2. One publication that caught my eye was Athletics, this is because I have always
been a fan of football and most other sports from a young age. Of all the sporting
magazine Sports Illustrated caught my eye. The other magazines were good but
they all had similar designs. But, Sports Illustrated had a very different design, it
was new and it was different then most other sports magazines. This magazine
also had the best cover photos and design, mainly because they worked together,
they complimented each other with the color scheme. This magazines article
really grabbed my attention, mainly because I did not want Oregon to win the
College Football Playoffs, this magazine also had the best table of contents
because it was short and to the point, and the magazine had the best articles
because it is all the newest information about sports and the articles have inside
information from interviews with players.
3. • The trip to the newsstand was very educational. Not only
did I learn that there were a lot of other sports magazines
there. They were not only separated by genre, they were
also separated by sports. So there were rows of baseball
magazines and football magazines, even Olympic curling
magazines. The main thing that caught my eye was that
some of the magazines had the same central image,
which kind of confused me. So I learned to make sure my
image is not only original but also to make sure it is
different from the other magazines.
4. • This magazine was inspirational to me because I have
played sports for my entire life, so when this magazine it
gave me better ideas for my central image and cover
lines. This magazine also gave me more ideas on what to
write about, which will mostly be about high school
sports.
17. • This magazine was specifically about the College
Football Playoffs and how they concluded. This magazine
also featured the NFL playoffs, so this edition was mostly
about football. At the end of this magazine there was an
article about boxing. The target audience for this
magazine is men from ages 20-55.
18. • The central image of this magazine is generally an
athlete during a game, for this specific issue Ohio State
RB, Ezekiel Elliot, running into the end zone because he
was the games top performer.
• The photos are generally taken during the time of the
event, so one football field during a game or a basketball
layer taking a jump shot during the game.
• There are common elements for the central image, the
masthead is usually based off of the same idea and the
puffs and pugs, if there are any, are generally the same,
usually could be about subscribing or an inside story or
interview, also the cover lines are usually different
because they needs to fit with the central image.
19. • This cover image is my favorite because
this will be generally the type of photo I
will try to use for my magazine cover,
only it would be high school sports. This
cover is inspirational because it is
exactly what I am trying to do with my
magazine. The other magazine are
inspirational to me but this one really
caught my eye because all of the cover
lines are organized around the central
image instead of on one side, which is
what I would like to do.
23. • The table of contents have a lot on common, not only do
they have the same font and layout. They also have the
same general idea, but showing the name of the article, a
brief summary of the article, and they have the authors
name. The layout has about the same amount of white
space for each magazine, they also they have the same
type of setup. The set up is the page number then they
have the article underneath that. The articles from each
table of contents are also all separated by sport and by
experience- high school, college, or professional- so it is
easier to read and the magazine is more organized.
26. • The two page spreads that I used both have a lot in
common, besides being separate sports. The two
spreads not only start off with a attention grabbing title,
but also having charts about the matchups and pictures
of the previous matchup or from the current preparation
for the next matchup. These are more informal spreads,
the two spreads are more separated with more graphics
then the article. The covers if these issues have a player
from each of the two college matchups, the only
difference is the sport, so the picture for one cover is a
Ohio State football player, and the other is a picture of a
University of Florida basketball player.
