I Feel As A Writer
I feel as though I have really grown as a writer because of this class. Before taking W131, I always
had a hard time trying to put my thoughts down on paper in a way that made sense. No matter how
many times I would rewrite my past papers I never seemed to be able to convey my thoughts and
beliefs accurately. This course really has taught me the importance of prewriting and revising.
Before, I would simple sit down and stare at a blank computer screen and just kind of start typing
and what I ended up with was extremely unorganized and hard to follow. Now that I have found a
way to prewrite that works for me, I feel as though my writing has really improved and become
more organized. One of my other "weaknesses", when it comes to writing, is my inability to keep
from getting to emotionally involved. If I feel passionately about something then you are going to
be able to tell, no matter which emotion it may be, frustration, anger, sadness, or joy. I know that
being passionate about something and that putting that passion into your work can be a very good
thing, but it can also be bad if you are writing a paper which requires you to be unbiased. For

frustrated and it was very difficult for me to control my emotions while writing it. I know that my

Stephen King is a very complex, experienced writer. He has elaborate stories that catch any type
of reader. In the book Stephen King On Writing he teaches us his experiences with writing and in
his own opinion how writing works, from the inside out. He shares that the editor or person
revising your page may not always be correct but to take the advice given and use it to your best in
your writing. Imagination is only as far as we let it go and that we can stretch our brains to reach
boundaries there were thought unapproachable. Although being descriptive is the ideal way to
write, being too descriptive can prevent you from actually getting your point across. Taking things

Although some may not have the mind that other do, imagination is a wild thing. King states
"sometimes the most basic skills can create things far beyond our expectations?" I take this as if that
basic skills building up can create or make an imagination grow to its full potential. The better you
get at something and the more it is practiced the better you become at it. With building stronger
skills comes a stronger imagination and put those skills to the test. Imagination allows us to create
things unimaginable. Description is a key component in writing an essay. In the book, King tells us
that creating a good writer out of a decent writer is all possible as long as the writer practices
fundamentals and a huge fundamental is being able to be descriptive. Staring an essay you must be
able to use words that can grab the readers attention and make them want to read more. Using strong
adjectives as in humungous, majestic, and extravagant are a big way to grab attention to the
audience. King teaches us practicing being descriptive will help us become an overall better

The Dreaded English Class
The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't
know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for
sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will
go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of
the way now, I look to fine–tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand
my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to
complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course
this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my
strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as
bad as it is said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being
a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that
from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to
reverse once you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a
math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will give me more time at work and

It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has
been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any case, I am happy that I am taking the class and
learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my
way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere.
On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the
class. As I discovered what the class would have been similar to, I let myself know I was going to
attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each
paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do.

to utilize. Things have ended up less difficult now since I don't need to experience the battle of how
things are done or on the chance that I don't understand how I should do what I am expected to do.

I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write
an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite
better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and

This allowed me to write more extensively on the topic I had chosen which in turn helped expand
the size of my research paper. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever
received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays
writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about
and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned
while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,
narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I
encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was
finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything
else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and
myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most
of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was
understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them.

The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning,
revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved
significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found

Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the
course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments
each exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers
without restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an
argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good
proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical
errors, but also for structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I
wrongly assume that the reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my
argument are actually not expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such
as sentence fragments or contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my
writing. Proofreading my own work has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing
process, and I continue to struggle with catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my

Describe Yourself As A Writer
When I was young, I always knew that college is important to the major that you choose. When I
see my aunt, I ask many questions about college and how it is like. I thought it would be
challenging and stressful. Then it was stressful because I want to improve my writing. When I see
myself as a writer, I think about the process, then I consider the improvements I need to make, and
lastly the strengths I have.
First, I think about the writing process. When the teacher or professor give me an essay, I start right
away. I start right away because I don't want my work to be late and I have other assignment to do

think about what I know and don't know, then put it onto paper. For the outline, I will do sentences

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for

Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to
prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing
especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits
in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfectessay, story, letter, and

Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on
more often. They always told me they are the essentials of everything thing. Even though I
disliked both at a young age as I grew older I preferred writing because I can always change the
way I write and write from my point of view, really be creative with it and prove my point.
Growing up I always loved writing short stories especially scary stories. I always was creative
with them and even made them realistic. To write an essay I usually have a couple of steps
writing an outline, and the thesis a draft and finally a final draft. The most difficult part about this

My Schedule During The Week Essay
Well, my schedule during the week is usually focused at school or at home. My weeks are never
smooth and I usually have a lot of homework because I am taking 18 units. I specifically handle all
my day to day things by the first study and do my homework before I go play a video game, sleep,
or eat. My days feel very structured and I usually tried to prepare and do all my homework at least 1
week ahead. That way I have a bit more time to study for a test. Most of the time, I get a homework

Those classes are usually the longest time–consuming in my week because they are about 3 hours
long. On the Saturday and Sunday, most of my time is to study for the exam or do homework
because my class gives me a huge amount of homework. I usually play games for about 30 mins
on randomly on my schedule or when I have a random free time. I sleep about 4 to 5 hours a day
in the week, but on the weekend, I sleep about 7 to 9 hours.
There are three examples from the text that I plan to use in my future or now to help me combat
my time management in the day to day task. First is to know how much time I am using for
studying and increasing that time if needed. Second is to use a system to plan and set priorities.
Lastly, it for me to stay motivated to follow my plan and avoid procrastination. The three strategies I
would use in the textbook would do the most important study first, use a calendar planner and daily
to–do list, and do the easier task first. I choose those three strategies for my time management
because time is the key to be successful. The most important to study first would help me seek a
question that I might not know; therefore, I could ask for assistance if I get stuck in my study. For

My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the
basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things

I need to learn to quit thinking as much on what I want to write about and how to write about a topic

have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge

Reflection About My Writing Course
At the end of this course, I feel that a lot has improved with my writing. When I first started this
course, I was struggling with a lot of writing mechanisms. One of the things was transition. I was just
writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing

English 101 Made Me a Better Writer
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their
goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was
astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also
learned a lot about writing that I hadn't learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I
had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my
writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on
essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better
writer that gave me the self–confidence and skills to take on the world on my own. During the

How To Write A Paper Airplane Essay

My heart sunk as I stared at the empty page crumple into nothingness. My hands intricately folded
the blank paper and formed an airplane. My hand drew back and sent the plane flying. I grabbed
another piece of paper. This time I'll be able to write something. But I was wrong. I couldn't think of
anything.
For ages, I walked around the room, trying to conjure a thought that I could build something off of.
Sadly, I found nothing.

thought really hard. Nothing.
I swear this will make me mad. I'll go crazy running around thinking about this darn Writer's Block.

Becoming A Better Writer : Writing
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important
that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn't know
how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking
English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a
satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before
entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I
obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify
the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It's a way to express my thoughts and allow
others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I
know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various
papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not
only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences. This
portfolio demonstrates the strongest and the weakest of my writing as a first year college student
and as a rising professional of psychology major. As psychology students, we think beyond the norm

My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to
advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has
created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why
English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in
America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take
advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English
IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome
obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there
are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was
something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to
organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class
was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write
about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had
many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it

How I Learned To Read And Write Essay
Ron Padgett, the author of Creative Reading, recalls how he learned to read and write as though
these things happened yesterday. Like Padgett, I tried recalling my reading and writing history.
When my parents read to me, they enjoyed reading Dr. Suess books, which became popular with
the publication of The Cat In The Hat. I was only interested in looking at books with color. When
the books were colorful they grabbed my attention quickly. I couldn't wait for my parents to come

I know that is definitely what got me to read more often. I started to read anything I could get my
hands on just to earn free pizza. All of the kids loved it! It was a great way to encourage kids to
read a little more. Although I may not remember much about learning to read, I do remember a
little bit more about how I learned to write. I remember that my teacher had a chalk holder that
held about four pieces of chalk. Each chalk was evenly spaced out so she could draw lines on the
board to look like writing paper. We learned how to make our letters on the board. We used the big
loose–leaf paper with the dotted lines in between the solid lines. She said we needed that kind of
paper to make sure we wrote our letters right. There would already be a letter in the top left corner
and I would just try my best to make my letters look like that one. We used the whole paper to do
just one letter over and over again. We wrote our letters so much and so often that, that was when
I first started to get a bump on my right middle finger. I used to hold the pencil so hard because I
wanted my letters to be as good and dark as the example letter. I remember the letter that I had the

  • 1. I Feel As A Writer I feel as though I have really grown as a writer because of this class. Before taking W131, I always had a hard time trying to put my thoughts down on paper in a way that made sense. No matter how many times I would rewrite my past papers I never seemed to be able to convey my thoughts and beliefs accurately. This course really has taught me the importance of prewriting and revising. Before, I would simple sit down and stare at a blank computer screen and just kind of start typing and what I ended up with was extremely unorganized and hard to follow.   • 3. The Dreaded English Class The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details or really expressing myself my work.   • 12. My Schedule During The Week Essay Well, my schedule during the week is usually focused at school or at home. My weeks are never smooth and I usually have a lot of homework because I am taking 18 units. I specifically handle all my day to day things by the first study and do my homework before I go play a video game, sleep, or eat. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn't learned before. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn't know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. There would already be a letter in the top left corner and I would just try my best to make my letters look like that one. We used the whole paper to do just one letter over and over again.
