The three main outcomes of the INFINITY
Project
www.xipi.eu www.fi-infinity.eu
The 3 major outcomes/results/offers of the INFINITY Projecta) the XiPi portal. XiPi is an on-line catalogue of Future Internet infrastructures. It currently includes information on more than 150 experimental infrastructures (this number is expected to grow to 200+) that can be used by all Future Internet developers and experimenters as a dedicated search engine to find or complete the test environment they need for their large-scale trials. It can also be used by infrastructure owners and operators to display information on their infrastructure. The portal is available to all at www.xipi.eu. b) a Future Internet Roadmap. The Future Internet roadmap provides help to public authorities and private organizations about where and how they shall invest in the years to come, in order to make Europe a global leader in terms of Future Internet-based solutions. In order to do so, it describes how Future Internet related infrastructures need to evolve and become sustainable to allow FI developments prosper.c) the Common Description Framework (CDF). The CDF and reference schema for infrastructures is a model that allows to describe a Future Internet infrastructure in a harmonized and structured manner. This makes it possible for users of the XiPi portal (i.e. developers and experimenters) but also infrastructure owners and operators, to look at the information of all infrastructures in a consistent and structured manner. When will these 3 major outcomes/results/offers be available?a) The XiPi portal has been on line since April 2012. At this stage (September 2013), 155 infrastructures are available on the catalogue. 200 infrastructures shall be available by the end of 2013. The XiPi portal is available at www.xipi.eu. b) Two preliminary versions of the Future Internet Roadmap are already available; the final version is expected to be available by March 2014. These documents are (or will be when released) publicly available on the INFINITY web site at http://www.fi-infinity.eu/portal/resources/deliverable. c) The final version of the “Common Description Framework and Reference Schema for Infrastructures” is already publicly available at the INFINITY web site at http://www.fi-infinity.eu/portal/resources/deliverable/d36. What concrete impact does the INFINITY Project expect from these 3 major outcomes/results/offers?a) The XiPi portal will be used by all FI-PPP Phase 2 and moreover Phase 3 developers and experimenters in order to find relevant Future Internet infrastructures that they could use for their trials. The portal is also available to any other organization (or individual) willing to search for a dedicated test environment; and also to Future Internet infrastructure owners and operators to enter the information on their infrastructures. The XiPi portal is aiming at being the leading dedicated search engine for Future Internet infrastructures all around Europe and beyond.b) Public authorities, as well as private organizations, can use the Future Internet Roadmap to plan in the most efficient manner their investment in relevant Future Internet infrastructures in the years to come.c) The Common Description Framework and Reference Schema for Infrastructures is aiming at becoming a standard for the description of Future Internet infrastructures. It is already used in XiPi and is intended to be used in other projects and initiatives as well.
