling.
Laura and Alex discovered their passion for music and entertainment at a young age, so
they started their creative endeavors in areas like acting and dancing for brands like
Nickelodeon, Disney, Telemundo, and Televisa. Later, when they began writing music together,
they automatically knew they had to be a duo, sharing their love for music and their culture. That
is how, ending 2019, ROSGUER was born. Having engaged in other areas and worked with
global brands, they have built a loyal social media following and a solid foundation to continue

I virtually met Laura and Alex through a mutual connection back in May. I had
previously seen them in some of their acting projects and listened to their first single. The day I
met them, I immediately saw their passion and drive to make it in the industry. They are very
dedicated, hard-working, and open to new ideas. Most importantly, I have witnessed they are an
absolute joy to work with, as they are both very easy-going and charismatic.
The Song
ROSGUER's first single, "Mala Maña," currently counts with over 17 thousand YouTube
views and 10 thousand Spotify streams (handles to song hyperlinked). This song would be
appropriate for placement in films. With its upbeat rhythm and danceable beat, it could fit
something along the lines of a car ride or party scene. The song's lyrics about relationships, toxic
partners, and bittersweet endings could also potentially work in other types of film scenes or
sung by a character. "Mala Maña" also counts with the possibility of creating a remix, a famous
practice within the Latin culture and reggaeton genre. In fact, remixes ultimately tend to be more
successful than the previously released song.
With their synchronization operations, Sony Music Publishing would help find fitting
licensing opportunities for Mala Maña with their extensive network of visual media companies
and music supervisors. On the other hand, the company could also facilitate the process of
conecting and contacting artists/songwriters from their catalog for the possibility of creating the

remix. Afterward, assist in dealing with all the ownership rights and royalty percentages due to
each party.
Publishing Company
Sony Music Publishing is the world's largest music publishing company, founded in 1995
and headquartered in New York with 38 offices across the globe (SMP Latin, n.d.). Their goal is
to put songwriters first, provide them with the best services, and be a leader in the industry with
their high-level operations and technology.
Sony/ATV was established through a joint venture with Michael Jackson, who had
acquired ATV Music. ATV Music owned the Northern Songs catalog, which had the rights to all
of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's songs while they were with The Beatles. Later, Sony got
Michael Jackson's 50% share of Sony/ATV, making it a wholly owned Sony company by 2016.
Two years later, in 2018, Sony bought the entirety of EMI Music Publishing, becoming the
world's leading music publisher. Over a year ago, in February 2021, they rebranded from
Sony/ATV to Sony Music Publishing, changing to the name we know today.
Sony Music Publishing could primarily provide ROSGUER with their synchronization
(including music supervision and licensing) and administration services (song registration and
royalty administration) for opportunities like the ones I mentioned earlier. According to the
company's website (n.d.), their synchronization department comprises around 125 music
professionals worldwide. "They do customized song searches tailored to meet any creative,
demographic or budgetary need." They also describe how they act as a liaison between their
songwriters and the creative community for collaboration on different projects. Sony Music
Publishing also provides services in digital music services, visual and media rights management,
and neighboring rights.

Within their Latin division (the market ROSGUER aims for), Sony Music Publishing
represents artists/songwriters similar to ROSGUER's audience and sound, including Daddy
Yankee, Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Manuel Turizo, Sebastian Yatra, Juan Camilo Vargas, and Rauw
Alejandro.
It is easy to say that Sony Music Publishing would be the best choice for ROSGUER
since it is cataloged as one of the best music publishers in the global music industry. However,
the company is a good fit because of its diverse culture and vast experience with other Latin acts.
Aside from being a good publisher, it is essential to match an artist with a company that will
believe in them and their talent and embraces their native culture and musical influences. In fact,
as stated in First Launch (2021), "Sony ATV prides itself on having several branches
internationally and supporting niche types of genres." Lead by Jorge Mejia since 2019, a
Colombian composer, Sony Music Publishing has established a well-known Latin section. The
company won several awards recognizing its inclusivity and outstanding job with Latin talent
and market. For instance, they got the SESAC Latin 2021 Publisher of the Year Award for the
sixth consecutive round and 17 ASCAP Latin Publisher of the Year awards in the past 19 years.
