Editor's Notes
- Twitter is all about timeliness
- Esp. good for conferences – both meeting people and chatting with them afterward
- Have to distill an idea into a short character limit
- (speaking of shameless self promotion)
- Actual tweet, <140 characters, can include links and @-mentions of other people
- Relatively new. Works for images, video, articles, etc.
- Twitter handle and display name don’t have to be related
- Tweet aggregate in a stream in real time. Only see tweets of those you follow.
- You get a notification every time someone mentions you
- #hashtags are both for events and extra flavor
- Old school was to “RT @XXX …”
- Can reply to multiple people in 1 tweet (though it costs characters). Note that replies are HIDDEN in a stream unless people follow both you and the person you are replying to. Real power of Twitter here in having real-time conversations.
- Can follow leaders in your field, famous people, or brands.
- Follow who your friends follow/chat with/retweet
- And don’t message people thanking them for following you
- Can’t RT easily, respect their privacy
- Also, follow hashtags
