Cultural Heritage - DEFINITION
              (Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, art. 10)


1. Immovable and movable works of art publicly owned and no-profit
private corporations, including ecclesiastical entities, who have artistic,
historical, archaeological or ethno-anthropological interest.

2. Cultural Heritage include as well:
a)collections of museums, art galleries, galleries of public property
b) archives and single documents of public property;
c) library collections of public property.

               (Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, art. 10)

3. Moreover are also intended as cultural heritage, according to the statement
(...):
a) the immovable and movable goods with artistic, historical, archaeological or
ethno-anthropological heritage of private property;
b) the archives and single documents, belonging to individuals, having a relevant
historical interest;
c) book collections of outstanding cultural interest belonging to private individuals;
d) ) the immovable and movable goods, belonging to anyone, which are of
particular interest because of their reference to the political, military, literature,
art, science, technology, industry and culture in general or as evidence of identity
and history of public institutions, or religious group;
e) collections or series of objects belonging to anyone, which are not rewards
among those included in paragraph 2 and which, by tradition, reputation and
particular environmental characteristics, or for artistic, historical, archaeological,
numismatic or ethno-anthropological relevance, are of exceptional interest as a
whole.

  »... immovable and movable goods of artistic, historical, archaeological or
                     ethno-anthropological interest …»:

•things regarding paleontology, prehistory and early civilizations;
•things of numismatic interest:
•manuscripts, autographs, letters, incunabula, and books, prints and engravings, with
their respective plates
•maps and sheet music;
•photographs, with their negatives and matrices, films and audiovisual media in general;
•villas, parks and gardens with artistic or historical interest;
•public squares, streets, roads, and other urban open spaces of artistic or historical
interest;
•mining sites of historical or ethno-anthropological relevance;
•ships and floating with artistic, historical or ethno-anthropological interest;
•rural architectures having historical or ethno-anthropological concern.

   «…… maintenance and restoration of movable
  cultural and architectural heritage of decorated
surfaces are performed exclusively by those who are
   restorers of cultural property under the law».

The professionals in Restoration
The D.M. May 26, 2009, n. 86 defines the competency profiles of the
restorers and other technicians engaged in activities complementary to the
restoration or conservation of cultural heritage. It identifies 3 profiles


•Restorer on Cultural Heritage
•Technician for restoration
   («assistant conservator of cultural heritage»)
•Technician for the restoration of cultural
heritage with specific responsibilities

Restorer on Cultural Heritage
                   (D.M. 26 may 2009, n. 86 - art. 1)

The restorer on Cultural Heritage is the professional who defines the
state of conservation and implements a set of direct and indirect
actions to limit the degradation processes of the constituent
materials of the goods to preserve their condition thus maintaining
their cultural value. To this end, as part of a coherent and
coordinated program of conservation, the restorer analyzes the data
relating to the constituent materials, to the technique of execution
and to the state of conservation of the items and evaluate them;
designs and supervises interventions for the part of his competence;
performs directly preservation and restoration actions; directs and
coordinates the other operators involved in activities
complementary to the restoration. He carries out research, testing
and teaching in the field of conservation.

Restorer on Cultural Heritage
                             (art. 29)


The qualification of restorer is obtained as a result of
    a five-year course of study in schools of higher
education set up under the Ministry of Heritage and
Cultural Activities or through agreements between the
ministry, regions and universities, that is by bodies
recognized by the State;
  a final exam qualifying for the profession, with the
value of State examination;
the Academic qualification issued by these schools is
equivalent to a five-year Advanced degree.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS REGIONALLY OR NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TO THE
               PERFORMANCE OF TRAINING OF RESTORERS
Technician for restoration on Cultural
                 Heritage
                 (D.M. 26 may 2009, n. 86 - art. 2)

Professional who cooperates with the restorer performing,
with autonomous decision-making strictly relating to his
technical skills, certain direct and indirect actions to limit
the degradation processes and to preserve items, in such a
way to guarantee for the correct execution according to
methodological and operational indications and under the
direction and control of the restorer. (....)

Technician for restoration on Cultural
                 Heritage
         (Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, art. 29)


The qualification is obtained as a result of a
     three-year course of study, in state or regional
post-diploma training schools, or a
     Three-year University Diploma in Technology for
the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage,
or a
     Diploma in Restoration at the Academy of Fine
Arts with at least three years of study.

The profile will be further defined by administrative
measures, on a proposal of the Regions.

Technician for the restoration of cultural
   heritage with specific responsibilities
               (D.M. 26 may 2009, n. 86 - art. 3)


They are technical-vocational or artisan professionals
contributing to accomplish the interventions of
conservation, performing various processing steps to
support technical actions, with limited autonomous
decision-making and under the direction and control of the
restorer of cultural heritage.

The profile will be further defined by administrative
measures, on a proposal of the Regions.

  • 3. Cultural Heritage - DEFINITION (Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, art. 10) 1. Immovable and movable works of art publicly owned and no-profit private corporations, including ecclesiastical entities, who have artistic, historical, archaeological or ethno-anthropological interest. 2. Cultural Heritage include as well: a)collections of museums, art galleries, galleries of public property b) archives and single documents of public property; c) library collections of public property.   • 4. Cultural Heritage- DECLARATION (Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, art. 10) 3. Moreover are also intended as cultural heritage, according to the statement (...): a) the immovable and movable goods with artistic, historical, archaeological or ethno-anthropological heritage of private property; b) the archives and single documents, belonging to individuals, having a relevant historical interest; c) book collections of outstanding cultural interest belonging to private individuals; d) ) the immovable and movable goods, belonging to anyone, which are of particular interest because of their reference to the political, military, literature, art, science, technology, industry and culture in general or as evidence of identity and history of public institutions, or religious group; e) collections or series of objects belonging to anyone, which are not rewards among those included in paragraph 2 and which, by tradition, reputation and particular environmental characteristics, or for artistic, historical, archaeological, numismatic or ethno-anthropological relevance, are of exceptional interest as a whole. May 26, 2009, n. 86 defines the competency profiles of the restorers and other technicians engaged in activities complementary to the restoration or conservation of cultural heritage. Restorer on Cultural Heritage (D.M. 26 may 2009, n. 86 - art. 1) The restorer on Cultural Heritage is the professional who defines the state of conservation and implements a set of direct and indirect actions to limit the degradation processes of the constituent materials of the goods to preserve their condition thus maintaining their cultural value. To this end, as part of a coherent and coordinated program of conservation, the restorer analyzes the data relating to the constituent materials, to the technique of execution and to the state of conservation of the items and evaluate them; designs and supervises interventions for the part of his competence; performs directly preservation and restoration actions; directs and coordinates the other operators involved in activities complementary to the restoration. Restorer on Cultural Heritage (art. 29) The qualification of restorer is obtained as a result of a five-year course of study in schools of higher education set up under the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities or through agreements between the ministry, regions and universities, that is by bodies recognized by the State; a final exam qualifying for the profession, with the value of State examination; the Academic qualification issued by these schools is equivalent to a five-year Advanced degree.      QUALIFICATION OF THE RESTORER IN ITALY QUALIFICATION OF THE RESTORER IN ITALY

  • 11. EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS REGIONALLY OR NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TO THE PERFORMANCE OF TRAINING OF RESTORERS
  • 12. Technician for restoration on Cultural Heritage (D.M. 26 may 2009, n. 86 - art. 2) Professional who cooperates with the restorer performing, with autonomous decision-making strictly relating to his technical skills, certain direct and indirect actions to limit the degradation processes and to preserve items, in such a way to guarantee for the correct execution according to methodological and operational indications and under the direction and control of the restorer. Technician for restoration on Cultural Heritage (Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, art. 29) The qualification is obtained as a result of a three-year course of study, in state or regional post-diploma training schools, or a Three-year University Diploma in Technology for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, or a Diploma in Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts with at least three years of study. The profile will be further defined by administrative measures, on a proposal of the Regions. QUALIFICATION OF THE RESTORER IN ITALY QUALIFICATION OF THE RESTORER IN ITALY

Technician for the restoration of cultural heritage with specific responsibilities (D.M. 26 may 2009, n. 86 - art. 3) They are technical-vocational or artisan professionals contributing to accomplish the interventions of conservation, performing various processing steps to support technical actions, with limited autonomous decision-making and under the direction and control of the restorer of cultural heritage.
