2. For the most part of my battle.net career I have played as a random player. Which, give me a chance to really get to know all 3 races. Now it is probably no surprise to anyone when I say that all 3 races are quite different from each other. Their units are different, their overall tactics are different, and in a nut shell they all play very differently. However, after spending quite a bit of time playing each of the races and learning their build orders I had an “ah-ha” moment. What I realized is that although there are literally dozens of different strategies or build orders for each race, they all pretty much begin the same way. That is to say most strategies all have a standard opening build, especially for the Protoss. Click Here for More Free Starcraft 2 Guides
3. Unlike Terran or the Zerg where they are able to skip their Tier 1.5 units, Protoss Cannot. Let me explain… Let’s say you’re a Zerg player and you’re going for a fast mutalisk build. So you build your Spawning Pool, and go straight into Lair and a Spire by skipping Roach Warren and Baneling Nest. Protoss on the other hand cannot do that. They can’t skip their Tier 1.5 units because all their Tier 2 and 3 structures require the Cybernetics Core, which just so happen to be the build that allows them to train their Tier 1.5 units. 5. This means that unless you’re planning to go for a pure Zealot army, you’ll need to drop down a Cybernetics Core sooner or later even though you’re not planning to use Stalkers or Sentries at all. Now this isn’t a necessary a bad it thing. It just means that every Protoss opening with the exception of 2 or 3 of build follows the very standard 12 Gateway, Core opening build that we are going to discuss in this Starcraft 2 Protoss strategy guide. 7. The 12 Gateway, Core opening build is very simple but it is also very efficient, and safe against any races. The goal of this build is to set the base for any mid to later game build by getting the Cybernetics Core out as soon as possible. Below is the build order step by step… The Build Order: 9 Pylon 11 Chrono Boost -> Nexus 12 Gateway, use Probe to scout 13 Chrono Boost -> Nexus 14 Assimilator 16 Pylon 17 Cybernetics Core 18 Zealot (optional) Click Here for More Free Starcraft 2 Guides
8. There are variations to this build like delaying the Gateway till 13 supplies to allow a better flow of resources, but the difference the 13 Gateway makes is very small. So for the most part I would stick to the 12 Gate Core build, unless I know I’m going to play a long macro game where having that slight resources advantage helps. Apart from that this opening is extremely simple, and standard. It is the build order that you’re definitely going to be doing it over and over again if you choose to play Protoss so you might as well get to know it. But keep in mind that this is just an opening build for early game and if you want to learn how to transition into other more complex Protoss strategies, you can read my other Starcraft 2 Protoss strategy guide at Starcraft2Guide.com
