  13. 13. Owner Sue Ford opened Candy for all Occasions in New London after many trials and downfalls. From starting out in her basement, to her first store in Delaware, Sue has an edge over competeters with her experience and drive. Sue hopes to create a business that will support her family and continue to be successful in all aspects. Candy for all Occasions is a family ran business and Sue would like to keep it that way in the future. Currently business is doing well and the customer base continues to grow. With a team of eight employees, Candy for all Occasions is steadily ran and creates a genial atmosphere. In the area, Sue is lucky enough to be the only candy maker, but does face some competition with her ice cream business. Some competeters would be the Station in West Grove, and Jay’s in Oxford. Sue sees advantages in having freedom of creativity and the ability to create her own working hours. However, she finds disadvantages from the pressure that comes from being at the top. Such as, responsibility for dissatisfied customers and low profit time periods. Some regulations of this business include wearing gloves, containing hair, and keeping a sanitary work station. Taxes force Sue to work longer hours to file taxes and she collects sales tax on stationary items, such as the greeting cards. Candy for all Occasions is a must see establishment in New London. It combines traditional and new generation candies that appeal to all ages.
