  2. 2. Definition :- Abnormal, involuntary, rapid, repetitive and purposeless contraction of a group of muscles involving face ,throat and shoulder
  3. 3. Incidence & Prevalence • Appear chronic as early 2 year to 21 year age • Common in Male ✔Prevalence rate is 0.5/1000 population
  4. 4. Causes : • Psychogenic - stress , tension producing behaviour • Neurogenic - complication of encephalitis • Family - tourette's disorder • Physiological - fatigue due to illness • Medical chronic disease
  5. 5. Classification 1. Motor tics 2. Vocal tics 3. complex tics
  6. 6. Motor tics a. Simple motor tics : as Eye blinking ,Grimace Throat cleaning a. Complex motor tics : gesture ,obscene acts
  7. 7. Vocal tics a. Simple vocal tics : Coughing,barking,throat cleaning b. Complex vocal tics : Echolalia,coprolalia
  8. 8. Complex tics • Gilles De la Tourette's syndrome : both motor and vocal tics present • Causes due to autosomal dominant disorder • Occur before age of 13 years
  9. 9. Diagnosis • E.E.G - abnormal evoked potential • Abnormal CT brain finding
  10. 10. Treatment • Drug therapy : Haloperidol ( 0.5 mg OD ) Pimozide ( 1- 10 mg OD ) Clonidine. (0.05 - 0.25mg OD) • Behaviour modification therapy • Individual and family counselling as adjunct therapy
