En los valores más bajos, basta la acción externa. Cuando se paga una
deuda no hace falta alegrase. Basta pagar. En los valores más altos, si
falta la adhesión interna, desaparece el valor. La Gratitud sin
sentimiento interno es mera fachada. A medida que se sube en la
escala se unifica la persona.
External action and internal bond.
In the lowest values, just the outward action. When paying a debt you
do not need to rejoice. Just pay. In the highest values, missing the
internal bond, the value disappears.Gratitude without inner feeling is

La palabra alma es muy corriente. Corresponde a anima en latín y
psique en griego. Pero aquí es mejor evitarla, ya Aristóteles la confundía
con la psique humana, y hasta asignaba alma a animal y vegetales.
Soul and spirit.
The word soul is very common. Corresponds to encourage Latin and
Greek psyche. But here is best avoided, as Aristotle confused with the

2. Autodominio.
Junto con Respeto y Justicia son los tres grandes valores
éticos. Los griegos empleaban la palabra Sofrosine y los
latinos Temperantia para este tercer gran valor ético.
Self-control.
Along with respect and fairness are the three great ethical
values. The Greeks used the word Temperantia sophrosyne
and Latinos to the third great ethical value.
Axiología.
Es la ciencia de los valores. Axios en griego es lo digno o
noble, y logos ciencia o conocimiento. Ética es uno de los
cuatro grandes ámbitos de valores: económicos, éticos,
estéticos y religiosos. Pero es el más estudiado y discutido.
Axiology.
It is the science of values. Axios in Greek is worthy or noble,
and logos science or knowledge. Ethics is one of the four
major areas of values: economic, ethical, aesthetic and
religious. But it is the most studied and discussed.
3. AGNOSTICISMO: Actitud que niega la posibilidad de un
determinado conocimiento (agnosticismo metafísico,
valorar, etcétera). Se dice eminentemente en lo que se
refiere al conocimiento de la existencia de Dios. Los
agnósticos en ese sentido no niegan, como los ateos, la
existencia de Dios, sino sólo el que pueda ser conocido
sensible, racionalmente o de cualquier otra forma.
Agnosticism: attitude that denies the possibility of certain
knowledge (metaphysical agnosticism, value-related,
etc.). It basically says in regard to knowledge of the
existence of God. The agnostic in that sense not deny, as
atheists, the existence of God, but only can be known
sensible, rational or otherwise.

BEHAVIORISMO: Teoría psicológica moderna (J. B. Watson), según la cual sólo la
conducta exterior o comportamiento (behaviour) y el método extrospectivo son
válidos científicamente enpsicología, excluyendo por subjetivo y no
comprobable a la introspección o descripción de los fenómenos anímicos
propios.
Behavior: modern psychological theory (JB Watson), that only the external behavior

BONDAD (lat. bonum, bonitas): En su sentido más inmediato dícese de la acción
humana (voluntaria) cuando se ajusta a las normas de su rectitud o moralidad.
Derivadamente de este sentido se aplica a las personas que realizan
habitualmente el bien (que son buenas o poseen bondad). En un segundo
sentido ontológico cítase la bondad entre las nociones trascendentales (vid.
TRASCENDENTALES), que poseen la misma extensión que el ser. La bondad
destaca en el ser (en todo ser) su deseabilidad por una voluntad que rectamente
lo apetezca. Todo ser, en lo que tiene de ser, es perfeccionador de algo o de
alguien por la ley de armonía que preside al Cosmos y hace a los seres
mutuamente perfectibles y perfeccionadores.
Kindness (Latin bonum, pretty): In its most immediate sense said of human action
(voluntary) if it conforms to the standards of righteousness or morality. Derived
from this sense applies to people who usually do the good (they are good or have
goodness). In a second sense ontological goodness cítase between
transcendental notions (cf. Transcendental), which have the same size as the
self. Goodness be highlighted in the (whole being) the desirability of a will which
honestly I want. Everyone, in what has to be, is the perfection of something or
someone by the law of harmony that presides over the cosmos and each other
makes men perfected and perfecting.
5. BELLO (lat. pulchrum): Noción muy amplia que en la antigüedad
significaba una armonía o proporción de elementos (variedad en la
unidad) acompañada de cierta grandeza y claridad que hacían al
objeto bello fácilmente intuible o inteligible. Cabía distinguir entre lo
bello como manifestación del bien moral (una bella acción, una
bella persona), como clara manifestación de la verdad, como
perfección sensible o como perfección expresiva. Su reducción al
objeto puramente estético es posterior y se relaciona con las
corrientes subjetivistas del gusto.
BELLO (lat. pulchrum): very broad notion in antiquity meant a harmony
or proportion of items (variety in the unit) together with a certain
grandeur and clarity that made the beautiful object easily intuited
or intelligible. Could distinguish between beauty as a manifestation
of the moral good (a beautiful action, a beautiful person), as a clear
manifestation of the truth, as perfect as perfection sensitive or
expressive. Reduced to a purely aesthetic object is later and is
related to the currents of subjectivism of taste.
BEATITUD (lat. beatitudo): Estado de felicidad cumplida o perfecta
concomitante a la posesión contemplativa y afectiva de Dios

No es un concepto ético, sino psicológico y hasta fisiológico. Se
trata de las tendencias o preferencias, sobre todo psíquicas de

Causalidad.

7. Coacción jurídica.
La violación de los valores éticos más bajos -Respeto y
Justicia- destruye los cimientos de la sociedad. Para
sobrevivir, ésta se defiende mediante un Derecho Penal
que implica obviamente coacción o uso de la fuerza.
Legal coercion.
The violation of ethical values lower-Respect and Justice

Culpabilidad.
Igual a responsabilidad de los anti valores éticos. Se usa
también culpa. Ver Responsabilidad e Imputabilidad.

8. COMPASION (lat. conmiseratio): Participación en el dolor
de otros, en tanto que dolor o sufrimiento. Como
elemento afectivo concomitante a la caridad se
valora en el cristianismo. Kant, en cambio, considera a
la compasión ajena al orden moral. Los estoicos y
Espinosa (panteístas) la rechazan como opuesta a la
comprensión racional del mundo. Nietzsche la incluye
en "la moral de los débiles".
COMPASSION (lat. conmiseratio): Participation in the pain
of others, whereas pain or suffering. Concomitant
emotional element to charity is valued in
Christianity. Kant, however, considers the compassion of
others to the moral order. The Stoics and Espinosa
(pantheistic) reject as opposed to rational
understanding of the world. Nietzsche's included in "the
moral of the weak."

Deber-ser ético.
Es captado en la intuición axiológica como obligatorio. Los valores éticos
son obligatorios porque que son generalizables. Si todos los vivieran, todos
ganarían y nadie perdería. Violar un valor ético es siempre hacer daño,
poco o mucho que sea. Toda violación ética es culpable. Si un deber-ser es
verdaderamente tal, no puede quedar frustrado para siempre. Antes o
después, de un modo u otro acabará imponiéndose sobre la realidad que
lo contradice.
Must-be ethical.
Is captured in the axiological intuition as required. Ethical values are required
because they are generalizable. If all live, all gain and no one lost. Violating
an ethical value is always hurt, little or much that is. All ethical violation is
guilty. If a must-be is truly such, can not be frustrated forever. Sooner or later,
one way or another will eventually be imposed on the reality that contradicts
it.
Deontología.
Se refiere al deber-ser. A veces se considera el valor como distinto del
deber- ser y la Deontología como distinta de la Axiología, o de la Etica en
particular. La esencia del valor es justamente su deber-ser. Valor y deber- ser
son lo mismo
Ethics.
It refers to what ought to be. It is sometimes considered as distinct value of
duty-being and Ethics as distinct from the Axiology, or ethics in particular. The
essence of value is just the must-be. Value and must-be are the same
10. DEMOCRACIA: Gobierno del común de la población por medio de
representantes o en asamblea directa. Aristóteles la cita entre las tres formas
rectas de gobierno (monarquía, aristocracia, democracia), si bien es más
propia de pequeñas comunidades, donde es más posible el conocimiento
mutuo de los ciudadanos. El concepto moderno (pos revolucionario) de
democracia difiere del antiguo, por cuanto supone que el origen -y no solo
el ejercicio- del poder y sus normas brotan de la voluntad del pueblo.
DEMOCRACY: Government of ordinary people through their representatives or
direct assembly. Aristotle quoted lines between the three forms of
government (monarchy, aristocracy, democracy), but is more suited to small
communities, where possible mutual understanding of citizens. The modern
concept (post revolutionary) differs from the old democracy, because it
assumes that the origin-and-exercise not only of power and its rules spring
from the will of the people.
DERECHO (lat. jus): En su sentido subjetivo, poder de hacer, poseer algo o no ser
coaccionado en algo, de acuerdo con una norma de rectitud. En sentido
objetivo, la norma misma (natural o positiva) en cuanto crea un ámbito de
derechos y deberes que hacen posible la coexistencia humana. Se llama
también derecho a la ciencia que trata del mismo. Los tres sentidos se
pueden encontrar en esta frase: "Yo tengo derecho, según derecho, a
estudiar Derecho".
LAW (Latin jus): In its subjective sense, able to do, have something or not being
coerced into something, according to a standard of righteousness. In the
objective sense, the standard itself (natural or positive) about establishing a
sphere of rights and duties that make human coexistence possible. It is also

Emotivismo.
Teoría que confunde lo valioso o que debe-ser con las
emociones o la psique. Pero las emociones ya son, no están
nunca en la situación de deber-ser y no ser aún, que es lo que
tipifica y define al valor.
Emotivism.

the psyche. But emotions are already, they are never in the
situation of must-be and not be even, which is what
characterizes and defines the value.
Empirismo.
Teoría filosófica general, que aplicada a la Ética se viene a
confundirse con el Emotivismo.
Empiricism.
General philosophical theory, when applied to ethics has been
confused with the Emotiv.
13. Equidad.
Tiene varias significaciones entre los autores. Pero aquí se toma
por Justicia particular o dar lo debido a la persona concreta.
Equity.
It has several meanings among authors. But here is taken by
Justice particular or to give what is due to the individual.
Eudemonismo.
La felicidad está en vivir los valores éticos. Se suele emplear la
palabra virtud. Pero los momentos de auténtica felicidad son
tipo estético. La virtud sólo da la conciencia tranquila de la
obligación cumplida. Eso es un presupuesto para la felicidad,
pero no la felicidad misma. Eudemonismo es una axiología
mutilada: ética sin estética.
Eudaemonism.
Happiness is to live ethical values. It is usually used the word
virtue. But the moments of real happiness are an aesthetic
nature. Virtue gives only the conscience of the obligation
fulfilled. That is a budget for happiness, but happiness
itself. Eudaemonism is a mutilated axiology: ethics without
aesthetics.
14. EIDETICO: Término de Husserl para designar lo referente a las
esencias de las cosas, cuya investigación es el objeto del
método fenomenológico.
Eidetic: Husserl's term to designate as regards the essence of
things, whose research is the subject of the
phenomenological method.

Fariseísmo.
Violación de la ley de la fuerza. Pretender alcanzar los valores
más altos sin vivir los más bajos.
Pharisaism.
Violation of the law of force. Hope to achieve the highest values
without experiencing the lowest.
Finalidad.
Principio que rige el mundo de los valores y la libertad. Opuesto
a causalidad, que rige el mundo llamado de la naturaleza
causal y en el que va incluida la psique humana .
Purpose.
Principle governing the world of values and freedom. Opposite
causality, which governs the world called the causal nature and
that is including the human psyche.
16. FORMA: Dentro de la teoría HILEMORFISTA (vid.), defínese la forma
sustancial como "un principio activo, causa u origen de las
perfecciones específicas de un ser, y principio de inteligibilidad". Los
escolásticos distinguían también formas accidentales. Se opone a
materia prima (vid. MATERIA), y, unida a ésta, da lugar a la sustancia
primera o ser material concreto. En Kant, forma se opone a contenido,
y es una estructura a priori ordenadora, radicada en la Razón pura.
METHOD: Within hylomorphic theory (qv), defínese substantial form as "an
active, cause or origin-specific perfections be, and the principle of
intelligibility." The Scholastics distinguished also by accident. Opposes
material (cf. MATTER), and, together with this, results in the primary
substance or material being concrete. In Kant, as opposed to content,
and is a priori ordering structure, based on pure reason.

Gregarismo.
Disuelve la persona en la sociedad. Pero la sociedad es un medio para
el engrandecimiento valioso de la persona, y nunca al revés .

GRACIA: Don gratuito, no debido ni merecido. En teología, un don
sobrenatural que eleva nuestra condición a hijos de Dios y nos ayuda

GRACE: free gift, not because undeserved. In theology, a supernatural gift

GUSTO: Criterio subjetivo de apreciación de la belleza o de cuanto toca al

conflicto ni aun en caso de guerra. Ello es origen de que el
término haya evolucionado a Derecho Internacional.
PEOPLE (Law) (Lat. jus gentium): That part of positive law, for the
most general or proximity to natural law, it is common to all
human laws (or all presuppose). Therefore, is what is not in
conflict even in case of war. This is the origin of the term has
evolved in international law.

En general, niega el concepto de persona como algo estable. En Etica
niega que haya valores objetivos. Confunde lo que debe-hacerse con
lo que se hace de hecho en las diversas épocas y pueblos.
Historicism.

objective values. Confuses what should-be done with what is actually in
the various epochs and peoples.
Humanismo.
El verdadero humanismo está en la vivencia de todos los valores. Los

IDEA (lat. idea): Puede entenderse este término en cuatro sentidos: a)
Como universal intuible -o inteligible- en una pluralidad de objetos. b)
Como el resultado de la abstracción (universal en la mente), que recibe
m s propiamente el nombre de concepto. c) En sentido platónico:
como arquetipo o modelo de las cosas de este mundo, subsistente en
un mundo inteligible. d) En un sentido moderno: como cualquier acto o
producto del pensamiento (en Locke y los empiristas especialmente).

OBJETIVIDAD: Condición de lo que es objeto, como opuesto a lo subjetivo (vid.

covenant, and so on
OCASIONALISMO: Teoría sostenida por Malebranche en la que se atribuye a
Dios toda causalidad eficiente, haciendo de las criaturas sólo ocasión para
el ejercicio de dicha causalidad.
OCCASIONALLY: Theory supported by Malebranche in which it attributes to God
all efficient causality, making creatures only occasion for the exercise of that
causality.
OLIGARQUIA: Gobierno ejercido por unos pocos. Se considera corrupción de la
ARISTOCRACIA (vid.), gobierno de los mejores.

Platonismo.
Tiene dos acepciones. Primera, confusión inaceptable de lo bueno con

deja en el aire la victoria final del bien sobre el mal o que todo deber-

hacer, física o técnicamente, se puede hacer éticamente. En español falta la distinción
del inglés entre to can y to might, o entre können y mögen en alemán.
Respect.
The lowest value, strong, urgent or priority of ethics. Not everything can be done
physically or technically, can be done ethically. In Spanish English lacks the distinction
between can and to Might to or from mögen können and German.

Consecuencia de la libertad en sentido positivo. De la libertad
positiva nace única y exclusivamente el valor o antivalor de una

RAZON (lat. ratio): Facultad distintiva del hombre (animal racional)

36. Subsidiaridad.
Valor ético que regula los tamaños de los deferentes poderes públicos. Sólo
en Estética la prioridad está a favor de la organización más pequeña. En
Etica es al revés: en caso de duda la preferencia hay que darla a la
organización más grande. Es un error dar la prioridad por principio y siempre
a la entidad social más pequeña.
Subsidiarity.
Ethical value that regulates the size of government deferens. Aesthetic only
priority is for the smallest organization. In Ethics is reversed: in case of doubt
preference is to give it to the larger organization. It's a mistake to give the first
priority and always on the smallest social entity.
SABIDURIA (lat. sapientia): Conocimiento de las cosas que produce en el sujeto
un recto y ponderado juicio para la dirección de la vida (vid. PRUDENCIA).
En el ideal del sabio se cifra el objetivo de algunos sistemas morales, como el
estoicismo y el epicureismo.
WISDOM (Latin sapientia): Knowledge of the things that occur in the subject a
weighted trial straight to the direction of life (cf. CAUTION). In the ideal figure
of the wise is the purpose of some moral systems, such as Stoicism and
Epicureanism.
SALVACION: Liberación de un mal que amenaza a un hombre -en su cuerpo o
en su alma-, o a un pueblo. Logro de la bienaventuranza eterna.

Transcendencia.
En Axiología es la victoria final del bien sobre el mal o que todo deber-ser llegue
realmente a ser. Implica reducir a la nada los antivalores éticos. Eso sólo puede hacerlo
el Juez invocado por Kant (tercer postulado). La unidad de todos los valores es también
un valor. Este Valor de los Valores es lo que se suele denominar con la palabra Dios.
Transcendence.
In Axiology is the ultimate victory of good over evil or that all must-be gets to really
be.Involves reducing the negative values to nothing unethical. That only can the judge
relied on by Kant (third postulate). The unity of all values is also a value. The Value of
Values is what is often referred to with the word God.

consistente en estar todo en el espacio y en cualquiera de sus partes.

UNIT (Latin unitas): What is in itself one and indivisible. The living being is
individual, owns, and eminently God, whose plurality would be contrary
to its essence. In general, it is said everything has an identity with itself,
hence it is considered this notion as Transcendental (qv).
UNO (lat. unus): Elemento de un grupo o clase cualquiera. Lo que es único,
como al decir "Dios es uno". Lo mismo que UNIDAD (vid.). Nombre dado
por Plotino a Dios en cuanto principio por emanación y superación de
los contrarios.

Valores afectivos.
No existen. Los afectos pertenecen a la psique. En sí mismos no
son ni buenos ni malos, pero hay que controlar los afectos, para
que coincidan con los valores, sobre todo de Respeto y
Autodominio.
Affective values.
None. The affections belong to the psyche. In themselves are
neither good nor bad, but you have to control emotions, to
coincide with the values, especially respect and self-control.
Valores de lo agradable sensible.
Expresión de Scheler. No existen como valores propios. Las
sensaciones sensibles pertenecen a la psique. Pueden verse
como valores económicos, de cosas o derivados.
How nice sensible values.
Expression of Scheler. There are no such values. The sensitive
feelings belong to the psyche. Can be seen as economic values
of things or products.
42. Valores ascéticos.
Conexión, en el fondo incomprensible, entre sufrimiento y antivalores éticos. Es el
sufrimiento aceptado por las propias faltas, o incluso el sufrimiento inocente ofrecido
por las faltas ajenas. La felicidad estética sólo es posible si están saldadas las deudas
éticas. Es la esfera de los Valores religiosos. El triunfo del bien sobre el mal sólo cabe si el
valor del sufrimiento anula los antivalores éticos, llamados vulgarmente pecados.
Ascetic values.
Connection, basically incomprehensible, between suffering and anti-ethical. Suffering is
accepted by his own faults, or even innocent suffering offered by the faults of
others.Aesthetic happiness is possible only if the debts are settled ethical. Is the sphere of
religious values. The triumph of good over evil is only possible if the value of suffering
reverses the ethical-values, commonly called sins.
Valores de personas y de cosas.
Los valores están propiamente en las acciones humanas, en las personas. Las cosas no
deben ser y no ser aun, ya son. Pero pueden convertirse en valores económicos o
derivados, como medios adecuados para valores propios en cuanto fines.
Values of people and things.
The values are properly in human actions in people. Things should not be and not be
even, they already are. But they can become economic values or derivatives, as
appropriate to their own values as ends.
Valores económicos.
Igual que valores derivados, de cosas o medios adecuados para fines valiosos en sí
mismos. Son valores subjetivos. Igual que les damos valor, se lo quitamos, si falla su
utilidad hacia fines valiosos.
Economic values.
As derivative securities, of things or appropriate means to valuable ends in
themselves. Are subjective values. Just as we value them, we take away, if it fails to end
its utility value.

YO (lat. ego): Pronombre por el que el hombre se designa a sí
mismo, y que ha tomado un sentido filosófico (el Yo) desde que
Descartes, al replantear la filosofía, partió de la realidad del
propio pensamiento como revelador de la propia existencia (de
la sustancia del Yo) y como verdad indubitable. El Yo como
sujeto pensante se opondrá, en el sistema de Fichte, al No-Yo,
iniciando así lo que, en Hegel, sería el proceso dialéctico.
I (Lat. ego): Pronoun by the man himself is appointed and has taken
a philosophical sense (the I) since Descartes, to rethink the
philosophy started from the reality of thoughts as a developer
of existence (of the substance of the self) and as indubitable
truth. The self as thinking subject shall oppose, in the system of
Fichte, the Not-I, thus initiating what, in Hegel, it is the dialectical
process.
