2. My Tools
Borrow a curriculum from the school near your place. Accomplish the samples to show the
dimensions of curriculum design.
Equiptable assignment of content, time, experiences and other elements.
Write the contents in one (1) subject are for the first grading period.
BASIC
3. Curriculum is arranged vertically or horizontally.
VERTICAL ARTICULATION
Write a sample of content of one (1) topic in a subject are from level to level or grade
to grade.
Subject Area: Mathematics Topic: Plane Figures, Geometry
HORIZONTAL ARTICULATION
Association happens among or between elements that happens at the same time.
Example:
GRADE 7 GRADE 8 GRADE 9 GRADE 10
Plane figures were
introduced with
their basic
characteristics.
Quadrilaterals were
focused. They
studied different
theorems in
connection to
quadrilaterals.
Triangles were focused
in this year level.
Theorems in proving
congruent triangles and
other related concepts
were studied in depth.
Circles is the focus
in Grade 10. The
study includes lines
in the circle, angle
computation, arcs,
etc.
ARTICULATION
The lesson direct variation is related to the discussion of motion in
Physics in which the distance traveled by a car has a relationship on the
time consumed in traveling. In general, Mathematics and Science moves
horizontally in the curriculum.
4. The contents, topics, learning experience and organizing threads of an
educational plan.
Write sample topics in a subject area.
Content and experiences are arranged in a hierarchical order.
Write a topic arranged from simple to complex.
In Operation of Polynomials, addition and subtraction is taught first since it is
simpler and its concept can be used in more complex level of operation like the
multiplication and division of polynomials. Multiplication and division of polynomia ls
were taught after the other two due to complexity of concept.
Everything is integrated and interconnected.
SCOPE
SCOPE
Subject: Mathematics
1. Sets (subsets, universal sets, null sets, operation on sets)
2. Integers (Basic concept of integers, operation of integers)
SEQUENCE
SEQUENCE
INTEGRATION
INTEGRATION
Since everything is integrated, then lessons in math must relate to real life situations
that students can comprehend in their level. An example is that, in discussing geometry,
students must actually measure and solve the perimeter or area of a certain figure. This can
be done by having an activity like letting them measure the dimension of their room. This
activity is interactive since it is done in groups. It is also rewarding.
5. Vertical repetition and recurring approaches of the content
provide continuity.
Examples of topics in a subject area where condtent is organized in a spiral fashion
increasing in a breadth and depth.
Subject Area: Mathematics
CONTINUITY
CONTINUITY
In the school that I performed my observation, the Math curriculum just revolved
mainly in four areas namely: Algebra, Geometry, Statistics and Probability.
Algebra deals with polynomials, equations and other number sense. Geometry
studies plane figures and computations regarding to perimeter, areas and volumes of the
space and solid figures. And lastly, Statistics and Probability study data and how it relates
to one another. These topics were taught repeatedly from Grade 7 to Grade 10 but with
increasing depth and breadth. Of course, Grade 7 had simpler topics compared to Grade 10.
6. My Analysis
1. Why is there a need to articulate the lessons from grade school to high school?
Learning is a process. it can be put into simple analogyin terms of
standing, walking and running. Wise men say that before you must learn
to run, you must learn first to walk but before learning to walk, you need
to learn first on how to stand. Thisproves learning as a process. we learn
level by level. Knowing it as a process, then there is a great need to
articulate lessons from grade school to high school. Articulating lessons
can bedoneby relating subjects to each other to reduce fragmentation and
to ensure learning as the level rises from simple (grade school) to more
complex (high school). We must also note that grade school is the
foundation years for high school.
7. My Reflections/My Insights
As a teacher, I need to understand fully the dimensions of curriculum design
because …
it guides me in making effective curriculum and in implementing it
to my learners. as a curriculum maker and implementer, I need full
understandingof all dimensions of the curriculum dueto the fact that it is
my main function as a teacher. Teaching is making someone learn. Then
proper consideration is needed on the scope of the lesson, its sequenceand
continuity, the integration of concepts, the flow of the lesson and the
balance of the subject matter. This will make learning more effective.
8. My Portfolio
Make a curricular web to illustrate that content in the curriculum has no boundary.
Curriculum
Filipino
Math
Literature
MAPeH
9. Content in the curriculum had no boundaries. Say for example, Math which is link to
Science since these two go along especially when it comes to Physics and Chemistry. Math
can also go with History since concepts discussed today are products of the endeavor from the
past. Even History itself is linked to other curriculum content like MAPeH (we need history to
understand the origin of music, arts or the games in MAPeH); Literature (understanding the
past will also give us understanding of our present literature); and Values (we will understand
the change in Values through History). In another field, English may relate to Filipino since
they have almost the same rules in sentence construction, parts of speech, etc. They are both
related to Literature. Also, Science is related to MAPeH is some field like Health.
