How effective is the combination of your main product and ancilliary texts?
1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
2. For my main product I created a horror teaser trailer. For my ancillary tasks I created a film poster and the front page of a film magazine advertising our film. To make a synergy between the three texts it was very important to make links between them all. This ables the audience to make the connection between the two texts and the horror trailer.
3. To start with the texts all have the same name ‘Esther’ this is in the same font ‘Pulse’ on all the texts and in the trailer too. Also, the tag line in the trailer ‘She’s watching’ which is part of the closing titles in the trailer, is also used on the poster . This links the text with the trailer. This doesn’t just help with linking the tasks but it also makes the trailer more memorable.
4. The way in which the two texts connect is by the use of the same distinctive image. The images used is of the possessed girl in our trailer who is the main character but the image has been edited to have red eyes which makes this image scarier, memorable and stands out to the audience. This image is used on the poster and the magazine cover to help with linking the two and making it obvious that they connect. Another way to have made this more effective would have been to use this image somewhere within the trailer.
5. Also, the texts and the trailer link by keeping the same colour theme throughout. There was a pattern emerging when creating our trailer and two texts which was the use of the colours red, black and white. We chose these colours because these are typical horror colours. Red-Blood Black- not knowing White- stands out and creates a sense of innocence I feel this colour scheme is very effective and stands out. It also fits in with the horror genre and makes obvious to the audience not only what the genre is but also the links and connections between all the tasks.
