Pesticides are a collective term for chemicals intended to kill unwanted insects, plants, molds, and rodents. Children encounter pesticides daily and have unique susceptibilities to their po- tential toxicity. Acute poisoning risks are clear, and understanding of chronic health implications from both acute and chronic exposure are emerging. Epidemiologic evidence demonstrates associations between early life exposure to pesticides and pediatric cancers, decreased cog- nitive function, and behavioral problems. Related animal toxicology studies provide supportive biological plausibility for these findings. Recognizing and reducing problematic exposures will require attention to current inadequacies in medical training, public health tracking, and regulatory action on pesticides. Ongoing research describing toxico- logic vulnerabilities and exposure factors across the life span are needed to inform regulatory needs and appropriate interventions. Pol- icies that promote integrated pest management, comprehensive pes- ticide labeling, and marketing practices that incorporate child health considerations will enhance safe use. Pediatrics 2012;130:e1757–e1763 INTRODUCTION Pesticides represent a large group of products designed to kill or harm living organisms from insects to rodents to unwanted plants or ani- mals (eg, rodents), making them inherently toxic (Table 1). Beyond acute poisoning, the influences of low-level exposures on child health are of increasing concern. This policy statement presents the position of the American Academy of Pediatrics on exposure to these products. It was developed in conjunction with a technical report that provides a thorough review of topics presented here: steps that pediatricians should take to identify pesticide poisoning, evaluate patients for pesticide-related illness, provide appropriate treatment, and pre.

Learning Objectives: Contrast the neural and local control of circulations through special regions. Compare the physiological significance of variation in circulations through special regions. Content Overview: This lecture provides a comprehensive exploration of circulation in specialized regions of the body, including coronary, cerebral, splanchnic, cutaneous, fetal, skeletal muscle, and pulmonary circulations. The physiological and anatomical considerations, regulation mechanisms, and unique features of each type of circulation are discussed. Key concepts such as autoregulation, local metabolic factors, and neural influences are covered in detail. Key Topics: Coronary Circulation: Anatomy and physiology of coronary blood supply. Phasic changes in blood flow during systole and diastole. Regulation by autonomic nervous system and local metabolic factors (hypoxia, adenosine). Cerebral Circulation: Control by local metabolic factors (CO2, H+). Autoregulation and hyperemia. Anatomy of cerebral blood supply and special features of cerebral blood vessels. Splanchnic Circulation: Anatomy and regulation of blood flow to the gastrointestinal organs. Role of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Chemical factors and the concept of autoregulatory escape. Cutaneous Circulation: Thermoregulatory function and dense nervous innervation. Mechanisms of vasodilation and vasoconstriction. Blood reservoir function and responses to mechanical stimuli. Fetal Circulation: Unique aspects of fetal blood flow including umbilical vessels, ductus venosus, foramen ovale, and ductus arteriosus. Changes in circulation at birth and the stimuli for these changes. Skeletal Muscle Circulation: Regulation during rest and exercise. Role of nervous and local metabolic control. Circulatory adjustments during physical activity. Pulmonary Circulation: Characteristics and regulation of pulmonary blood flow. Zones of blood flow in the lungs and the effect of gravity. Response to hypoxia and other factors influencing pulmonary vascular resistance

A transition period regarding in vitro medical device (IVD) regulation in the European Union (EU) is upon us. The former IVDD regulations are phasing out and IVDR 2017/746 has already taken its place as the acting regulation for IVD manufacturers but also lab developed tests (LDTs) and health institutions. In our upcoming webcast we will talk about the roles and significance of IVDR and ISO 13485 certification for clinical labs and for Golden Helix as a medical device manufacturer. Join us as we will introduce VarSeq 2.6.1 complete with Dx Mode, which offers the use of VarSeq as CE marked medical device. Even more we will also present strategies to facilitate the transition of Golden Helix customers to operate in accordance with IVDR.
