  1. What are the important trends related to your topic... what are people talking about? what’s sparking conversation?
  2. what issues are at stake? are there big picture issues that come to the surface...
  3. who is leading the conversation? who are people pointing to as particularly insightful/knowledgeable in your topic area?
  4. who is listening to those influencers and participating in those conversations?
  5. start with: is your focus narrow or wide? what does that mean? narrow: student credit ... wide: personal finance and financial literacy narrow: skatepark under Washington/Jefferson bridge .... wide: support for skateboarding, embracing subculture, providing active options for kids
  6. Elements Naturals... Baby wipes. - natural (no petroleum based products, chlorine, etc.) - compostable - made from Ingeo/renewable resource
  7. I use these levels to help organizations think about the different things that they can produce content around... but it also works if you are thinking about influencers and audience.
  8. where do you look? depending on your topic, there are influencers and audiences in each of these different mediums (and there are more mediums than this... these are the “biggies.”)
  9. You all know how to Google... but do you know how to GOOGLE? Some tips for searching... these apply to most search engines, by the way. If you Bing or Yahoo.
  10. Also called Boolean search - these will work on many search engines
  11. finding blogs...
  12. check out advanced search options, too.
  13. tineye is a reverse search engine... put in the photo and it’ll tell you where it appears!
  14. what is delicious? why would you want to search it?
  15. what can you search on facebook?
  16. What will all this get you???
