1886 -Gold and Diamonds “uitlanders" or "foreigners" Cecil Rhodes Barney Barnato Oppenheimer British colonial officials
The most powerful South African financial house was Wernher, Beit and Co., which was controlled and run by a speculator from Germany named Alfred Beit. Cecil Rhodes relied heavily on support from Beit, whose close ties to the Rothschilds, and the Dresdner Bank made it possible for Rhodes to acquire his diamond fortune (Flint, pp. 86-93; and Emden). Beit and Lionel Phillips, a millionaire from England, together controlled H. Eckstein & Co., the largest South African mining syndicate. Of the six largest mining companies, four were controlled by capitalists (Saron, pp. 193-4). The stake in the Boer lands was not limited to gold and diamonds. One year before the war began; a daughter company of the Beit, Phillips conglomerate had some two million acres of the most valuable agricultural land in the Transvaal Republic (s, p. 79). By 1894, Beit and Phillips were conspiring behind the backs of Briton and Boer alike to "improve" the Transvaal parliament with tens of thousands of pounds in bribe money. In one case, Beit and Phillips spent 25,000 pounds to arrange settlement of an important issue before the Volksdraad.
The discovery of gold at Witwatersrand in the Transvaal in 1886 sealed the doom of the hardy pioneer folk. Gold and diamonds drew foreigners ("uitlanders" or "outlanders") like a magnet. As often happens in history, the origins of this war have been obscured behind clouds of emotional "patriotic" rhetoric and in bitterness over the savage slaughter and destruction. Many details in the background story of how this war began have come to light only years after the fighting had ended. A masterful work, The Boer War, for example, published by Random House, sheds further light on the dark origins of the shameful conflict. Author Thomas Pakenham dissects the conspiracy of British colonial officials and financiers to plunge South Africa into war. The men who flocked to South Africa in search of wealth included the English diamond capitalist, Cecil Rhodes, and a collection of ambitious colonists who were to play a decisive role fomenting the Boer war. Barney Barnato, a dapper, vulgar fellow from London's East End, was the first of many who have had a major impact on South African affairs. Working with Cecil Rhodes, he quickly amassed a fortune in gold, land speculation and diamonds. His empire controlled a labor force of 120,000 men. Through shrewd financial maneuvers Barnato seized control of De Beers Consolidated Mines in 1888 and thereby acquired a virtual monopoly of the world's diamond output. (Today, Harry Oppenheimer controls the De Beers cartel, which still sets the world diamond prices, as well as the largest gold mining company and the most influential newspapers in South Africa.)
1895 – Jameson Raid 500 British adventurers tried to seize control of the Boer republics Sir Alfred Milner British High commissioner
In 1895, over 500 British adventurers tried to seize control of the Boer republics by staging the "unofficial" Jameson Raid into the Transvaal. Rhodes organized the venture, which Beit financed to the tune of 200,000 pounds. Although the raid failed, it convinced the Boers that the British were determined to take away their hard-won independence. The blood of those who died in the abortive raid also baptized the alliance of finance and British imperialism (Saron, pp. 193-94; Second, p. vii). Transvaal authorities arrested Phillips for his part in organizing the raid. They found incriminating secret correspondence between Phillips and co-conspirators Beit and Rhodes which encouraged Phillips to confess his guilt. A special Transvaal court condemned Phillips to death for his crimes, but following British protests, the sentence was commuted to a fine of 25,000 pounds. Later, after returning to Britain, the financier was knighted for his services to the Empire and during the First World War was given a high post in the Ministry of Munitions.
Conspiring for War Lord Kitchener Paul Kruger
Undaunted by the Jameson Raid fiasco, Sir Alfred Milner, the British High commissioner for South Africa, began secretly to foment a full-scale war which would bring the wealth of the Boer lands completely into the Empire. The secret alliance between Milner and the "gold bugs" of Wernher-Beit gave Milner the backing needed to precipitate war. To hide his plans, the British Commissioner treacherously agreed to "negotiate" with Kruger over the status of the "uitlanders." Milner demanded immediate citizenship rights for the flood of foreigners who had poured into the Boer republics. President Paul Kruger responded with bitterness and anger: "It is our country you want!" The talks finally broke down, just as Milner had intended. Even after the war began, Milner did everything to prevent a compromise peace. Like the victorious powers of the Second World War, he insisted on unconditional surrender -- and he got it. During the phony "negotiations," Lord Kitchener, the famous British warlord, privately admitted to a friend that a major obstacle to complete British takeover was the fact that the Boers were "afraid of getting into the hands of certain people who no doubt wielded great influence in the country" (Pakenham, p. 51).Boer fears were well grounded. While the "negotiations" were underway, Wernher, Beit and Co. was secretly financing an "outlander" army of 1,500 which eventually grew to 10,000.
Growing war fever Milner Chamberlain Barnato Rhodes
Back in Britain, the leading newspapers, especially those owned by imperialists, pushed for war. The papers included the influential conservative organ, The Daily Telegraph, owned by Lord Burnham (born Edward Levy), Oppenheim's Daily News, Marks' Evening News, and Steinkopf's St. James Gazette (Hirshfeld, p. 4). Resistance in Britain to the growing orchestrated campaign of war hysteria came from the political left. The Social Democratic Federation (SDF), led by Henry M. Hyndman, was especially outspoken in its opposition to the war preparations. Justice, the SDF weekly, warned its readers in 1896 that "Beit and their fellow-s" were aiming for "an Anglo-Hebraic Empire in Africa stretching from Egypt to Cape Colony," designed to swell their "overgrown fortunes." Since 1890, the SDF had repeatedly cautioned against the pernicious influence of "capitalist s on the London press." When war broke out in 1899, Justice declared that the "Semitic lords of the press" had successfully propagandized Britain into a "criminal war of aggression" (Hirshfeld, pp. 5, 15). The boundless greed of the "gold bugs" coincided with the imperialistic schemes of British Colonial Secretary, the dreams of diamond speculator Cecil Rhodes, and the political ambitions of On the altar of their avarice and ambition, they sacrificed the lives of tens of thousands of people who wanted only to live in freedom.
The forced war
Britain dispatched troops to South Africa in preparation for war. Kruger gave an ultimatum demanding their withdrawal. After Britain refused, the Boer republics declared war. Although outnumbered, the morale of the Boer freedom fighter was good. He was fighting on territory he knew well. More importantly, he was fighting for his land, his freedom and his way of life. Mounted on horseback, he didn't look anything like a typical soldier. He wore a "uniform" of rough farming clothes. He usually had a long beard, wore a wide-brimmed hat, and slung belts of bullets over both shoulders. But after a year and a half o struggle, the Boers were forced to give up all large towns and main rail lines to the enemy. Still, they refused to capitulate and began a guerilla war against the occupation army. The Boer commandos, outnumbered about four to one, but supported by an entire people and striking without warning, were able to prevent the enemy from controlling the country he had occupied. Lord Kitchener, the British commander, now changed tactics to "clean up" a war which most considered already won. He ordered a new kind of war -- a war of total destruction and ruthlessness against a whole people. That meant destroying all livestock and crops, burning down the Boer farms and herding the women and children into concentration camps. Reports about these camps shocked the entire civilized world.
The British system of waging war was summarized in a report made in January 1902 by Boer General J.C. Smuts, later Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa: "Lord Kitchener has begun to carry out a policy in both (Boer) republic of unbelievable barbarism and gruesomeness which violates the most elementary principles of the international rules of war. "Almost all farmsteads and villages in both republics have been burned down and destroyed. All crops have been destroyed. All livestock which had fallen into the hands of the enemy has been killed or slaughtered. "The basic principle behind Lord Kitchener's tactics had been to win, not so much through direct operations against fighting commandos, but rather indirectly by bringing the pressure of war against defenseless women and children. "... This violation of every international law is really very characteristic of the nation which always plays the role of chosen judge over the customs and behavior of all other nations." Even in Britain, prominent voices began speaking out against the slaughter. Lloyd George, who later served as Prime Minister during the First World War, vehemently denounced the carnage. During a speech in Parliament on February 18, 1901, he quoted from a letter by a British officer: "We move from valley to valley, lifting cattle and sheep, burning and looting, and turning out women and children to weep in despair beside the ruin of their once beautiful homesteads." Lloyd George commented: "It is a war not against men, but against women and children." Another future Prime Minister, Henry Campbell-Bannerman, declared in Parliament on June 14, 1901: "When is a war not a war? When it is waged in South Africa by methods of barbarism." Michael Davitt even resigned as a member of the House of Commons in "personal and political protest against a war which I believe to be the greatest infamy of the nineteenth century."
Total destruction Livestock & crops Boer farms Concentration camps 27,927 Died of whom 22074 were children Emily Hobhouse
A crusading English lady, Emily Hobhouse, alerted the world to the horrors of the camps. "In some camps," she reported, "two and sometimes three different families live in one tent. Ten and even twelve persons are forced into a single tent." Most had to sleep on the ground. "These people will never ever forget what has happened," Hobhouse declared. "The children have been the hardest hit. They wither in the terrible heat and as a result of insufficient and improper nourishment. . . . To maintain this kind of camp means nothing less than murdering children."The British held 116,572 persons in their concentration camps, almost all of them women and children. That was about a fourth of the entire Boer population. After the war, and official government report concluded that 27,927 Boers had died in the camps of starvation, typhus and exposure. That included 26,251 women and children, of whom 22,074 were children under the age of 16. Emily Hobhouse found that none of their hardships, not even seeing their own hungry children die before their eyes, would shake the Boer women's determination. They "never express," Hobhouse wrote, "a wish that their men must give way. It must be fought out now, they think, to the bitter end."
Effects Today, the numbers of the Boerevolk are at least 3 million less that it would have been, had the English not committed genocide on the Boerevolk. This robs our people of our right to self-determination in the new so-called democratic system. (In truth, democracy means government by the people and not government by the rabble as is presently the case in South Africa.") The holocaust, together with treason committed by Afrikaners (take note: not Boere) such as Jan Smuts and Louis Botha, forced the Boerevolk to sign the peace accord of Vereeniging which deprived our volk of its freedom. The alien and inferior British culture was forced onto our people. The various indigenous peoples of South Africa were insensitively bundled into one Union without giving a thought to their respective identities and right to self-determination.As in the case of the Boerevolk, the local black nations were effectively robbed of their freedom, which gave rise to the establishment of the ANC in 1912 (two years after the foundation of the Union) to struggle for black nationalism. The British system of apartheid, which they applied all over the world (for instance also in India, Australia and New-Zealand), had to be imported to control the mixed population. The first manifestation of this were signs reading "Europeans" and "Non-Europeans". No Boer ever regarded himself as a "European". Apartheid invoked racial friction and even racial hatred which has in no means abated to this very day, and the bitter irony is that the Boerevolk, who had not been in power since 1902 and who also suffered severely under apartheid in the sense that apartheid robbed them of their land and their work-ethics, are being blamed for apartheid today. England's pretence for the invasion was the rights of the foreign miners. Yet after the war, these very same miners were treated so badly by their English and Jewish bosses that they had to resort to general strikes in 1913 and 1922 (3 and 12 years after the establishment of the British ruled Union), during which many mine-workers were shot dead in the streets of Johannesburg by the British disposed Union government. So much for the rights of the foreign miners under English rule. The efficient and equitable republican system of government of the Boer Republics was replaced with the unworkable Westminster system of government, which led to endless misery and conflict.
"Their only crime was that they stood between England and the gold of Transvaal."
Pillars of support Amidst all the misery brought upon our people by the English, there were pillars of support: firstly the certainty that our cause was just and fair and based upon faith. However, there also were people who made major sacrifices in an effort to ease the burden of Boer women and children. No study of the concentration camps could possibly be complete without mention of the name of Emily Hobhouse. This Cornish lady was a symbol of light and decency for Boer women and children. Emily Hobhouse did everything within her power to assist the women and children. As a result of her efforts to persuade the invaders towards an attitude of humanity and reason, she was banned from South Africa by the British authorities. However, the Boerevolk remains grateful towards Emily Hobhouse for her efforts and her remains are resting in a place of honor under the Women's Monument in Bloemfontein. Other people who spoke out against the barbaric methods of England were: J Ellis (Irish), Lloyd George (Welsh), CP Scott (Scottish), William Redmond (Welsh) and Ramsey McDonald (Scottish).
Africans Armed Rifles supplied to 10 000 marauding Blacks Defenceless women & children Overseen by Whitehall in London
Kitchener gave rifles to the native Bantus. The British eventually armed about 10,000 marauding Blacks, but the policy was kept secret from the people back home. No wonder. This was the first time in history that Europeans had given weapons to blacks with orders to kill fellow Whites. Although they proved poor soldiers, the primitive blacks murdered and slaughtered defenseless Boer women and children across the countryside. The fate of the women and children who escaped the living hell of the camps was often more horrible than that of those who did not. In his January 1902 report, General Smuts describes how the British recruited the Bantus: "In the Cape Colony the uncivilized Blacks have been told that if the Boers win, slavery will be brought back in the Cape Colony. They have been promised Boer property and farmsteads if they will join the English; that the Boers will have to work for the Blacks, and that they will be about to marry...
The Development of ApartheidSeparate Development 1865 - Removed from voters roll 1894 – Sport 1905 – Schools 1913 – Native Land Act 1927 – Interracial Marriage 1936 - Introduced in Parliament 1945 - Native Urban Area Act
A common misconception exists that the Afrikaners (Whites of West European descent who lived in southern Africa for 350 years) introduced the apartheid to South Africa when they assumed political power in 1948. This perception is widely promoted by Britain's liberal press, as well as the African National Congress, which now governs the country. The result is that Afrikaners are being demonized as not worthy of any form of self-determination, as they cannot be trusted with any power. It also serves to justify the ANC's policies of black economic empowerment and affirmative action. Part of the ownership of all businesses, including commercial farms, should in the future be handed to black partners. A ceiling is placed on white employment, as the labor market "...should reflect the demographic realities of the country as a whole..." These measures are justified on the moral grounds of rectifying the injustices of the past, but are nothing other than a redistribution of wealth, a common philosophy in African history and based on the premise of collective guilt, widely promoted by the international liberal establishment. Politicians refer to those measures as the 'cuckoo syndrome'. It must be remembered that South Africa became the Union of South Africa in 1910. After the Anglo Boer War, and up to 1910, the four colonies were governed directly by Whitehall in London. British Law was applicable to these colonies. The Union of South Africa was formed in 1910 as an autonomous state within the British Commonwealth.
The situation only changed in 1961 when South Africa left the Commonwealth and became the Republic of South Africa. In order to pin the responsibility for the evolution of apartheid on somebody, it would be an interesting exercise to take a helicopter snapshot of South Africa's racial policies to establish where or when the apartheid system of racial segregation really originated.- The Native Pass Law of 1809 was promulgated by the British Government, which required that every black person should carry an ID document, called a pass. Failure to do so was a criminal offence.- In 1865, the British Governor, Sir Theophilus Shepstone, ruled that black people in Natal shall not have the right to vote.- Apartheid in sport can be traced back to 1894 when Cecil John Rhodes prevented KromHendriks, a colored cricketer, to accompany the Cape team to England. - The South African Native Affairs Commission (SANAC) was appointed by Lord Milner in 1903 and published their findings in 1905. Scholars today recognize their recommendations as having laid the blue-print not only for the policies of racial segregation from 1910 to 1948, but also apartheid and separate development up to 1990.- Apartheid in the schools was introduced in 1905 when Rhodes introduced compulsory segregation of black and white children in Cape schools. No such laws existed in the two Boer Republics, where an easy relationship existed between the Afrikaner and the African, as children were largely home taught by their parents or visiting teachers.
- Lord Balfour, intervened in the house of Commons in London and warned about the dangers of extending the franchise to the 'natives' as the black community was known at the time. Chamberlain, Lord Milner, J.A. Froude, Anthony Trollope and Lord Bryce, among others, were dead-set against extending the franchise to the 'natives.' The South African colonies were to join the 'white' commonwealth in the form of the Union of South Africa to become 'a white man's country like Australia, Canada and New Zealand.- The South African Act, which was adopted by the British Government in 1907, determined that only persons of European descent may be elected to parliament in South Africa.- The infamous Native Land Act 2 of 1913 prohibited private ownership of land by black people. That is also the official cut-off date today for the land restitution process that is currently being implemented.- Minister H.W. Sampson introduced the concept of job reservation in the Mines and Industry act of 1925.- Interracial marriage or sex was prohibited between whites and others by the Natal Immorality Act of 1927. The Immorality act of 1957 was based on that act. -
General Smuts, then a leading light in the British Commonwealth, introduced separate representation of race groups in Parliament in 1936 so as to preserve the British dictate that South Africa shall be a white man's country. In that Act the blacks were removed from the common voters roll and the recommendations of the Lagden Commission were implemented, namely "separation of Black South Africans and White South Africans as voters". The term 'apartheid', was coined by Gen J.C. Smuts when he was Prime Minister, and not by Dr Verwoerd as politicians would have us believe.- During Smuts' last term of office he introduced the Native Urban Area Act 25 of 1945 which determined that a black person may not be present in a white area for longer that 72 hours without a permit. (Similar to the provision in Russia where a resident of one city needs a special permit or visa to visit another city, even today.)The concept of racial segregation was therefore firmly entrenched in South Africa after the Second World War when the National Party defeated the Pro-British United Party of General Smuts at the polls to become the new government.

Now, the blacks and liberals these days may want to try to fool themselves, but the Soweto uprisings, the attack on the Sharpeville Police station, etc were acts of war initiated by the ANC! The kind of revolution that the ANC and PAC tried to stir up in South Africa (which they never achieved) was a type of French Revolution where the blood would flow in the streets. They tried to light a fire in the hope that it would burn out of control. Their greatest success was the 1976 uprising. And to this day, they milk the 1976 uprising for everything they can get out of it.The ANC has a long history of exploiting innocent black children as cannon-fodder. In all the liberation struggles in Southern Africa, children were involved. So let us not kid ourselves. The ANC was making use of children as ‘child soldiers’ - a hideous crime, and which still carries on in much of Africa. Here, below is a cartoon, from Die Beeld at the time, depicting the abduction of black children at gunpoint by SWAPO in Namibia. Black children in Namibia and Rhodesia were abducted by gunpoint and led into neighbouring territories from whence they were sent to Tanzania, Libya and other countries in the Warsaw Pact, for military training as soldiers. School children were abducted and taken for communist indoctrination and training in terrorism and warfare. This practice was very common in Rhodesia as well. While the ANC did not actually abduct that many children in South Africa, they did instead use children to murder adults and to intimidate them. It was the ANC who had the slogan "liberation before education".
So let us not kid ourselves about the 1976 Soweto uprisings. These things were not just spontaneous events, as the ANC now claims. These were orchestrated acts intended to draw a response from the Apartheid government, which did react. And why? Well, these children were stoked up and were hell-bent on violence - and they were not just smashing things to bits, they were also killing people. This country was surrendered by President FW De Klerk, at CIA and MI6 prompting, before the ANC achieved a military victory. One of the main reasons was to protect the investments of British & American companies here. Another reason was so that through this "act of kindness", the CIA & MI6 would try to turn the ANC into a "moderate puppet" organization, whose strings they could pull so as to "moderate" it and keep it in the Western sphere of influence. The ANC was by no means in military control of this country. It was causing trouble and was able to spread terror in the townships, but the ANC was still decades, if ever, away from an outright military victory. This country was handed over on a plate to the blacks in the hope that they would be grateful - which they are not.Let me add too that the blacks are something like a dog which chases a car. The question is: What will the dog do if he catches the car? Well, the ANC have the car, and now they haven"t got the faintest clue how to drive it. So, like the dog, they stand around barking and mouthing off, hoping that maybe the car will drive itself! (This is also known as President Thabo Mbeki’s African Renaissance)
Let us set some facts straight here, which even FW De Klerk himself, Nobel Peace Prize winner that he is, has admitted publicly. De Klerk said that the blacks should be grateful that the whites handed over this country to their avowed enemies! He said it was a big step on the part of the whites. Indeed, it is an unprecedented step in history.Furthermore, blacks whine non-stop about a few hundred dead. They forget that whites here were armed to their teeth and could have killed them all. This country had nuclear weapons, and many tremendously advanced conventional weapons to protect it from outside intervention. If this had been a fight to the death, then black corpses would have littered every square foot of this country. That so few of them were killed attests to the tremendous restraint the Apartheid Government of this country had to the never-ending provocation and acts of outright terrorism. A friend of mine, who was one of those soldiers in the townships facing mobs of blacks hell-bent on violence, told me that he shot the rioters dead. He and others were there, with their rifles, and their commanding officer would point out the key agitators within the crowd and order the killing of a specific person. The soldier would then shoot the gang leader in the head. After the killing of a handful of key agitators, the crowd would panic and flee. They could have killed dozens or hundreds, but they did not. They tried, in a difficult situation, to do this with the least possible loss of life. The ANC was careful to portray this as an outright victory, and the whites were downplaying the strengths they still had. In fact, right up until the last moment, General ConstandViljoen had over 300,000 trained whites who could be expected to fight if he gave the order.

  • 19. 1895 – Jameson Raid 500 British adventurers tried to seize control of the Boer republics Sir Alfred Milner British High commissioner
  • 21. Conspiring for War Lord Kitchener Paul Kruger
  • 23. Growing war fever Milner Chamberlain Barnato Rhodes
  • 27.
  • 29. Total destruction Livestock & crops Boer farms Concentration camps 27,927 Died of whom 22074 were children Emily Hobhouse
  • 31.
  • 33. "Their only crime was that they stood between England and the gold of Transvaal."

  • 67. New South Africa Archbishop DesmonTutu: With the blood of thousands on his hands! “Just look what happens with a car hijacking. The scared owner hands over the keys and, for noearthlyreason, he or she is shot dead in cold blood for the sheer hell of it; utterly gratuitously, wantonly.” What hypocrisy! Of all ‘animals ‘, Mandela, Steve Biko, Desmond tutu... the list is endless, knows exactly how terrorism is effected in society. Their barbarism is always against the most vulnerable; the elderly, women and children .
