1. Digital Graphic Narrative Planning
Use this booklet to help structure your planning and collate your planning documents.
Considerations:
There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to show you have thought about each one. You
should imagine that this is a live project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought about in that
context rather than just as a college project.
Costs:
The book will be priced at around £5. Most of the equipment involved is not expensive; the initial cost of
Adobe Photoshop and a scanner is the only real consideration. Other equipment used only ranges from
standard office stationary.
Available resources:
-Adobe Photoshop
-Photo scanner
2. Quantity:
As the book is being sold at such a low price, a large batch should be made to account for this. The book will
not be mass produced, but one or two single batches will be made depending on the success of the original
batch.
Audience and Target Market:
My book is targeted at a very young audience. Children of both genders under the age of 5. The book is not
very class orientated what so ever, and I believe children of all classes will enjoy it.
Quality Factors:
To ensure I produce the best quality of work I will use peer feedback to assist me when something needs
improving. I will also carefully evaluate every aspect of the book. I can do this by constantly comparing pages
to each other to guarantee a high level of work through the entire book.
Codes of Practice:
3. Regulation:
To be sure my book is sold at a high standard, I will drive my product through every control regulation. Form
the obscene publications act of 1959 to the equality act of 2010. And of course the product will need to be
inspected and certified by the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC.
Copyright:
My work is completely of my own invention. Therefore there should be no issues with copyright.
Ethical Issues:
The book I have created is in no way offensive, and I can see no way in which any aspect of the book could
be offensive or cause anyone to feel there is a problem. As the book will feature animals with no
representations to real people or figures.
4. Resources:
A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which
you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project.
If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production.
Resource:
Do you have
it? What do you need to do to get it?
Adobe Photoshop Yes
Internet access Yes
A photo scanner Yes
General stationary and drawing
equipment Yes
Final script Yes
Flat Plans Yes
Mind map Yes
5. Production Schedule:
Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in
to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will
also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work
faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.

11. Health and safety:
Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in industry, an accident could prevent you from
working. Whilst we don’t work in a highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as trips and
spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back problems, may affect you much later in life.
Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project. Explain how you could prevent them from
happening.
Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at work.
Health and Safety Issue How can you prevent it?
Damage to back and posture, form long times at desks.
Before beginning work, be sure the chair is correctly
adjusted to give safe and correct posture.
Trips and general office related accidents.
It is very important for the working environment to be kept
neat and clear. This will help prevent accidents when
moving around, especially if the room is crowded.
Injury to eyes and overworking causing stress.
Be sure to take regular breaks, giving your eyes a chance
to recover from straining at a close monitor.
12. Overloading of a plug socket and other electrical issues.
Only one plug for on socket is a safe way to prevent
electrical breakdowns and socket overloads. This is
important as an overloaded socket can cause fires. Be
sure to carefully read the instructions when installing a
new electrical product.
