On National Teacher Day, meet the 2024-25 Kenan Fellows
Q1
1. Title:
I have selected the title as the largest text on the
poster because this is generic of a horror film poster
and is commonly used on horror posters to ensure
the title of the film is clearly visible to the audience
and is the first thing they read. This initial reading of
the title means the name of the film is more likely to
stick in the viewers mind meaning the viewers will
remember the name of the film and have a longer
lasting memory of the title of the film, therefore
meaning the film will gain more attention as
audiences will have a memory of the name of the
film. Also this means the name of the film will gain an
identity that will stand out to the audience and
captures their attention when they hear or see it
again. Additionally, I have made the title largest body
of text to ensure its importance is visually pushed
across and will therefore subconsciously inform the
reader this is the most important text on the poster
and will mean they will view it first.
2. Slogan:
I have used a slogan because this is generic of a horror
film poster and is something expected of a poster. I
used ‘leave while you still can’ as my slogan because it
subtly links to the plot of the film and the title ‘The
Occupants’ and informs the audience the plot is based
around a house. Also, I used direct mode of address
through the word ‘you’ in the slogan to make the
message more direct to the audience and therefore
make the message more personal which will in turn
make it a more memorable message.
3. Date:
I have put a date on my
poster because this is
typical used on a horror
film poster as it informs
the audience of when the
film is being released and
is a vital piece of
information that audience
expects to find on a poster
so I have included a date
on my poster to ensure
the audience is given the
expected information
regarding the release date.
4. Colour Scheme:
I have chosen a black, white and red colour scheme
for the poster to match the colour scheme of the
film. Therefore, by using the same consistent
colours it allows the film to gain a brand image that
is consistent and therefore recognisable. Also the
use of red on poster is generic of a horror poster as
it represents blood and violence, a common theme
amongst horror films. Therefore, I used this colour
scheme to push across the idea of blood and
violence. Additionally, I have used black as my
background and white as my text to contrast each
other and allow the text stand out on the poster.
Also, the use of a black background makes the
antagonists outfit blend into his surrounding’s
which pushes across the idea the stalker blends in.
5. Credits:
I have added credits
because this is
traditionally found on a
poster and is used to gives
important information
regarding the cast and
production team of a film.
Therefore, I added credits
into my poster to offer this
information for audience
so they have the option to
read it should they want
to. Although, I made the
text small on the poster
because it is less valuable
than other text on the
poster and therefore by
making it smaller and will
don’t divert the viewers
attention from text such
as the title.
6. Production Companies:
A generic convention of a
horror film poster is to
have the production
companies logo’s on the
poster. I have put the two
production companies
logos on my poster to
allow the audience to
know who created the
film and also increase
awareness for the
companies so they gain
reputation.
7. Social Media:
I have included social
media and website links
because implementing
social media into poster
has become a recent
generic convention of
posters and also by
promoting the films social
media it allows more
attention to be put on the
film.
8. Menu
Menu:
I have implemented a menu into my website because this is generic of a
website as it allows the user to switch between pages easily and clearly.
Therefore, I added a menu into my website to make it using the website
clear and simple for the user.
12. Title:
I have added a title into my home page to make sure this is the
first body of text the viewer reads to ensure the title of the film
is being pushed upon the viewer and therefore they are
remembering it. This will allow the title of the film to be more
memorable for the audience.
13.
14. Social
Media
Social Media:
I have implemented links to various social media on my website because this is
generic of a many horror film websites. By adding links to other social media
platforms I am allowing the audience to view other forms of media regarding the film
and am therefore increasing the films exposure and increases the audience interest in
the film.
15.
16. Videos
I have added a section for videos because this is a typical convention of a horror film
poster as it allows the audience to view the trailer. By adding a page solely for videos I
am making it easier for the viewer to found the trailers for the film and am therefore
increasing exposure for the trailer and film.
17.
18.
19. Reviews
Reviews:
I have added reviews to my website because many horror film websites offer reviews
for the audience to read and this allow the audience to be convinced whether the film
is good or not. Therefore, by adding positive reviews to my website I am pushing
across a positive image of the film and also providing information the audience
expects on a website.
20.
21. Release date:
By adding in the release date I am using the conventions of
real media product. This is typically used by real media
product to inform the viewer when the film is being
released. I have added this feature into my homepage to
provide information about the release date because this is
something the viewer will expect due to it being commonly
used and therefore have incorporated this into my
homepage to meet my audiences needs.
22.
23. Trailer Disclaimer:
I have added in a disclaimer into the start of
my trailer to meet the generic conventions of
a horror film. By adding a disclaimer at the
start I am informing the viewer with important
information that they would expect before the
trailer has started, due to this being a generic
convention of horror film trailers.
24. Establishing Shot:
During my analysis of shot-
types I noticed a generic
convention of horror film
trailers was to have an
establishing shot of the location
at the start of the trailer. I
added an establishing shot at
the start of my trailer to inform
the audience of the main
setting in the trailer which is a
vital piece of information that
an experienced viewer would
expect at the start of a trailer.
Therefore, by having an
establishing shot in the trailer I
am meeting the generic
conventions of a horror trailer.
25. Film Company Advertisement:
I have met the generic
conventions of a horror trailer
by adding advertisement of the
film company that created it.
This is a generic convention of
real media product and is used
to both give the film company
credit and to advertise them.
Therefore, I have added in a
scene devoted to advertising the
film company because it is good
promotion for the film company
and increases their reputation if
the film is a success.
Additionally, I added it because I
felt this is a piece of information
the viewer would want to know
about.
26. Shot-Type Variety:
I have added a variety of shot types in
my trailer which meets the generic
conventions of a trailer. This meets the
generic conventions of a horror film
because it is commonly used to keep the
audiences attention as it is always
switching up their perspective of a scene
and therefore forcing to keep their
attention on the changing scenes.
Therefore, I have added this to my trailer
to keep the audience interested in my
trailer to ensure they don’t lose attention
and become disinterested in the film and
to ensure they pick up all the details in
the film.
27. Violence:
The horror genre is a considerably
violent genre and its therefore
important to showcase violence in
my horror trailer. By showcasing
violence I am meeting the generic
conventions of a horror trailer
because violence is added into
real media products trailers to
heighten adrenaline for the
viewer. I added in violence into
my trailer to create a similar
effect. The use of showcasing
violence makes my trailer/ film
more appealing to my target
audience. This is because I found
out in my research violence was
an important factor in what
makes a film and a trailer good.
Therefore, by adding violence into
my trailer I am meeting the
conventions of real media
product.
28. Mask:
I have depicted my antagonist in a mask
in every scene to establish the
antagonists image. This is used in several
film trailers such as ‘Scream’ and ‘The
Purge’. I included this into my trailer
because I wanted to create an iconic look
for the antagonist and to do this I kept his
outfit consistent. By doing this I am using
the conventions of a horror film trailer as
this is a commonly used method by real
media product.
29. Captions:
I have added in captions to push
across important information for
the audience to read. This is
commonly used in trailers
because it is dramatic and eye
catching because it switches the
viewers attention from motion
picture to a still. I have added
captions into my trailer to create
a similar effect and to keep the
viewers attention on the trailer.
Therefore, by adding captions I
am using the conventions of real
media product.
