By the end of the session attendees will be
able to
• Describe the usefulness of a clinical
journal club
• Apply de Bono’s Thinking Hats principles
in a journal club setting
Journal Clubs
• Highlight new findings.
• Teach practitioners how to search for interesting articles
representing the best evidence to inform clinical practice.
• Encourage practitioners to read and appraise
publications critically and give them the ability to do so.
• Encourage practitioners to do applied clinical research
and to show them how.
• Improve debating skills, demonstrate leadership skills,
and aid peer mentorship.

training and academic qualifications to be
able to examine, assess, make diagnoses,
treat, prescribe and make referrals for
patients who present with
undiagnosed/undifferentiated problems.

Applying Thinking Hats to Improve Journal Club Discussions

  • 5. The ANP Journal Club • Advanced Nurse Practitioners are Registered Nurses who have done extra training and academic qualifications to be able to examine, assess, make diagnoses, treat, prescribe and make referrals for patients who present with undiagnosed/undifferentiated problems.
