JRF’s strategy pledges were included in the Fairer Scotland Action Plan,
a Scottish Government document that outlines 50 actions to help tackle poverty,
reduce inequality and build a fairer and more inclusive Scotland.
Actions include making affordable credit more available.
4. #solveukpoverty
Queens Cross Housing association, ng Homes & Maryhill Housing in Glasgow,
responded to JRF’s strategy by signing a pledge, The Charter to Challenge
Poverty, which sets out recommendations for housing providers to address
poverty. The charter calls for more investment in low-cost housing,
affordable rent setting and help for tenants on digital inclusion.
5. #solveukpoverty
Big Society Capital partnered with JRF and pledged to end the poverty premium
by 2027, committing to raising £20 million of social investment through a new
programme called ‘Fair by Design: making life affordable’.
Big Society Capital will focus on social investment to help charities and social
enterprises grow. Wayra, part of the programme, was launched in Oldham in June,
and will provide investment for tech start-ups who are looking for solutions
to the poverty premium.
6. #solveukpoverty
The solving poverty strategy prompted Turn2us to set-up their first new fund
for 120 years. The Turn2us Response Fund provides immediate support to
people dealing with adverse life-changing events such as job loss, bereavement,
or long-term ill health, through financial grants via intermediary organisations.

Business in the Community Scotland used JRF’s strategy as the basis of the
Scottish National Action Plan for Responsible Business network (SNAP)
and the creation of its Leadership Groups. Convening a group of businesses,
working with government and issue experts, BITC Scotland's Leadership Groups
have a clear mission: to improve the lives of families affected by poverty through
the collaborative actions of employers in Scotland.
8. #solveukpoverty
UK Coaching worked with JRF and grassroots organisations to look at how
to support families on low incomes to take part in sporting events, classes and
equipment. In partnership with JRF, UK Coaching ran an online live learning event
with Country Sport Partnerships to provide insight from JRF research and look at
the choices people living in poverty have to make on a daily basis. This has enabled
local partners who deliver sport and physical activity to consider the needs and
wants of people living in these communities when designing active programmes.
9. #solveukpoverty
Many other organisations have been prompted to act on JRF’s strategy to solve
UK poverty. Share with us your change or what you intend to do to tackle poverty
