The Candies Foundation is a website designed to educate teenagers and parents about teen pregnancy. The main message of this organization is the message “Pause before you play.” Basically the foundation offers different statistical information so viewers can make sure they pause and think about their future, and most of all pause and think if they are really ready and think about the consequences. \n
Each year more than 750,000 teenage girls will become pregnant in the United States. Out of all those pregnancies 78% are accidental. \n
3 out of 10 girls will become pregnant at least one time in their lives by the age of twenty. Can happen to anyone that is sexually active, who is not taking the proper precautions. It can happen to girls from every background different social classes. \n
Becoming a parent is the number one reason why teenage girls drop out of high school. Even less of those girls will earn a college degree by the age of 30. In one year a couple who has sex without any type of protection has an 85% chance of becoming pregnant. \n
In most cases, 8 out of 10 fathers do not marry the mothers of their child. When thinking about teen pregnancy the focus is usually focused towards the teenage girls. Teenage fathers also plan an important role in the babies future and well being. The fathers rarely will make as much money in their lifetime as men do who wait until at least their twenties to have children. Usually a teen father will \n
Abstinence is the only true 100% effective way to prevent teenage pregnancy. The truth is that only 1/2 of high school teenagers are actually having sex, or have had sex at least once in their lives. Out of those half, 66% of them wish they haven’t, or claimed they weren’t ready for it. Which means that for every three people, two of them wish they hadn’t done it. \n
Hormonal forms of birth control work by releasing amounts of hormones into the body. These hormones prevent the women from ovulating ( releasing of an egg) If no egg is released a pregnancy can not occur. Barrier methods of birth control act as a wall to prevent sperm from ever getting a chance to reach the egg. Barrier methods can prevent STDS, for example condoms. Not all barrier methods do prevent STDs though. \n
If choosing to have sex with your partner, it is very important to make sure you are using protection correctly EVERY TIME. It is also very important to make sure that you discuss a form of contraceptive with your partner no matter how awkward the conversation may feel. You both have to have a clear understanding on what the plan is. \n
The pill is one of the most common form of contraceptives chosen by women. It works by releasing hormones such as estrogen and progestin into the body. There are hundreds of different birth control pills regulated by the FDA, all of which offer different level or hormones, because some individuals require either high or low amounts of hormones for the pill to work properly. \n
Male condoms are the most common form of birth control that is used. Not only do they protect pregnancy, but they are the only form of birth control that prevent sexually transmitted diseases from being spread from person to person. Since condoms come in different sizes, claiming they don’t fit is not an excuse. \n
Female condoms work by preventing sperm from ever reaching an egg, by serving as a wall. These condoms need to be put on before any sexual contact occurs and taken off when sexual contact is over. Both male and female condoms have expiration dates, and heat weakens the latex. its important that they are not stored in wallet, or in warm areas so they remain effective. \n
An IUD, also known as an Intrauterine device is a small plastic device in the shape of a “T” that is inserted into the uterus. Mirena releases a small amount of progestin wish affects a women’s ovulation. Copper T is another form of an IUD, but unlike Mirena, Copper T doesn’t contain any hormones. Since there are no hormones, the user will continue their period on a regular schedule. \n
Plan b is a form of an emergency contraceptive that is only supposed to be used as a “safety net.” It is only supposed to be used after unprotected sex or birth control failure. This form is not intended to be used as a regular birth control. These pills include high levels of hormones that should not be taken over and over regularly. \n
Another type of Emergency contraceptive. Works by blocking the effects of progesterone. Just like Plan B it needs to be taken within 5 days of unprotected sex. Unlike Plan B this pill is just as effective on day 1 as it is on day 5\n
