NAYS COACH TRAINING
Coaches can complete the training
online at nays.org or by attending an
on-site training hosted by your
Member Organization. It is your
decision.
nays.org
What are the benefits of the online
training?
The online training is popular because of the
convenience it provides to coaches and league
organizers. Coaches can complete the training in
multiple sessions at their own pace.
Flexibility. Some Member Organizations only
offer the online training to their coaches while
others host one or more on-site training then
leave the online training as an option for those
who were unable to attend.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ONLINE
38
nays.org
Can we pay for our coaches to take the
online training?
Yes. As an organization you will need to
decide if you wish to cover the NAYS
Coach Training fees for your coaches or if
each individual coach will cover their own
fee. Depending on what you decide there
will be different ways to inform your
coaches about how to sign up.

nays.org
Why are the benefits of hosting on-site
trainings?
On-site trainings allow you to have face to face
time with coaches. Coaches are able to ask
questions and get to know program
administrators and each other. On-site trainings
also allow coaches who are not as comfortable
using the computer an opportunity to complete
the training.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
44
nays.org
How can we host an on-site training?
A representative from your organization has the
ability to host on-site trainings for your coaches.
You will use training videos and materials
provided at no cost by the National Alliance for
Youth Sports. You will need to allow a minimum
of three hours to administer the NAYS Coach
Training depending on the size of your group.
45
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
nays.org
Who is the trainer?/Does NAYS send a
trainer?
NAYS does not send a trainer. Someone from
your organization will facilitate the training.
However the trainers/instructors are on the
videos and they are fully responsible for the
information expressed to the coaches. Because
there is an insurance benefit associated with the
completion of the training, you are not permitted
to deviate from the training procedures.
46
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
nays.org
What is the role of the training
facilitator?
The training facilitator will schedule the training date and
location and invite coaches to attend. Your NAYS Member
Organization’s lead representative will place the order for
training materials through your account at nays.org, by
phone or by email.
On the date of the clinic, training facilitators will welcome
coaches, show the training videos, lead discussion when
called for on the training video, read the review questions,
recite the NAYS Code of Ethics for Coaches and collect
membership information from coaches.
ON-SITE TRAINING
47
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
nays.org
Can we present additional information
at the training?
Yes, we encourage you to take the opportunity to
provide additional information specific to your
program, allow veteran coaches to share their
insights with new coaches, or give supplemental
handouts or instruction you feel will help your
coaches. Just please don’t skip any of the
required NAYS Coach Training videos and
activities.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
48
nays.org
Where can we host on-site trainings?
On-site trainings are hosted by your
organization whenever and wherever is
convenient for you and your coaches.
Choose a space with the ability to show
the training videos and enough seating for
your coaches.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
49
nays.org
How do we order training materials?
First, choose a date, time and location of
training and invite coaches to attend.
Then, the lead representative from your
NAYS Member Organization places the
order for videos and materials through the
Order Materials feature in the Member
Organization account, by phone or by
email.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
50
nays.org
When do we pay for the membership
fees?
Prior to conducting your first on-site training, your
organization must pay for the coaches’ membership fees.
Prepayment is only necessary for the first on-site training.
For subsequent trainings, you may order materials as
needed and remit membership fees with the coaches’
roster, after the training takes place.
Make a prepayment by adding credit to your account
balance online or using the First Training Order and
Payment form.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
51
nays.org
What are our responsibilities after the
training?
After the training takes place, the training
facilitator or the lead representative completes
the required paperwork and submits it along with
any unpaid membership fees to NAYS
Headquarters. This can be done either through
your account, by email, fax or mail. Keep in mind,
your coaches’ membership and insurance
benefits are only valid once training rosters and
fees have been submitted to and processed by
the NAYS national office.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
52
nays.org
We offer a sport not listed under NAYS
sport-specific trainings, can we train
our coaches?
Yes. Although NAYS may not have a video for one of your
organization’s sports, you still may offer on-site NAYS
Coach Trainings. (See page 56 for listing of approved
sports.) Your organization will recruit a local expert, such as
an experienced high school or college coach, to cover the
sport-specific information.
In the training, the coaches view the Coaching Youth
Sports video in the same format as they would for any
other sport. Your local speaker conducts the second portion
of the training following the NAYS Speaker’s Guide.
NAYS COACH TRAINING ON-SITE
53
nays.org
What is the Speaker’s Guide?
The Speaker’s Guide is a booklet that gives your

Organization account. The Speaker’s Guide
booklet should be provided to your speaker in
