2. Social Studies Learning Standards
The K-12 Social Studies Learning Standards consist
of Essential Academic Learning Requirements
(EALRs) and Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) that
describe what students should know and be able to
do in civics, economics, geography, history and social
study skills.
3. Cooperative Learning- learners may then work
collaboratively to solve problems using a variety of
references sources.
If a unit has been initiated properly, pupils may
have been challenged in the asking of questions.
Working on COMMITTEES can be beneficial for
pupils since they may select the topic or problems
they would want to work on most.

Reading from the Basal Textbook- Here, pupils may read to
secure information for problem solving.
• They might also read to extend knowledge such as reading to
learn more about the topics that were discussed.
• Pupils might also read to secure vital facts.
• Pupils should learn to scans the subject matter in the text to
notice if the subject matter surveyed has wanted content.
• Skimming of content is important in riding to notice
important facts that need to be learned.
• Reading to follow directions is very valuable. In schools and
throughout life, a person reads directions so that proper
completion of a project is possible.

Using Workbooks To Achieve Objectives: The use of
workbooks in the Social Studies has been frowned
upon by numerous educators.

might be able to make it more sequential.
• - Perhaps, the teacher may need to teach selected
concepts and generalizations so that the new content
is understandable and students can be successful
learners in workbook activities.

Using Slides in Teaching: These would be very
suitable to show to pupils in an on-going unit of
study.
Using Filmstrips in Teaching Social Studies:
Filmstrips can be used much like slides to initiate,
develop and culminate a thematic unit in Social
Studies.
Using Overhead Projector: Using information
projected on the screen, pupils will say orally how
the given figures differ from one another.

Excursions in the Social Studies: To bring in more
reality into teaching and learning situations, teachers
have pupils visit places to experience first hand that
which is concrete and real.

Using Puppets: Pupils tend to enjoy making and
using puppets during discussions.

9. Conclusion:
The Social Studies teacher needs to use a variety of
learning opportunities in teaching pupils.
Learning opportunities are there to assist pupils to
achieve carefully chosen objectives. These objectives
must be relevant and important.
