Argentina has been a hub of unconventional oil and gas activity
following shale gas and tight oil discoveries in plays such as the Vaca
Muerta and San Jorge. The Vaca Muerta in Neuquén is estimated
to hold 16 billion barrels of shale oil and 308 trillion cubic feet of
shale gas – creating game changing demand for exploration data,
completions expertise and fracking equipment.
The unconventional reserves in Argentina are inarguably prolific but
the big question for operators now is, how do we exploit them cost
effectively; the answer to which lies in drilling and completions
techniques and equipment costs.
Restrictions on the import of drilling rigs, LWD technology, materials
and tools are prohibiting access to best-priced services and the
progress of projects. Because of a lack of conclusive well data
and import limitations, Argentina hasn’t as yet, been able to full
capitalize on the prolific reserves present. However, recent test
wells and exploration results have prompted further investment
both domestically and internationally, meaning development is now
speeding up like never before. A foundation of efficient drilling and
completions practices, from multi-pad drilling and casing design to
proppant and frack fluid selection, now needs adopted to drive the
development and economics of unconventional oil and gas production
in the country holding the fourth largest reserves in the world.
The Tight Oil  Shale Gas Drilling  Completions Congress
Argentina 2013 is the first congress to addresses the most current
and topical challenges hampering the efficiency and economics of
operations in the country.
EP speakers at the Congress will identify low-cost drilling and
completions techniques for high recovery shale gas and tight
oil wells and will examine how to attain competitively priced
technology to improve the economics and logistics of unconventional
development in Argentina.
Day One focuses on drilling by exploring methods for accessing
drilling technology services, assessing best practices for casing
design and mud optimization. Methodologies for underbalanced
drilling will then be examined followed by case studies on
geomechanical interpretation, corrosion and multi-well pad drilling.
Day Two highlights current completion designs, practices and
technologies being used including a study of the behaviour of
fractures and case studies on the performance of plug and perf vs
packers, multi stage fracturing, proppant selection and fracking fluid
effectiveness. Day two ends by outlining effective water management
strategies and the assessing the possibility of developing a US-style
public access database to improve collective completions efficiency.

The Vaca Muerta in Neuquén is estimated to hold 16 billion barrels of shale oil and 308 trillion cubic feet of shale gas – creating game changing demand for exploration data, completions expertise and fracking equipment. The unconventional reserves in Argentina are inarguably prolific but the big question for operators now is, how do we exploit them cost effectively; the answer to which lies in drilling and completions techniques and equipment costs. Restrictions on the import of drilling rigs, LWD technology, materials and tools are prohibiting access to best-priced services and the progress of projects. Because of a lack of conclusive well data and import limitations, Argentina hasn’t as yet, been able to full capitalize on the prolific reserves present. However, recent test wells and exploration results have prompted further investment both domestically and internationally, meaning development is now speeding up like never before. A foundation of efficient drilling and completions practices, from multi-pad drilling and casing design to proppant and frack fluid selection, now needs adopted to drive the development and economics of unconventional oil and gas production in the country holding the fourth largest reserves in the world. The Tight Oil Shale Gas Drilling Completions Congress Argentina 2013 is the first congress to addresses the most current and topical challenges hampering the efficiency and economics of operations in the country.
