Caso de éxito en rehabilitación con Poliuretano Proyectado en una nave industrial en estado de degradación. Un óptimo aislamiento e impermeabilización permitieron solucionar y frenar el deterioro de cubierta inclinada de 9.000 m2. Para frenar el deterioro de la cubierta de una nave industrial de Madrid, se eligió la aplicación de la espuma de poliuretano proyectado (PUR) por su capacidad impermeabilizadora contra el agua. El PUR proyectado ofrece una respuesta idónea a los requerimientos del DB-HS1 del Código Técnico de la Edificación (CTE) sobre estanqueidad, resistencia a la aparición de posibles fisuras, adherencia y estabilidad. La capa de protección empleada, posterior a la capa de espuma se aplicó.

Objeto de conferencia International Conference on Engineering Education ICEE-2011 (Irlanda) The Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC) is a non-profit organization comprised of educational, research, industrial, and multilateral organizations throughout the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula. The Consortium was established in 1990 to foster scientific, engineering, and technology education, joint international research and development efforts among its members, and to provide a cost-effective vehicle for the application and transfer of technology. After twenty years, ISTEC has established a presence in the region, but it also has experienced problems to interact with different cultures and interests. During 2010 it suffered important changes in its organization and big efforts were realized to accomplish new goals and to share worldwide expertise, to facilitate distributed problem solving, creating the local critical mass needed for the development of regional projects in areas such as: continuing education, libraries and repositories, globalization of the culture of quality and accreditation standards, R&D, intellectual property development, capital acquisition, and social responsibility, among others. ISTEC continues to be dedicated to the improvement of Science, Engineering, Technology, Math education, R&D, and Entrepreneurship. The Consortium will foster technology transfer and the development of social and business entrepreneurs through the implementation of a global network that pretends to reach other countries in the world creating clusters of businesses and institutions that share common interest, assisting in the establishment of strategic alliances/joint ventures, and the promotion of collaborative partnerships in general. Scotland has a distinctive and highly regarded tradition of education that is recognised internationally. However, while the Scottish Government has been active in formulating Digital Future strategies and open data policies, it has yet to articulate policies to support open education and open educational resources. Elsewhere in the UK, the Higher Education Funding Council for England funded a £15M (€17,5M) OER programme, which ran from 2009 to 2012. The UKOER Programme, managed by JISC and the Higher Education Academy and supported by Cetis, funded a large number of projects that released OERs, developed and embedded open practices and built capacity within institutions and across subject domains. Although restricted to the English HE sector, the UKOER Programmes demonstrated that open educational resources and practices have the potential to address current issues in Scottish education. Although no comparable funding programme exists in Scotland, a number of ‘grassroots’ initiatives are emerging from the further and higher education sector that are opening up Scottish education. In order to explore how Scotland can leverage the power of open to develop the nation’s unique education offering, support social inclusion and inter-institutional collaboration and sharing, and engage with EU open education directives, Cetis are facilitating an Open Scotland Summit, which will explore the development of open education policies and practices for Scotland. This paper will provide a critical overview of open education initiatives in Scotland in the wider context of UK, European and global developments, and present the outcomes and findings of the Open Scotland Summit.

While production and use of Open Education Resources are coming closer to a tipping point, in particular in english speaking areas - nations and regions using less used languages seem to by bypassed by development - and potential not in the position to share the benefits from modern education and learning. However, good examples exist, as the Netherlands. Which policies might be necessary to change the situation in areas lagging? Reviewing policy advices in light of the recent development - this presentation and action lab will consider policy advices to be released now. This is a LangOER action, presented and supported by LangOER, Open Education Consortium and ICDE in partnership.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.
