Murder Mysteries Essay
How Far Are The Speckled Band And Lamb To The Slaughter Typical Of
Murder Mysteries? How Are The Stories The Same And How Are They
Different? Compare The Ways In Which The Stories Are Told
Murder mystery usually means where there is a murder involving money, love or revenge. The
victim's friend or a family member goes to a detective and tells them what they know about the
murder and the suspects and where they were, and what they were doing at that time.
There are a lot of famous detectives in books, TV and video for example; Sherlock Holmes, Jonathon
Creek, Hercule Poirot, Inspector
Morse, Danziel and Pascoe. They even appear in children's books and on
TV, for example, Scooby Doo.
The detective and usually an accomplice...show more content...
I also studied The Three Garridebs in which there is no murder, which is very weird even though it
is a murder mystery, there is a mystery but it is connected to money. There is no victim in it but the
villain is the main character and he is very cunning and Conan Doyle makes him come out as the
victim the one who needs help when he doesn't and the main setting is in Birmingham and Conan
Doyle doesn't describe it.
The similarities are that both the detectives are male and each had partners. The motive of the
murder in 'Lamb to the Slaughter' is anger and in 'The Speckled Band' it is money. The murder in
the 'Lamb to the
Slaughter' involves an unusual murder weapon, a frozen leg of lamb.
One of the detectives, Sherlock Holmes is a professional and doesn't trust anyone or anything and
investigates extremely thoroughly. The other detective doesn't do his job well; he drinks on the job,
and consumes the meal, which is the evidence. One of the villains is Mary
Maloney, who wasn't expecting to kill her husband, it was just unfortunate that he said something to
make her really mad. The other villain, Dr Grimesby Roylott wants all the money to himself so he
kills Julia and attempts to kill Helen.
These Stories are different because of the weapons; a leg of lamb and a snake and also the language
is very old and archaic in 'The Speckled
Band'. But in other respects they are similar to ones I have heard

Personal Narrative: The Justification Of Murder
Murder isn't justified if someone does it out of "selfish" emotions or needs, or out of hate.
However, murder can be justified if it's needed to survive. People's emotions can get out of control,
and sometimes that leads to committing a crime. In extreme cases, it could be murder. For example,
there have been a few cases where a man murders and rapes women as a result of them got rejected.
Some people say that they weren't thinking straight, or they might have been under influences like
alcohol. Even if they weren't thinking straight, they shouldn't be excused from murder(and rape).
Would a court just excuse a drunk driver for the reason of 'they were under influence'? No, of
course, they wouldn't due to the fact that there are laws against drunk driving just like we have
laws against murder. We shouldn't let murders that were caused by 'out of control' emotion be
justified just like we wouldn't do it to drunk drivers. Another example of this is serial killers H.H.
Holmes, who killed women out of curiosity. He also did it for...show more content...
When people think about murdering someone to survive they probably think about self–defense, and
they're correct. If someone attacks another person to the point where they think they might die, and
that murdering their it attacker is the only way to live then it's justified. I think it's justified
because humans flight or fight instincts kick in which might lead to murder. It's could be argued
that we as humans over think how big the threat is and that if they person might have been
innocent that the murder was not justified. I can't disagree with them but we as human also have
been killing since forever. It was always for the same thing, to survive. We killed to eat, we killed
to survive. That's just part of nature so when it comes down to it, murder is justified when we need
it to survive as long as it's the only option

Abortion is Murder Essay
Abortion has been one of the most popular and argumentative topics that has still yet to be settled.
Ultimately the question we can ask when trying to solve this issue is whether or not pregnant
women should have the right to kill an unborn baby. Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before
birth takes place and is a moral wrong. Can we as a society call ourselves human if we allow the
deaths of unborn babies to take place? Those who take the side of pro–choice or as also known as
pro–abortion often use statements concerning life, humanity, human rights and freedom to support
their claims. I believe abortion should be illegal because we as a society must protect the human
lives that are in danger whether or not they are in their first...show more content...
They continue by stating that abortion is simply a process that terminates pregnancy, not a life. This
is an obvious misconception since the term embryo refers to humans at particular states of
development. They are not blobs in a state of development, but rather humans growing to be
ready for life. This simple blob or embryo that people believe is okay to obliterate is actually
already a complex form of a human. Even before the trimester stage the baby will have all its
body parts needed for the rest of his or her life. Although countless scientific and medical
textbooks agree that human life begins at conception, people are still doubtful whether or not our
science is correct. But if we are truly uncertain when life starts, it still does not give us the right to
destroy a possible life. Why must we doubt thousands of intelligent scientists who agree that life
begins at conception because of religious beliefs? Can you truly say it is okay to kill a life because
people's religious beliefs? No matter how much better it sounds defining abortion as terminating
pregnancy, in the end a heartbeat is stopped, and a life is not able to continue.
Those who support abortion often overuse the claim that every individual has the right to choose and
it is unfair to restrict a women's choice on abortion. Although this claim at first thought may seem to
be able to uphold the abuse of abortion, we

Essay on Murder
Murder
Murder is the most vindictive crime society can commit. Society often wonders, what makes an
individual want to commit such a crime. As individuals in society, the belief of being born a
murderer is false. No one is born a murderer; society gives birth to that murderer. In Ted Bundy's
case the lack of parental guidance and constant rejection of women contributed to him evolving into
a vicious serial killer. Bundy was a man who let his fantasies run his life, he believed that life was a
game. All this contributed to making Bundy revengeful, bitter, and not quite mentally stable. The
type of murders this man committed was shockingly cruel and inhuman. In comparison to Clifford
Olson, he too, would rape his victims before and...show more content...
Ted Bundy felt nothing towards his stepfather, he was very bitter that he was forced to move across
the continent from his grandfather, the only man he looked up to. Although, a psychiatrist had
concluded after talking with Bundy year's later, that his grandfather was an abusive brute or even
worse. As a young boy, Bundy had started becoming obsessed with females and obscure sexuality,
"..as a boy, he was already roaming his neighborhood and picking through trash barrels in search of
pictures of naked women." This seems to be the result of very poor to no parental guidance, he stated
himself that he couldn't talk to his parents about many things. Ted Bundy had expressed feelings
during an interview that, parental involvement and security is very important in a young child's life
and that he never had that protection.
"..As the culture declines, as people are cut loose and don't know what to do, they are floating
around without the protection of the family...they become more vulnerable to people who want to
exploit them." Bundy was very shy as a youth and he was often bullied in junior high, as a result of
he was subjected to humiliation often. Even though he was subjected to this kind of behavior he
managed to maintain a high grade average throughout his secondary and post secondary education.
Many would say that Bundy was a very successful, pleasant student,

Abstract The following paper discusses the intricate differences between a mass murderer and a
serial killer. The discussion of the mass murderer and the serial killer is backed up with three
points in which significant differences are depicted, the intention, the experiences in the earlier
stages of life and mass media. The three points will follow the ideals behind the murders and where
that spark appear in a murderer's life. The mass murderer will be depicted in the media and shown as
being something influential, especially in the United States. The analysis of the three points will be
backed up with two case studies done by Elliot Leyton in his novel, Hunting Humans. The two cases
that will back up the thesis statement of intention,...show more content...
Henry Lee Lucas, who was said to have killed 300 hundred women, used the attention from mass
media in order to show how much he wanted death. Though lying about the number of murders, the
amount he would tell showed how he wanted to prove himself and how much of a danger he was to
others. His intention of murdering lies upon the need to spread his want for a way out, an exit from
the life of murdering which is through death. Within Leyton's novel, he displays a desperate attempt
to show people how much he wanted death and how screwed up his life is. His determination of
moving the media enough for death displays how he falls into the category of Leyton definition of
mass murderer. When Lucas would discuss his victims, the victims were close to an aspect that
Leyton talks about in his work. Leyton depicts that, "although the mass murderer usually does not
know his victim...their selection is not random or coincidental. He often perceives his victims as
having attributes which torment him" (Walsh, 7–2). Lucas went after the loved ones he found to be
similar to Leyton's quote. The disturbing aspect of going after family members, displays his
desperate need and attempt to want to end his life. The source of his torment was not enough and by
lying about his number of victims, they fall under Leyton's category of mass murderer. Serial killers

Female Incarceration For Murder Essay
In the early centuries, it was rare to hear about a woman who committed murder, or was incarcerated.
However, times have changed, and it has become somewhat of a norm in the twenty first century.
According to Kravitz (2010), he states that according to a study conducted by The Institute on
Women and Criminal Justice, the number of women in prisons in 2006 is 105,000.
Studies have shown that the majority of these women are incarcerated for non–violent crimes,
mostly related to drug related violations, however, a few of these women are incarcerated for murder.
In fact, some of these women, are doing life in prison for committing murder.
A familiar murder involving women, was in 1969, the Tate–LaBianca murders that were orchestrated

four others. The following night, Krenwinkle went on another killing spree, at the request of
Manson, where she stabbed Rosemary LaBianca and her husband to death. Krenwinkle showed no
remorse, and wrote "death to pigs" in their blood.
Once caught, Krenwinkle, and the other female followers, remained loyal to Manson throughout the
trial. Krenwinkle was sentenced to the death penalty, but was spared, due to the changes in the death
penalty. She was then sentenced to life in prison.
Another cold blooded killer, Griselda Blanco, dubbed the Black Widow, was another notorious
female who didn't mind getting her hands bloody. According to Tregunna (2014), Blanco had no
problem committing murder to gain power and wealth. She would kill anyone who crossed her with
no remorse. Blanco built an empire in the 1970 and 1980's, by smuggling cocaine into the United
States from Columbia. Blanco masterminded the cocaine trade, confronting the biggest of drug
lords, and had a reputation of being evil or just plain mad. Even though Blanco was a cold blooded
killer, she was very close to her sons, whom were also involved in her crime

The Causes and Prevention of Murder Essay
You or someone in your family may have children who perform actions that can be indications of
a potential serial killer. Most parents will ignore these signs but they are no joke. Does your child
like to harm small animals? Does your child live in an unstable family; is your child socially
awkward and isolated from everyone else? If you said yes to these questions, you may want to get
more involved in your child's life. According to many experts harming small animals, an unstable
family, isolation from others, and bad mental health are the four main causes of murder but those
are not the only causes. To the surprise of some people, violent videogames are not one of the
leading reasons of why someone decides to kill. From early childhood...show more content...
An more modern example is James Holmes, the man responsible for the Aurora shooting. Even
though he killed many he was different from Peter Kurten only in the way that he didn't kill over
time. James Holmes had schizophrenia, a mental disease many murderers seem to have. Revenge
and schizophrenia were a few examples of why a person decides to murder. Aggression during
their childhood can lead a kid to repeat what they see at home or school. If they live in an abusive
home the chances are higher of them committing violent crimes. The geography in where they
live can be a small cause but not so much because a lot of mass murderers come from middle class
families or higher. Usually people from lower income families commit smaller violent crimes
such as beating someone up due to territory and gangs. Even though there is many more cause of
murder there are also many ways to prevent it from happening to your children. Some indications
to look at as a parent and/or guardian are to see how your child acts around society. Being
antisocial is one of the major things one should pay close attention to. Another indication is the
way your child plays with small animals. If they like to hurt or even kill small animals that is a red
flag right away. An abusive home is usually the main cause of a child turning into a delinquent. At a
young age many children are physically and verbally abused

Serial Murder And Mass Murder
Before we can take on the definitions of serial murder and mass murder, we must first understand
what exactly constitutes murder. According to the United States Code–section 1111, murder is
defined as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought (4). With that said,
according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the term serial murder implies that there are at least
three different murder events at three different locations, with a "cooling off" period between each
event (Ramsland, 2009). Individuals who perpetrate the crime of serial murder are referred to as
serial killers. The term "serial killer" was coined in the mid–1970s by Robert Ressler, the former
director of the FBI 's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. He chose the name "serial killer"
because authorities in England called these types of murders "crimes in a series" (Freeman, 2007).
John Wayne Gacy, known as the "Killer Clown," who tortured, raped and murdered 33 men
between 1972 and 1978 is an example of a serial killer. On the other hand, mass murder is defined
as four or more murders occurring during a particular event with no cooling–off period between the
murders. A mass murder typically occurs in a single location in which a number of victims are
killed by an individual (2). An example of a mass murder would be the 1995 Oklahoma City
bombing perpetrated by Timothy McVeigh, in which 168 people were killed. While serial murder
has a definition that contains certain

Serial Murder Essay
Crime is one of the most important social issue societies currently face. It is a very important issue
that continues to erode our culture both economically and morally. Crime is globalized; criminals
often come from all segments of society with some believing that violence is an appropriate
response to dealing with conflict in their lives. Often the justice system is responsible for addressing
such issues. Due to the severity of violent crimes, such acts are generally treated more seriously by
courts and prosecuting attorneys than other classes of crime. One of the most important types of
crime is murder and more specifically serial murder. There have been cases where individuals have
committed horrendous acts as a form of gaining self–indulgence....show more content...
After being discharged he moved to West Allis, near Milwaukee, and lived with his grandmother
where he was able to obtain a job working at the Ambrosia chocolate factory. According to Willem
H. J. Martens, George B. Palermo in their article Loneliness and Associated Violent Antisocial
Behavior, Jeffry Dahmer had violent anti–social behavior. Dahmer's anti–social behavior roots back
to when he was a child due to his troubled home life. His parents had issues with their marriage, his
mother had a mental disorder and he would constantly move from one town to the next all resulting
in neglect towards Dahmer's needs. The combinations of these criteria in Dahmer's unstable
childhood lead him to begin developing impulsive and aggressive behavior and hence he suffered
severe social isolation (Martens, Palermo, 2005). At age 10, it was due to the feeling of social
isolation that Dahmer began to constantly drink heavily and had developed self–destructive
thoughts. As he got older his thoughts got more aggressive. He began to drink more and more in
order to drown the thoughts in his mind that were preventing him from creating social bonds with

There are several levels of murder which are labeled by degrees and the severity and punishment
varies with each degree. The first one is first degree murder which is considered the most serious.
First degree murders include elements of premeditation and deliberate planning of killing someone.
The second one is second degree murder which include elements of committing a harmful act
against another person without just cause. Second degree murder differs by not including
premeditation and deliberate planning. The final level of murder is third degree murder which is not
premeditated and includes elements of it taking place during the commission of a crime. According
to US Legal attempt to commit murder is defined as, "person should have deliberately, intentionally
or recklessly with extreme disregard for human life, attempted to kill someone. There should be some

Good morning/afternoon Year 10s. Murder. A single simple word which still provokes thousands
of emotions to swirl and huge debates to erupt. It is an ongoing serious issue and thus, there are a
countless number of articles written by the media on murder. In this generation of technology and
new innovations, we expect and assume that the news delivers 'fair, balanced and accurate
representations of people, issues and events. However, now I ask you, is this true? An example of
how murder is presented in the media can be seen in the articles 'Esplanade death: Family 'threaten

In the first article, the victim; 'Patty Slater' is said to be 'found unconscious shortly afterwards
with wounds to his chest, ankle and a deep cut to his head' which were 'too distressing for court'
giving the readers a horrifying image of the occurrence. The second article does not focus on any
of the injuries caused but magnifies on only the boy and his current situation, refusing to mention
any information on the violence. For example, Daily Telegraph writer reports on how the boy 'has
only one soccer ball and allowed into the yard for only 20mins a day'. This convinces us, the
audience that he is still a normal child and makes us pity the poor childhood he is experiencing. In
conversely, in the first wounds are described in detail but with very little description of the boy's
current struggles. Another example of how the media selects information is the use of one–sided
quotes and the exclusion of others. In article one, quotes only from the victim's family are
mentioned, especially the victim's cousin. Although in the second article, the victim's mother's
quotes are mentioned, the majority are from the boy's family friends. These two articles fail to
present the opposition side and as a result, the articles do not provide a fair report of the event.

A good law should be clear so both the judge and jury can apply it in a reasonable way, this makes
it easier for the jury to follow and provides a consistent outcome. It should be consistent, if not one
person could do exactly the same crime as another and they could have completely different
sentences. Consistency makes the law fair which is another important element of a good law. The
law should reflect the degree of fault and punish the defendant in a suitable way; this also
provides justice for the family within the law. It should also provide a defence this also makes the

In Omissions the duty in certain relationships is solely case law, this means you must wait for a
case to happen before you can know whether a duty exists. This means the law might be flexible
but it is not consistent. A possible reform would be to pass legislation setting out the situation where
a duty exists. However, it would be difficult to come up with a definitive list. The law commission
report in 1993 suggests only omissions would count in serious offences against a person.
For the mens rea there is a problem with the wording, "malice aforethought either expressed or
implied". Lord Gibbord 1988 said "malice aforethought" was misleading as you don't need to have
malice (i.e. spite) or aforethought (i.e. planned or premeditated). The Mens Rea for murder is
interpreted as an intention to kill or cause GBH. This is a common law definition and is subject to
change, making it flexible but also causing uncertainty.
There are problems with intention also because it has never properly been defined and cases like
Moloney and Hyam only set out guidelines and judges tend to alter between the two. This causes
confusion and uncertainty and leads to jury's verdicts being unfair and inconsistent. It also means
that the decision is opened up and leads to members of the jury being influenced by personal
prejudices.
The mens rea of implied malice means a defendant can be convicted

Murder, Manslaughter, And Justifiable Homicide
In the United States the degrees by which a person can be charged with killing another person vary;
the degrees of murder include first, second, and third degree murder, the definitions of which can
vary in legal terms from state to state. These charges are considered to be legally separate from
voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and justifiable homicide which each have their
own definitions (Cole, Smith, & DeJong, 2014). Each type of murder, manslaughter and homicide is
determined by intent and negligible behavior and each will be examined in this paper (Cole et al.,
2014).
Murder
First Degree Murder
Murder has not always been defined by degrees by which the act took place, before the separation
began, murder of any type was a capital offense punishable by death. The state of Pennsylvania in
1793 was the first state to legally distinguish different degrees of murder, possibly to reduce the
amount of murders that resulted in capital punishment (Levinson, 2002). In most states today, first
degree murder is commonly defined as the unlawful, willing, and premeditated murder of another
human being committed with malice aforethought, which is used to indicate a person intended to
kill another person (Berman, n.d.). All states approach murder charges with variations on the same
basic principle, intent.
Second Degree Murder
Like all degrees of murder, second degree murder varies from state to state however in general
terms it is referred to as the unlawful killing

that killed Mrs. Abbott was in a medicine bottle; however, the poison that killed Victor Savage was
from an ivory box. In contrast, the poison that murdered Victor Savage was presented in an ivory

In "The Dying Detective," it explained that Sherlock Holmes was literally dying from the prick of
poison. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was injected
into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who injected it
into the box in the first place. In "An Invitation to a Murder," the crossbones on the prescription
medication was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on the center of
the table were items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings killed Mr.
Abbott. Furthermore, both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the twelve
intelligent inspectors would prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication.
Therefore, Mr. Abbott's heart would stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand,
Sherlock Holmes planned out every detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that Dr.
Watson would be concerned about Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This created
a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the passages
had evidence that exemplified situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to grieve the death
of herself and her disabled husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to witness the
murder, became the murderers. In the other story,

structural traits, such as, the shape of orbital openings and their nasal index. The nasal index of an
the victim was calculated to be 0.85mm and the normal expectations of African American ethnicity
(>.53) point straight the conclusion that the victim is of African American heritage. The height of an
individual is most often determined by the examination of the long bones, such as the femur and
tibia. In order to determine the height of this victim, measurements of the Tibia and Humerus were
collected, each were then calculated to form an approximated height. For a female of african
american background, the tibia was 35 cm long and calculated a height around 5 feet. After
measuring the length of the recovered humerus (29 cm), using a specific formula, the approximate
height, for this skeleton, is about 4'8" to around 5'3".
Age, is not always the most accurate thing to determine in a forensic anthropology lab. Determining
a person's age is dependent on many bones. At birth, all humans have about 405 bones,

Macbeth Murder Essay
In Shakespeare's Macbeth, both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth contributed to the murder of King
Duncan and the murders that follow. Macbeth is known for his bravery and courage as a soldier on
the battlefield, and as a solider he is very familiar with killing people, which we later see throughout
the play. This shows thatMacbeth is solely responsible for the murders he commits throughout the
play. Although, Macbeth may seem totally responsible for these murders, other characters actions in
the play including Lady Macbeth, the witches, and himself led Macbeth to his downfall. The first
evidence that shows Macbeth is more culpable than Lady Macbeth for the murders that take place in
the play is shown by his encounter with the witches. On his...show more content...
They have made themselves, and that their fitness now does unmake you" (I, VII, Lines 51–53). She
has pressured Macbeth so much into murdering King Duncan that Macbeth realizes he has to carry
out the actions he said he would. If she had not pressured him so much he wouldn't have carried out
the murder of King Duncan.
Lastly, all influences aside, Macbeth is fully responsible for the murder of King Duncan. Without his
wife pressuring him to take the crown, and the witches telling Macbeth he would be king or the
Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth wouldn't have committed the murder. Although, as soon as the witches
told him about him becoming the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth immediately started planning way to
become king. Macbeth later goes onto write a letter to Lady Macbeth stating that, "Whiles I stood
rapt in the wonder of it came missives from the king, who all–hailed me Thane of Cawdor, by which
title, before, these weird sisters saluted me, and referred me to the coming on of time with Hail,
king shalt be!" (I, V, Lines 5–9). Although, Lady Macbeth convinced Macbeth to kill King Duncan
he was the person that stabbed him. Even though, Macbeth killed him throughout the rest of the play
we see Macbeth regret his decision, but that doesn't stop him from ordering murders. His ambitious
gets in his way he orders the death of Banquo, Fleance, Macduff and his family. While Macbeth
regrets his decision about killing King Duncan, this shows he doesn't have a problem with

Murder Essay

  • 1. Murder Mysteries Essay How Far Are The Speckled Band And Lamb To The Slaughter Typical Of Murder Mysteries? How Are The Stories The Same And How Are They Different? Compare The Ways In Which The Stories Are Told Murder mystery usually means where there is a murder involving money, love or revenge. The victim's friend or a family member goes to a detective and tells them what they know about the murder and the suspects and where they were, and what they were doing at that time. There are a lot of famous detectives in books, TV and video for example; Sherlock Holmes, Jonathon Creek, Hercule Poirot, Inspector Morse, Danziel and Pascoe. They even appear in children's books and on TV, for example, Scooby Doo. The detective and usually an accomplice...show more content... I also studied The Three Garridebs in which there is no murder, which is very weird even though it is a murder mystery, there is a mystery but it is connected to money. There is no victim in it but the villain is the main character and he is very cunning and Conan Doyle makes him come out as the victim the one who needs help when he doesn't and the main setting is in Birmingham and Conan Doyle doesn't describe it. The similarities are that both the detectives are male and each had partners. The motive of the murder in 'Lamb to the Slaughter' is anger and in 'The Speckled Band' it is money. The murder in the 'Lamb to the Slaughter' involves an unusual murder weapon, a frozen leg of lamb. One of the detectives, Sherlock Holmes is a professional and doesn't trust anyone or anything and investigates extremely thoroughly. The other detective doesn't do his job well; he drinks on the job, and consumes the meal, which is the evidence. One of the villains is Mary Maloney, who wasn't expecting to kill her husband, it was just unfortunate that he said something to make her really mad. The other villain, Dr Grimesby Roylott wants all the money to himself so he kills Julia and attempts to kill Helen. These Stories are different because of the weapons; a leg of lamb and a snake and also the language is very old and archaic in 'The Speckled Band'. But in other respects they are similar to ones I have heard Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Narrative: The Justification Of Murder Murder isn't justified if someone does it out of "selfish" emotions or needs, or out of hate. However, murder can be justified if it's needed to survive. People's emotions can get out of control, and sometimes that leads to committing a crime. In extreme cases, it could be murder. For example, there have been a few cases where a man murders and rapes women as a result of them got rejected. Some people say that they weren't thinking straight, or they might have been under influences like alcohol. Even if they weren't thinking straight, they shouldn't be excused from murder(and rape). Would a court just excuse a drunk driver for the reason of 'they were under influence'? No, of course, they wouldn't due to the fact that there are laws against drunk driving just like we have laws against murder. We shouldn't let murders that were caused by 'out of control' emotion be justified just like we wouldn't do it to drunk drivers. Another example of this is serial killers H.H. Holmes, who killed women out of curiosity. He also did it for...show more content... When people think about murdering someone to survive they probably think about self–defense, and they're correct. If someone attacks another person to the point where they think they might die, and that murdering their it attacker is the only way to live then it's justified. I think it's justified because humans flight or fight instincts kick in which might lead to murder. It's could be argued that we as humans over think how big the threat is and that if they person might have been innocent that the murder was not justified. I can't disagree with them but we as human also have been killing since forever. It was always for the same thing, to survive. We killed to eat, we killed to survive. That's just part of nature so when it comes down to it, murder is justified when we need it to survive as long as it's the only option Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Abortion is Murder Essay Abortion has been one of the most popular and argumentative topics that has still yet to be settled. Ultimately the question we can ask when trying to solve this issue is whether or not pregnant women should have the right to kill an unborn baby. Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before birth takes place and is a moral wrong. Can we as a society call ourselves human if we allow the deaths of unborn babies to take place? Those who take the side of pro–choice or as also known as pro–abortion often use statements concerning life, humanity, human rights and freedom to support their claims. I believe abortion should be illegal because we as a society must protect the human lives that are in danger whether or not they are in their first...show more content... They continue by stating that abortion is simply a process that terminates pregnancy, not a life. This is an obvious misconception since the term embryo refers to humans at particular states of development. They are not blobs in a state of development, but rather humans growing to be ready for life. This simple blob or embryo that people believe is okay to obliterate is actually already a complex form of a human. Even before the trimester stage the baby will have all its body parts needed for the rest of his or her life. Although countless scientific and medical textbooks agree that human life begins at conception, people are still doubtful whether or not our science is correct. But if we are truly uncertain when life starts, it still does not give us the right to destroy a possible life. Why must we doubt thousands of intelligent scientists who agree that life begins at conception because of religious beliefs? Can you truly say it is okay to kill a life because people's religious beliefs? No matter how much better it sounds defining abortion as terminating pregnancy, in the end a heartbeat is stopped, and a life is not able to continue. Those who support abortion often overuse the claim that every individual has the right to choose and it is unfair to restrict a women's choice on abortion. Although this claim at first thought may seem to be able to uphold the abuse of abortion, we Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on Murder Murder Murder is the most vindictive crime society can commit. Society often wonders, what makes an individual want to commit such a crime. As individuals in society, the belief of being born a murderer is false. No one is born a murderer; society gives birth to that murderer. In Ted Bundy's case the lack of parental guidance and constant rejection of women contributed to him evolving into a vicious serial killer. Bundy was a man who let his fantasies run his life, he believed that life was a game. All this contributed to making Bundy revengeful, bitter, and not quite mentally stable. The type of murders this man committed was shockingly cruel and inhuman. In comparison to Clifford Olson, he too, would rape his victims before and...show more content... Ted Bundy felt nothing towards his stepfather, he was very bitter that he was forced to move across the continent from his grandfather, the only man he looked up to. Although, a psychiatrist had concluded after talking with Bundy year's later, that his grandfather was an abusive brute or even worse. As a young boy, Bundy had started becoming obsessed with females and obscure sexuality, "..as a boy, he was already roaming his neighborhood and picking through trash barrels in search of pictures of naked women." This seems to be the result of very poor to no parental guidance, he stated himself that he couldn't talk to his parents about many things. Ted Bundy had expressed feelings during an interview that, parental involvement and security is very important in a young child's life and that he never had that protection. "..As the culture declines, as people are cut loose and don't know what to do, they are floating around without the protection of the family...they become more vulnerable to people who want to exploit them." Bundy was very shy as a youth and he was often bullied in junior high, as a result of he was subjected to humiliation often. Even though he was subjected to this kind of behavior he managed to maintain a high grade average throughout his secondary and post secondary education. Many would say that Bundy was a very successful, pleasant student, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Abstract The following paper discusses the intricate differences between a mass murderer and a serial killer. The discussion of the mass murderer and the serial killer is backed up with three points in which significant differences are depicted, the intention, the experiences in the earlier stages of life and mass media. The three points will follow the ideals behind the murders and where that spark appear in a murderer's life. The mass murderer will be depicted in the media and shown as being something influential, especially in the United States. The analysis of the three points will be backed up with two case studies done by Elliot Leyton in his novel, Hunting Humans. The two cases that will back up the thesis statement of intention,...show more content... Henry Lee Lucas, who was said to have killed 300 hundred women, used the attention from mass media in order to show how much he wanted death. Though lying about the number of murders, the amount he would tell showed how he wanted to prove himself and how much of a danger he was to others. His intention of murdering lies upon the need to spread his want for a way out, an exit from the life of murdering which is through death. Within Leyton's novel, he displays a desperate attempt to show people how much he wanted death and how screwed up his life is. His determination of moving the media enough for death displays how he falls into the category of Leyton definition of mass murderer. When Lucas would discuss his victims, the victims were close to an aspect that Leyton talks about in his work. Leyton depicts that, "although the mass murderer usually does not know his victim...their selection is not random or coincidental. He often perceives his victims as having attributes which torment him" (Walsh, 7–2). Lucas went after the loved ones he found to be similar to Leyton's quote. The disturbing aspect of going after family members, displays his desperate need and attempt to want to end his life. The source of his torment was not enough and by lying about his number of victims, they fall under Leyton's category of mass murderer. Serial killers are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Female Incarceration For Murder Essay In the early centuries, it was rare to hear about a woman who committed murder, or was incarcerated. However, times have changed, and it has become somewhat of a norm in the twenty first century. According to Kravitz (2010), he states that according to a study conducted by The Institute on Women and Criminal Justice, the number of women in prisons in 2006 is 105,000. Studies have shown that the majority of these women are incarcerated for non–violent crimes, mostly related to drug related violations, however, a few of these women are incarcerated for murder. In fact, some of these women, are doing life in prison for committing murder. A familiar murder involving women, was in 1969, the Tate–LaBianca murders that were orchestrated by a...show more content... The following night, Krenwinkle went on another killing spree, at the request of Manson, where she stabbed Rosemary LaBianca and her husband to death. Krenwinkle showed no remorse, and wrote "death to pigs" in their blood. Once caught, Krenwinkle, and the other female followers, remained loyal to Manson throughout the trial. Krenwinkle was sentenced to the death penalty, but was spared, due to the changes in the death penalty. She was then sentenced to life in prison. Another cold blooded killer, Griselda Blanco, dubbed the Black Widow, was another notorious female who didn't mind getting her hands bloody. According to Tregunna (2014), Blanco had no problem committing murder to gain power and wealth. She would kill anyone who crossed her with no remorse. Blanco built an empire in the 1970 and 1980's, by smuggling cocaine into the United States from Columbia. Blanco masterminded the cocaine trade, confronting the biggest of drug lords, and had a reputation of being evil or just plain mad. • 7. The Causes and Prevention of Murder Essay You or someone in your family may have children who perform actions that can be indications of a potential serial killer. Most parents will ignore these signs but they are no joke. Does your child like to harm small animals? Does your child live in an unstable family; is your child socially awkward and isolated from everyone else? If you said yes to these questions, you may want to get more involved in your child's life. According to many experts harming small animals, an unstable family, isolation from others, and bad mental health are the four main causes of murder but those are not the only causes. To the surprise of some people, violent videogames are not one of the leading reasons of why someone decides to kill. From early childhood...show more content... An more modern example is James Holmes, the man responsible for the Aurora shooting. Even though he killed many he was different from Peter Kurten only in the way that he didn't kill over time. James Holmes had schizophrenia, a mental disease many murderers seem to have. Revenge and schizophrenia were a few examples of why a person decides to murder. Aggression during their childhood can lead a kid to repeat what they see at home or school. If they live in an abusive home the chances are higher of them committing violent crimes. The geography in where they live can be a small cause but not so much because a lot of mass murderers come from middle class families or higher. Usually people from lower income families commit smaller violent crimes such as beating someone up due to territory and gangs. Even though there is many more cause of murder there are also many ways to prevent it from happening to your children. Some indications to look at as a parent and/or guardian are to see how your child acts around society. Being antisocial is one of the major things one should pay close attention to. Another indication is the way your child plays with small animals. If they like to hurt or even kill small animals that is a red flag right away. An abusive home is usually the main cause of a child turning into a delinquent. At a young age many children are physically and verbally abused Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Serial Murder And Mass Murder Before we can take on the definitions of serial murder and mass murder, we must first understand what exactly constitutes murder. According to the United States Code–section 1111, murder is defined as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought (4). With that said, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the term serial murder implies that there are at least three different murder events at three different locations, with a "cooling off" period between each event (Ramsland, 2009). Individuals who perpetrate the crime of serial murder are referred to as serial killers. The term "serial killer" was coined in the mid–1970s by Robert Ressler, the former director of the FBI 's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. He chose the name "serial killer" because authorities in England called these types of murders "crimes in a series" (Freeman, 2007). John Wayne Gacy, known as the "Killer Clown," who tortured, raped and murdered 33 men between 1972 and 1978 is an example of a serial killer. On the other hand, mass murder is defined as four or more murders occurring during a particular event with no cooling–off period between the murders. A mass murder typically occurs in a single location in which a number of victims are killed by an individual (2). An example of a mass murder would be the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing perpetrated by Timothy McVeigh, in which 168 people were killed. While serial murder has a definition that contains certain Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Crime is globalized; criminals often come from all segments of society with some believing that violence is an appropriate response to dealing with conflict in their lives. Often the justice system is responsible for addressing such issues. Due to the severity of violent crimes, such acts are generally treated more seriously by courts and prosecuting attorneys than other classes of crime. Dahmer's anti–social behavior roots back to when he was a child due to his troubled home life. His parents had issues with their marriage, his mother had a mental disorder and he would constantly move from one town to the next all resulting in neglect towards Dahmer's needs. The combinations of these criteria in Dahmer's unstable childhood lead him to begin developing impulsive and aggressive behavior and hence he suffered severe social isolation (Martens, Palermo, 2005). At age 10, it was due to the feeling of social isolation that Dahmer began to constantly drink heavily and had developed self–destructive thoughts. As he got older his thoughts got more aggressive. He began to drink more and more in order to drown the thoughts in his mind that were preventing him from creating social bonds with Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The first one is first degree murder which is considered the most serious. First degree murders include elements of premeditation and deliberate planning of killing someone. The second one is second degree murder which include elements of committing a harmful act against another person without just cause. Second degree murder differs by not including premeditation and deliberate planning. The final level of murder is third degree murder which is not premeditated and includes elements of it taking place during the commission of a crime. According to US Legal attempt to commit murder is defined as, "person should have deliberately, intentionally or recklessly with extreme disregard for human life, attempted to kill someone. • 12. Informative Essay On Murder Good morning/afternoon Year 10s. Murder. A single simple word which still provokes thousands of emotions to swirl and huge debates to erupt. It is an ongoing serious issue and thus, there are a countless number of articles written by the media on murder. In this generation of technology and new innovations, we expect and assume that the news delivers 'fair, balanced and accurate representations of people, issues and events. However, now I ask you, is this true? An example of how murder is presented in the media can be seen in the articles 'Esplanade death: Family 'threaten to kill' 11–year–old charged with murder' from WA news by Heather McNeill dated February 17, 2016, and 'Perth Boy 11, accused of Esplanade train station murder 'inconsolable'...show more content... In the first article, the victim; 'Patty Slater' is said to be 'found unconscious shortly afterwards with wounds to his chest, ankle and a deep cut to his head' which were 'too distressing for court' giving the readers a horrifying image of the occurrence. The second article does not focus on any of the injuries caused but magnifies on only the boy and his current situation, refusing to mention any information on the violence. For example, Daily Telegraph writer reports on how the boy 'has only one soccer ball and allowed into the yard for only 20mins a day'. This convinces us, the audience that he is still a normal child and makes us pity the poor childhood he is experiencing. In conversely, in the first wounds are described in detail but with very little description of the boy's current struggles. Another example of how the media selects information is the use of one–sided quotes and the exclusion of others. In article one, quotes only from the victim's family are mentioned, especially the victim's cousin. Although in the second article, the victim's mother's quotes are mentioned, the majority are from the boy's family friends. These two articles fail to present the opposition side and as a result, the articles do not provide a fair report of the event. Examples of these Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Evaluation of Murder Essays Evaluation of Murder A good law should be clear so both the judge and jury can apply it in a reasonable way, this makes it easier for the jury to follow and provides a consistent outcome. It should be consistent, if not one person could do exactly the same crime as another and they could have completely different sentences. Consistency makes the law fair which is another important element of a good law. The law should reflect the degree of fault and punish the defendant in a suitable way; this also provides justice for the family within the law. It should also provide a defence this also makes the law fair and also provides justice for the defendant as it will reflect the degree of fault. A good...show more content... In Omissions the duty in certain relationships is solely case law, this means you must wait for a case to happen before you can know whether a duty exists. This means the law might be flexible but it is not consistent. A possible reform would be to pass legislation setting out the situation where a duty exists. However, it would be difficult to come up with a definitive list. The law commission report in 1993 suggests only omissions would count in serious offences against a person. For the mens rea there is a problem with the wording, "malice aforethought either expressed or implied". Lord Gibbord 1988 said "malice aforethought" was misleading as you don't need to have malice (i.e. spite) or aforethought (i.e. planned or premeditated). The Mens Rea for murder is interpreted as an intention to kill or cause GBH. This is a common law definition and is subject to change, making it flexible but also causing uncertainty. There are problems with intention also because it has never properly been defined and cases like Moloney and Hyam only set out guidelines and judges tend to alter between the two. This causes confusion and uncertainty and leads to jury's verdicts being unfair and inconsistent. It also means that the decision is opened up and leads to members of the jury being influenced by personal prejudices. The mens rea of implied malice means a defendant can be convicted Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The strange thing about this murder is the fact that multiple people saw it happen, yet failed to call the police. The predetor was scared off multiple times by people's lights in their windows, and voices, but he came back each time to finish off the murder. In my opinion, the people who witnessed the murder were very selfish. If at least one of them would have called the police, she might have had a chance to survive. It is not my place to blame the witnesses though, because if it was me in their position I might have been t shocked to contact the police. if you think about Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Murder, Manslaughter, And Justifiable Homicide In the United States the degrees by which a person can be charged with killing another person vary; the degrees of murder include first, second, and third degree murder, the definitions of which can vary in legal terms from state to state. These charges are considered to be legally separate from voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and justifiable homicide which each have their own definitions (Cole, Smith, & DeJong, 2014). Each type of murder, manslaughter and homicide is determined by intent and negligible behavior and each will be examined in this paper (Cole et al., 2014). Murder First Degree Murder Murder has not always been defined by degrees by which the act took place, before the separation began, murder of any type was a capital offense punishable by death. The state of Pennsylvania in 1793 was the first state to legally distinguish different degrees of murder, possibly to reduce the amount of murders that resulted in capital punishment (Levinson, 2002). In most states today, first degree murder is commonly defined as the unlawful, willing, and premeditated murder of another human being committed with malice aforethought, which is used to indicate a person intended to kill another person (Berman, n.d.). All states approach murder charges with variations on the same basic principle, intent. Second Degree Murder Like all degrees of murder, second degree murder varies from state to state however in general terms it is referred to as the unlawful killing Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In "The Dying Detective," it explained that Sherlock Holmes was literally dying from the prick of poison. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was injected into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who injected it into the box in the first place. In "An Invitation to a Murder," the crossbones on the prescription medication was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on the center of the table were items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings killed Mr. Abbott. Furthermore, both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the twelve intelligent inspectors would prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication. Therefore, Mr. Abbott's heart would stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand, Sherlock Holmes planned out every detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that Dr. Watson would be concerned about Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This created a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the passages had evidence that exemplified situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to grieve the death of herself and her disabled husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to witness the murder, became the murderers. In the other story, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The body was stumbled across by a wildlife refuge worker on September 6, 2010. It was covered in dirt and leaves when found on site. The victim was covered with 3rd degree burns leaving very little room to determine the ethnicity. The hands and feet were shown to be missing and the tibia, pelvis, skull, humerus, and ribs were retrieved. The hands and feet were never found but a knife was left with no blood or fingerprints left on the knife. This was believed to be a murder case considering the hands and feet were chopped off in an unnatural way. The measurements of the found Tibia and Humerus, perfectly matched the estimated traits. The ethnicity of this individual was determined, very thoroughly, through a series of observations and tests regarding the skull, and nasal cavity. The patient is concluded to be of African American ancestry based on the percentage of results that match up with certain African American ethnicity structural traits, such as, the shape of orbital openings and their nasal index. The nasal index of an the victim was calculated to be 0.85mm and the normal expectations of African American ethnicity (>.53) point straight the conclusion that the victim is of African American heritage. The height of an individual is most often determined by the examination of the long bones, such as the femur and tibia. In order to determine the height of this victim, measurements of the Tibia and Humerus were collected, each were then calculated to form an approximated height. For a female of african american background, the tibia was 35 cm long and calculated a height around 5 feet. After measuring the length of the recovered humerus (29 cm), using a specific formula, the approximate height, for this skeleton, is about 4'8" to around 5'3". Macbeth is known for his bravery and courage as a soldier on the battlefield, and as a solider he is very familiar with killing people, which we later see throughout the play. This shows thatMacbeth is solely responsible for the murders he commits throughout the play. Although, Macbeth may seem totally responsible for these murders, other characters actions in the play including Lady Macbeth, the witches, and himself led Macbeth to his downfall. Without his wife pressuring him to take the crown, and the witches telling Macbeth he would be king or the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth wouldn't have committed the murder. Although, as soon as the witches told him about him becoming the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth immediately started planning way to become king.
