An Interesting Fact
• Humans are the only
mammals that willingly
delay sleep.
Signs that You are Sleep Deprived
• Simple decisions stump
you.
• You’re still hungry even
after eating.
• You keep getting sick.
• You’re a bit more
emotional than normal.
• You’ve become more of
a klutz.
Health Risks from Not Getting Enough
Sleep
• Stroke
• Cancer
• Diabetes
• Obesity
• And many other consequences
– Women are more susceptible to cardiovascular
and psychological problems.
Tips to Getting Sleep at Night
• Sleep in complete
darkness, or close to it.
• Keep temperature no
higher than 70 degrees
Fahrenheit.
• Avoid using loud alarm
clocks.
– It’s not good for your
body to be jolted awake.
Tips (continued)
• Go to bed at the same
time every night.
• Have a bed time
routine.
• Take a shower or bath
before going to bed.
• Get the right amount of
sleep for you.
– See infographic.

• Avoid caffeine.
• Avoid alcohol.
• Exercise regularly for 30
minutes a day.
– Don’t exercise right
before bed though.
• Don’t read anything
suspenseful or action-
packed before bed.
– You may not want to go
to bed.
