The more we know about the Cosmos the stranger it seems to get. The new Kepler space telescope has detected many new “exoplanet”—planets in other star systems. Some of these planets are quite strange. One has the density of Styrofoam. Another seems to be hotter than the star it revolves around. Kinks in the Kepler telescope’s sensors have been worked around using computers and the ground and it is now providing amazing data from millions of star systems. The refurbished Hubble Space Telescope has now peered more deeply into the past than ever before to almost the dawn of the Universe. In addition, the James Webb Telescope will soon allow us to see even further back in time. Come hear Dr. Eric P. Smith, NASA astrophysicist show and tell us about the Latest and Greatest News from the Cosmos.

The Universe is a beautiful place full of captivating galaxies, stars, planets, asteroids, and infinite other bodies. Stars probably hold the title for the most fascinating celestial objects there. From growing up with stories of how stars are actually angels to finally knowing that the Sun is a star as well. While the Universe is still a mystery to us, there is a lot we know. Here are the ten biggest stars in the Universe that are known to mankind till date.

The international Cassini-Huygens spacecraft was launched on October 15, 1997 and had a marathon 7-year 2-billion mile journey to the distant planet Saturn. The 23-foot tall, 14-foot wide, 6-ton spacecraft is the largest most sophisticated outer planet spacecraft ever built, and is in its third year of operation in orbit around the planet Saturn. Cassini-Huygens has been returning extraordinary data about the entire Saturn system: the spectacular rings; the numerous icy satellites with a variety of unique surface features; the giant planet itself; a huge magneto-sphere teeming with particles that interact with the rings and moons; and the intriguing moon Titan, which is slightly larger than the planet Mercury, and whose hazy atmosphere is denser than that of Earth. This talk will be an overview of the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn with a summary of the top science returns of its first three years in orbit. The Minnesota Space Grant Consortium, run out of the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics at the University of Minnesota, hosts Trina Ray of NASA JPL on January 22, 2008.

Autonomic computing is a new computing paradigm which combines multiple disciplines of computer science with the sole aim of developing self-managing computer systems. Dating from early 2001, it is one of the most recent paradigm shifts, and as such it is still in a research-only phase, however, attracting a lot of business investors in the process. The following survey presents in a clear and appropriately detailed manner the problem of computer science which autonomic computing tries to solve, the details of the proposed solution, together with the some of the immediate and long-term benefits it will provide. Moreover, the survey outlines the basic principles which define a system as an autonomic one, and presents a novel method of designing autonomic systems. Closing the survey are two sections which briefly outline the most prominent research projects on autonomic computing, together with a distiled summary of the major challenges which will be faced by businesses in the process of adopting autonomic systems.

Rainbow Storage is a group of techniques to store digital data in some colours, colour combinations and symbols in Rainbow Format. The technique is used to achieve high-density storage. With the help of Rainbow system we would be watching full-length high definition videos from a piece of paper! The main attraction is the cheap paper. The Rainbow technology is feasible because printed text, readable by the human eye does not make optimal use of the potential capacity of paper to store data. By printing the data encoded in a denser way much higher capacities can be achieved
