The Kawit Church was first established in 1638 as a wooden structure that was destroyed in an 1831 typhoon. The present structure was constructed in 1737 and renovated in 1990. It was significant because General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippine Republic, was baptized there in 1869. The church attracts over 60,000 tourists each year, mostly domestic visitors.
