EVALUATION QUESTION 3 – WHAT
HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
2. I believe that the audience feedback that I received
over the course of my media project for A2 has been
instrumental in helping to shape my final products to
reflect real-life media texts of a professional standard.
Listening to the feedback from the target audience that
we were pursuing and peers around us who had no
prior attachment to our video helped to improve from
my rough first drafts of my media products to the final
versions.
3. At the beginning of the course, when I was originally considering the idea of
choosing the indie genre to base my media products a round, I created a
questionnaire and asked 20 people around my school to answer the questions as
followed, half of those in the sample being in the age group that I wanted to obtain
of my target audience. The results of this questionnaire showed that, whilst 12/20
people I asked did not regularly watch music videos, 17 were interested in the
indie genre and would watch a music video of the indie genre. This inspired me to
use indie music as my chosen genre as I found that there was clearly a market for
this genre amongst people both included in my target audience and those not
included.
4. Following on from this, after releasing the first cut of
the music video, the general consensus was
overwhelmingly positive. However, on asking my peers
about if they had any issues with the first cut, some
stated that they found it hard to understand certain
parts of the narrative. Upon asking them to elaborate
on this further, many stated that certain shots within
the video confused them as to the events of the
narrative. After hearing this feedback, we made an
effort to reshoot certain shots to make them clearer for
our audience, and reach the standards of a
professional music video.
6. Additionally, audience feedback was essential in aiding
the creation of the front cover of my digipak. I asked
several of my peers with no emotional attachment to
the project which of my album cover images that they
preferred. The majority of those that I asked stated
that they preferred the one that I believed followed the
conventions of the indie music genre the best.
However, it was also suggested that I change the title
of my album from ‘SYMMETRICAL’ to ‘YOUTH IN
REVOLT’ as it was felt that the latter title fitted in
better with the themes that I had already established
within my product.
8. Overall, I feel that the audience feedback that I have
received has been incredibly helpful and reliable in
contributing to my final products. I feel that all that
have given feedback have increased the knowledge of
the conventions of the indie genre that I had already
obtained from my research and helped to ensure that
my final products have layers of realism to them that
reflect real-life media texts.
