Compare & Contrast 3 Essays
The three essays, "Thank God For The Atom Bomb" by Paul Fussel,
"Democracy" by Carl Becker, and "Chief Seattle: Letter to President Pierce,
1855" are three different rhetorical modes of writing that exposits theoretical, personal
reasoning on the realities of certain controversial historical topics. The main focus of the essays are
in proving a steadfast view of an ambiguous subject through sarcastic criticism of opposing ideas and
by applying clever use of irony; the authors' sentiments vary from imperialistic to anti–imperialistic,
and from attesting to detesting a past event."Thank God For The Atom Bomb" is a
straightforward imperialistic literature which analyzes cause and effect to justify the...show more

The cause and effect of the A–bomb is therefore justified; the cause was to cease further bloodshed

anti–imperialistic as some view it imperialistic for it attacks Japanese imperialism and the Japanese
psychology of the pre–war era which believed themselves to possess "invincible

diabolic armies of destruction across the globe. It must not be forgotten that the episode started by

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words

the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and
suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be
trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator,
mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in
other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to provide a comparative analysis and evaluation of the two retail
conglomerates: Amazon and Walmart. Their operational strategy relative to customer value
proposition was thoroughly examined to assist in measuring market and operational performance
and overall financial health of the companies. Subsequently, the following findings on the two
companies will also be presented: a) value proposition b) alignment of operational strategy to value
proposition, c) matching products, markets and strategies, d). Procurement methods, e). Risk
management, f). Information systems and management, g). Operational excellence, h). Operational
flexibility, i). Sustainability and j). Resiliency. The cumulative results of the analysis reveals that
Amazon is the clear winner over a 10–year financial investment horizon. They manage their
operation relative to their customer value proposition effectively which in turn has had a positive
effect on their overall financial health. As of this year, their stocks and market capitalization is worth
more than Walmart, Costco, Target, Macy's and Kohl's combined (Bukhari, 2017). It is not the

Community College vs. Universities
Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the
hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College
or a University. Although Universities and CommunityCollege serve the same purpose, each has its
differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and
student life. Community College are the most common type of two–year College that prepares you

Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a
community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the
same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice,
students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community
college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be
able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer
to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can
pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from
teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask
questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community
colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from
high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a
University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the
majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees

Frankenstein And Never Let Me Go Comparison Essay
Compare the ways in which the writers of your two chosen texts portray the impact of science on
social order.
The numerous aspects of science presented in both, Frankenstein and Never Let Me Go can be said
to have immense impact in relation to the societies presented in the two novels, as well as the way
in which they influence the concept of social order within those societies. To an extent, the degree of
science's impact on society can be said to be more prominent and influential in one novel, more than

to interpret Ishiguro's ideologies behind social order in Never Let Me Go can be through the lack
of surprise at the ways in which Kathy's society is run. The fact that science was powerful enough
to normalise the concept of organ donation in a manner which is disadvantageous for the donors in
regards to a chance at a normal life comes alongside the fact that there is very little desire to rebel
on behalf of the donors. Through this, it can be deduced that science and its influence can

Comparison Essay: College Writing Vs. High School
After reading those two articles, I think college writing is totally different from high school
writing; we need to put much more effort on developing our research, thinking and writing skills.
In college writing, we will use tools like academic writing situation to help us in creating papers.
And we must be responsible for all assignments and works in order to be successful. It is not
difficult to write, but writing with professional vocabulary and correct format with our own fresh
thoughts is challenging. As Strong said, "Writing is thinking.", there is no perfect first draft, as long
as we rewrite with consistent thinking, we will be a qualified college writer.

Compare and Contrast Essay of Two Neighborhood

Two Neighborhoods
The convenience of living in an urban or suburban neighborhood can be appealing to many people.
Choosing between areas can sometimes be overwhelming for some individual. People are not only
concerned about the safety of a community, but they are also concerned about the environment.
Although some neighborhoods might look attractive, people should consider the expense that comes
with it, and how commuting will affect them in the long run. Nevertheless, both neighborhoods have
their specific advantages and disadvantages. When choosing between an urban or suburban
neighborhood, it is important for people to research the community, the expense, and convenience
...show more content...
Another key point is commuting. People who live in the urban community have better access to
public transportation. Citizens can easily get around by walking, taking a bus, and riding the train at
a lower cost. In contrast, owning a home in suburb can be costly for many people. Not only do
people have to keep up with their mortgages, but they sometimes have to pay a yard maintenance fee
and their Home Owners Association (HOA) dues for the up–keeping of the neighborhood which can
be very costly. Besides the home cost, people who live in suburban neighborhoods do have the
convenience of traveling in the comfort of their own vehicle, and they do not deal with the concerns
of public transportation. However, they still have to deal with the cost for long commuting and the
wear and tear of the vehicle.
Living in the inner–city and suburban neighborhood can be challenging and beneficial for some
individuals, especially for career opportunity. Many people who live in the urban communities have
a better advantage in finding a job of their choice. Most corporations are located in the inner–city
which makes it easier for people to find a job. Despite the job opportunities in the inner–city, many
of these corporations do not provide parking for their employee which makes it difficult for many
individuals. On the other hand, employment in the suburb is very limited and many of the
professional jobs are

A Comparison of Three Newspapers' Articles on the Same Topic

in the amount of factual information given, the interviews used, the language employed and finally,
the layout and presentation of the various articles.

The tone is much more factual and is not as colloquial as popular press. The sentences are usually
quite complex; hence the paragraphs are quite lengthy. The graphics are usually informative rather
than biased or seeking attention. Moreover, in The Times, the sound effects would usually be limited
to puns. Foreign publications, such as Newsweek, generally contain features of both popular press
and quality press.
The Mirror contained quite a lot of factual information. The article informed the readership that "20
skiers" "plunged 300ft to their deaths" after a low–flying American "warplane" "sliced through the
wire of their cable car." Similarly, The Times and Newsweek also provided this information. The
article in The Times stated "Twenty people fell three hundred feet to their death" when an
"American military aircraft" "sliced the steel wire supporting a cable car carrying skiers." Like the
other two articles, the article in Newsweek established that a "U.S. fighter jet" had "clipped two
cable cars" and sent a "gondola full of skiers tumbling to the ground." All three articles also
confirmed that there were "twenty" victims. The Mirror and Newsweek gave more detail about this
aspect. The Mirror stated that the victims were "nine women, 10 men and one child." Newsweek
also stated that the "tourists" originated from "seven European countries."

A Comparative Analysis of Eating Out vs. Eating at Home
Eating is essential part of our lives, and it is a necessity for human survival as it is for all other
living species. While all living organisms need to eat to survive human race has more ways on how
to satisfy their eating necessity. Two ways that humans can satisfy their hunger is by making a
choice whether they prefer to eat out or stay at home and cook. Eating out has become popular trend
in today's society, especially among younger generations. With wide variety in deliciousfood
offered, and chance to enjoy it with your loved ones, eating out has become primary choice for
many busy adults. Eating at home gives us an opportunity to enjoy diverse food choices as well,
and it can be also enjoyed with family and friends alike. Cooking is one of the oldest crafts that
has been passed down from our older generations, and is still popular among many that enjoy
preparing food at home. While eating out and eating at home are similar in variety of delicious
foods offered, and chance to share it with our families and friends, nutritional health value choices
are different for each of them. Eating out offers less control on nutritionally healthy food choices,
and eating at home gives you more control on what kind of nutritional foods are we consuming.

Ann Arbor's smaller colleges, the store held its own and became a popular neighborhood hangout.
Within the next several years, the Borders brothers opened two more bookstores in Michigan, one in

Art Comparison
Art is an incredible medium when used to its fullest potential. What I mean by that is; it has the
capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the emotions. Paintings are
particulary effective in doing this through the use of color tones and 'temperature'. For example; El
Greco used a lot of blue and green throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject
matter comes off as ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O'Keeffe's
desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a 'warm' and appealing landscape.
Of course, these are not the only artist to make master works of tonality. Here are five artists (which
you may recognize) who have harnesed the power...show more content...
Both Velazquez's 'Old Woman' and Rembrandt's 'Prodigal Son' are bathed in (or painted in) golden
yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors, each pigment is mixed with a
little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to the figure. This helps them to contrast to the
very dark background. I like how Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost
indiscernable. By being part of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they
are not the most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however,
chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the back as a dark
void of mystery.
Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His purposeful usage
of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion (particularly in his portraits). His
expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin
has a bluish hue. These elements describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the
troubles around him are seeping into his skin (like the blue).
That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art–lover. It is a wonderful story

Short Story And Song Comparison Essay
The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest
Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of them deal with hope and strong urge of
motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will
convey the main settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces.
One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the
story, and according to Santiago's relationship with nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are
happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal
palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song
"Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in which it sends a theme that could be applied to
all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either
making it too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life".
The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and
humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing in the sea. Purposely,...show more content...

demonstrates a few examples of obstacles from life, that are relatable "Doesn't mean I'm over

from. This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating
him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Basically, if the obstacles put you down, you've
basically made no growth or progress. But if it doesn't kill you, you've grown

The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce
purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to
drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich
was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a
young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what
he had seen overseas.
Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the
war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to
be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior,
illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. But he was
such a loner now that I didn't know how to take it."
When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright
colored clothes he used to dawn–– instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The

The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it
and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see
what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will
be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics
were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song,
Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The
singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end,
you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song,
the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move
along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The
singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song.
These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and
being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers
also used symbols and juxtaposition to

Comparing Cultures
When comparing cultures, one must form a definition of what culture is. Culture can be easily
defined as the social behavior and normality's found in human societies. It can also be easily made
up of a composed arrangement of educated conduct and thought designs. Culture is a sorted out
framework since it includes many parts. Throughout the world, there are many cultures that are
both very different and also very similar. "Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how
we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at table,
how we greet visitors, how we behave and one million other things." (Cristina De Rossi.)...show

In people, culture must be learned through experiences. For most countries, learned behaviors are

The two countries that we are going to compare are India and China. The greatest contrast among
Indian China is the level of development in both nations. Advancement can be seeing more in India

Compare & Contrast 3 Essays The three essays, "Thank God For The Atom Bomb" by Paul Fussel, "Democracy" by Carl Becker, and "Chief Seattle: Letter to President Pierce, 1855" are three different rhetorical modes of writing that exposits theoretical, personal reasoning on the realities of certain controversial historical topics. The main focus of the essays are in proving a steadfast view of an ambiguous subject through sarcastic criticism of opposing ideas and by applying clever use of irony; the authors' sentiments vary from imperialistic to anti–imperialistic, and from attesting to detesting a past event."Thank God For The Atom Bomb" is a straightforward imperialistic literature which analyzes cause and effect to justify the...show more content... The cause and effect of the A–bomb is therefore justified; the cause was to cease further bloodshed and the effect was the carnage ended. The positive effects does not only pertain to the Americans, but for the Japanese also, for the postwar Japan, an economic powerhouse "hustling"(p460) successfully in today's markets is the pay–off for it being "destroyed and then being humiliated, tamed, and constitutionalized by the West."(p460)– obviously an imperialistic point of view."Thank God For The Atom Bomb" ironically can be viewed by some as anti–imperialistic as some view it imperialistic for it attacks Japanese imperialism and the Japanese psychology of the pre–war era which believed themselves to possess "invincible superiority"(p459) thus having jurisdiction to treat another people they see fit, and that includes "gleeful use of bayonets on civilians, on nurses and the wounded, in Hong Kong and Singapore."(p460). And it was Japan who decided to conquer the world and to deploy their diabolic armies of destruction across the globe. It must not be forgotten that the episode started by the incident at Pearl Harbor and ended by the incident at Nagasaki. The author's voice throughout the whole essay is filled with sarcastic contempt for the people who question the moral of the bomb's usage. He repeatedly attacks those critics Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories–– Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct. In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words ...show more content... In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be trusted by Billy. In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because Get more content on HelpWriting.net

One of the hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College or a University. Although Universities and CommunityCollege serve the same purpose, each has its differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and student life. Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree. Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees included. • 8. Frankenstein And Never Let Me Go Comparison Essay Compare the ways in which the writers of your two chosen texts portray the impact of science on social order. The numerous aspects of science presented in both, Frankenstein and Never Let Me Go can be said to have immense impact in relation to the societies presented in the two novels, as well as the way in which they influence the concept of social order within those societies. To an extent, the degree of science's impact on society can be said to be more prominent and influential in one novel, more than the other as their chain of events despite all being drastically affected by the ideas brought about through science – such as the concept of artificially made life, can be said to have more impact of the concept of social order within...show more content... The science which leads to the initialisation of the idea of creating organ donors which will contribute to the later life of those who stand higher in the society's capitalistic structure can be said to have impacted the overall concept of a social order through the obstruction of proceeding in what is morally right as a result of deeming cloning perfectly acceptable. However, another way to interpret Ishiguro's ideologies behind social order in Never Let Me Go can be through the lack of surprise at the ways in which Kathy's society is run. The fact that science was powerful enough to normalise the concept of organ donation in a manner which is disadvantageous for the donors in regards to a chance at a normal life comes alongside the fact that there is very little desire to rebel on behalf of the donors. Through this, it can be deduced that science and its influence can completely overpower the idea of self righteousness and own will, enforcing conformity to the values put upon by a corrupt society, ultimately ensuing social Get more content on HelpWriting.net

High School After reading those two articles, I think college writing is totally different from high school writing; we need to put much more effort on developing our research, thinking and writing skills. In college writing, we will use tools like academic writing situation to help us in creating papers. And we must be responsible for all assignments and works in order to be successful. It is not difficult to write, but writing with professional vocabulary and correct format with our own fresh thoughts is challenging. As Strong said, "Writing is thinking.", there is no perfect first draft, as long as we rewrite with consistent thinking, we will be a qualified college writer. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Compare and Contrast Essay of Two Neighborhood Patricia Brown Ellen Beckford English 1101 13 February 2013 Two Neighborhoods The convenience of living in an urban or suburban neighborhood can be appealing to many people. Choosing between areas can sometimes be overwhelming for some individual. People are not only concerned about the safety of a community, but they are also concerned about the environment. Although some neighborhoods might look attractive, people should consider the expense that comes with it, and how commuting will affect them in the long run. Nevertheless, both neighborhoods have their specific advantages and disadvantages. When choosing between an urban or suburban neighborhood, it is important for people to research the community, the expense, and convenience ...show more content... Another key point is commuting. People who live in the urban community have better access to public transportation. Citizens can easily get around by walking, taking a bus, and riding the train at a lower cost. In contrast, owning a home in suburb can be costly for many people. Not only do people have to keep up with their mortgages, but they sometimes have to pay a yard maintenance fee and their Home Owners Association (HOA) dues for the up–keeping of the neighborhood which can be very costly. Besides the home cost, people who live in suburban neighborhoods do have the convenience of traveling in the comfort of their own vehicle, and they do not deal with the concerns of public transportation. However, they still have to deal with the cost for long commuting and the wear and tear of the vehicle. Living in the inner–city and suburban neighborhood can be challenging and beneficial for some individuals, especially for career opportunity. Many people who live in the urban communities have a better advantage in finding a job of their choice. Most corporations are located in the inner–city which makes it easier for people to find a job. Despite the job opportunities in the inner–city, many of these corporations do not provide parking for their employee which makes it difficult for many individuals. On the other hand, employment in the suburb is very limited and many of the professional jobs are Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Using these three reports, I shall compare the variations and similarities in the amount of factual information given, the interviews used, the language employed and finally, the layout and presentation of the various articles. The sentences are usually quite complex; hence the paragraphs are quite lengthy. The graphics are usually informative rather than biased or seeking attention. Moreover, in The Times, the sound effects would usually be limited to puns. Foreign publications, such as Newsweek, generally contain features of both popular press and quality press. The Mirror contained quite a lot of factual information. The article informed the readership that "20 skiers" "plunged 300ft to their deaths" after a low–flying American "warplane" "sliced through the wire of their cable car." Similarly, The Times and Newsweek also provided this information. The article in The Times stated "Twenty people fell three hundred feet to their death" when an "American military aircraft" "sliced the steel wire supporting a cable car carrying skiers." Like the other two articles, the article in Newsweek established that a "U.S. fighter jet" had "clipped two cable cars" and sent a "gondola full of skiers tumbling to the ground." All three articles also confirmed that there were "twenty" victims. The Mirror and Newsweek gave more detail about this aspect. The Mirror stated that the victims were "nine women, 10 men and one child." Newsweek also stated that the "tourists" originated from "seven European countries." Borders Group, Inc. came into existence following the spinoff from its parent Kmart Corporation in May 1995. But the Borders name dates back over two decades. Borders began as a single used bookstore in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The shop was founded by Louis and Tom Borders in 1971. Serving the bustling academic community of the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor's smaller colleges, the store held its own and became a popular neighborhood hangout. Within the next several years, the Borders brothers opened two more bookstores in Michigan, one in Atlanta, and another in Indianapolis. In addition, Louis and Tom started a wholesaling business they called BIS (Book Inventory Systems), which experienced healthy growth. When looking at the different management approaches, there is an approach called "working backwards" that is widely used at Amazon. The approach allows them to work backwards from the customer, rather than starting with an idea for a product and trying to bolt customers onto it. While working backwards can be applied to any specific product decision, using this approach is especially important Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Art Comparison Art is an incredible medium when used to its fullest potential. What I mean by that is; it has the capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the emotions. Paintings are particulary effective in doing this through the use of color tones and 'temperature'. For example; El Greco used a lot of blue and green throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject matter comes off as ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O'Keeffe's desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a 'warm' and appealing landscape. Of course, these are not the only artist to make master works of tonality. Here are five artists (which you may recognize) who have harnesed the power...show more content... Both Velazquez's 'Old Woman' and Rembrandt's 'Prodigal Son' are bathed in (or painted in) golden yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors, each pigment is mixed with a little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to the figure. This helps them to contrast to the very dark background. I like how Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost indiscernable. By being part of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they are not the most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however, chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the back as a dark void of mystery. Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His purposeful usage of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion (particularly in his portraits). His expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin has a bluish hue. These elements describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the troubles around him are seeping into his skin (like the blue). That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art–lover. It is a wonderful story Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Short Story And Song Comparison Essay The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of them deal with hope and strong urge of motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will convey the main settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces. One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the story, and according to Santiago's relationship with nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song "Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in which it sends a theme that could be applied to all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either making it too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life". The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing in the sea. Purposely,...show more content... This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Efrain Rincon Jr Professor Yuhas English – 6 6 May, 2013 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' and 'The Red Convertible' 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' by Ambrose Bierce and 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Erdrich both recount sorrowful tales of men during times of war. The stories differ in that 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is a story written in reverse, where the readers do not truly know the plot until the end– whereas 'The Red Convertible' is just a man recounting the story of his long lost brother. However despite their differences, both of the stories continue to build up hope in the reader only to find nothing but a sorrowful story at the end. 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' by Ambrose Bierce was a short story written...show more content... The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what he had seen overseas. Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior, illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright colored clothes he used to dawn–– instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The quote from the middle of the story, speaking about the television, and how Henry just sat "in front of it, watching it, and that was the only time he Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song, the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song. These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers also used symbols and juxtaposition to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
