The image shows a band (more specifically
Arctic Monkeys) performing at a concert.
The angle of the photo makes it seem that it
is not someone in the audience recording
but actually a hired photographer that is
taking professional pictures
The use of spotlights on the stage is to pin concert-goers interests on the musicians.
Some spotlights have filters to fill the area with colour and give the performance
more character.
With the composition being drums in the back, the three guitarists at the front with
the lead vocalist in the centre it makes the points of focus clearly on the band.
It appeals to their audience because they get to listen to their favourite songs by that
band, live. The experience of going to an event like this also leaves good memories.
3. Existing Product
CDs are how a customer keeps and saves
a musicians songs.
The style of this CD is simplistic and
minimal but looks nice and isn’t too
detailed for a 120 mm surface
The two colours used are good for
an artistic design for the CD.
As for the case. The front provides
a little information on the CD and
what it features as well as having
the album’s name in the centre
for clarity.
4. Existing Product
Merchandise is a great way for fans to show
their love for bands, films or any company
really. Bands can also gain recognition from
people working around wearing their name.
The marketing side of musical groups is a good
technique to make them grow and become
more known.
A lot of these kinds of t-shirts are pretty stylish
and makes people who don’t even know the
band, buy one.
This t-shirt is symbolic for the band as it calls
back to on of their own album covers. The
design with silhouettes of the characters that
the band has created, is reminiscent and iconic
of the band.
6. Research Analysis
•What common features do the researched products
have?
• They all have obvious branding of the band
• They benefit the consumer one way or another albeit: new
clothing, music to play whenever or memories to last forever.
•What aspects of the research will you include within your
on work?
• I will try make my products be informative and stylish while also
being very clearly iconic for the band.
• Simplistic colour design catches the eye and appeals the target
audience. Brighter colours maybe aimed towards younger fans
and darker, more traditional schemes to the older
8. Audience research
Observation – Most people
have spent money on a piece
of a bands merchandise, as
the results show 14.28%
more people said yes
This shows some of my audience
may be willing to buy Fake Band’s
merch as to remember them by
and be supportive
We can make a branch
of products to reach
out to potential
customers, such as: T-
shirts, Caps, CDs
9. Audience research
Observation – Streaming services
are now the main platform (with
85.71% of survey-takers) where
people listen to music in place of
CDs and records that only got
7.14% in votes.
A lot more people are using
the modern technique of
streaming their music live
with applications like Spotify
and ITunes
Make our music accessible
via streaming as well as
selling CDs to widen our
market and the amount
listens we can have
10. Audience research
Observation – A clear display of what
people think of the bands. This also
shows how responsive the audience is
and how many answered and how many
skipped this question with 8 out of 14 not
actually answering the question
We can see what kind of
imagery audiences have
and think of when thinking
of Rock/Indie bands
Using this information I
know what to put in and
how to present my finished
product, the Fake Band
11. Audience research
Observation – Results show
how my audience were
introduced to this genre of
music with most of them
finding songs on different
media such as YouTube as
shown by 64.29% voting for
it over any other option.
This is an easy way to find
out the best way to make
our music available to our
target audience, and see
where most people get to
listen to their bands
Using this we know
where we should make
our music accessible
and how likely people
are to find it.
12. Audience research
Observation – Responses prove
that mot people are indeed
interested in seeing their
favourite bands live with only
14.29% saying they don’t
It shows some of the
audience is willing to pay
for a viewing of bands up
on stage and some might
buy tickets for this band
We can appeal to the audiences
of live performances by actually
holding our own show and
maybe even a tour to different
locations and reach out to all
possible fans
13. Audience research
Likes:
Dislikes:
Observation – Here we can see
the exact likes and dislikes the
people who took the survey have
with live performances with each
having an individual answer
This presents the audience as
critics and allows us, as the band,
to try our hardest to make sure
the likable aspects are there and
the unlikable aren’t
Our product can
use these
answers to meet
the expectations
of our audience
14. Audience research
Observation – Not
many people still buy
CDs as the majority
voted for the answer
“Do they still exist?”
It seems that audiences no longer
purchase as many CDs as people
did in 90s and early 00s except for
the 14% that have got one or more
in the last month and another 14%
that have within the past 6.
For the small amount of
the audience who still
listen to their music on
CDs, we will produce
some to purchase at gigs
and online
15. Audience research
Observation – 10 out of the 14 people
who took the survey answered this
question, either meaning they didn’t
want to share their answer or they don’t
have a favourite band. This shows the
extent of how responsive this audience is
Here we get to know
the survey-takers
favourite bands and
artist and what genre
their preferred music is.
We can see if these
bands here match any of
the same tastes as my
fake band project so we
know if we already have
a following
16. Audience research
Observation – A lot people
prefer more a simplified
look on an album cover
compared to that of a
more complicated
This lets us know what the
survey-takers prefer and
potentially is preferred by
out target audience
This information is
helpful as we know what
design to make our
album and that there are
people who will enjoy it
17. Audience research
Observation – These results show the
demographic that voters suggest
should be my target audience for the
band. By far the most voted
individual would be a male teenagers
This shows us what the
survey-takers believe is the
target audience for this
genre of bands and who
may enjoy the kind of music
With this, we can get an
understanding on who
are target audience are
and all the possible
ways we can appeal to
their interests
