2. Verbs
• Shows state
• Shows occurance
• Performs the main part of the predicate of a sentence
Example
Look on the couch for the remote.

3. Singular Verbs
• Tim ties his shoes.
• Mattie combs her hair.
• Candace hops up and down.
• Sam does his chores.
• Lisa drives to the store.
• Lebron takes his nephew outside.
• Brandon flies to New York.
• A singular subject
takes on a singular
verb and a plural
subject takes on a
plural verb.

• A plural subject takes a plural verb.
• A singular subject ( she, bill, car)
takes a singular verb ( is, goes,
shines, and shines.)
• Example
• The list of items is/are on the desk.

• In the present tense in the third
person ( he, she ,it and they.)
• Singular subject verb stem plus S,
it fits, and he sits.
• Plural subject verb stem without S,
they sit, and they work.

6. How does Subject and Verb
Agree
• When using " Or" or "Nor" in a
compound subject containing a
singular and plural subject, the
verb agree with the closet
subject.
Example
My dog always growls at the
postal carrier.

If a subject is singular,
its verb must also be
singular; if a subject is
plural, its verb must also
be plural.
