3. Indian-American Arun Subramaniam has been confirmed
as first South Asian District Judge for the Southern
District of New York.
In a tweet, Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck
Schumer confirmed the nomination of Mr. Subramanian
by a vote of 58-37. Senator Schumer said that
Subramanian dedicated his career to fighting for people.
South District New York notably has one of the largest
South Asian-American populations in the country.

4. Australian PM Anthony Albanese to arrive in
Ahmedabad today on 4-day visit to India
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will arrive in Ahmedabad today.
During his four-day-tour, Mr Albanese is scheduled to visit Mumbai and Delhi
as well.
He will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati
Bhawan on 10th March and call on President Droupadi Murmu.
Along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Australian Prime Minister will
hold the Annual Summit to discuss areas of cooperation under the India-
Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, besides regional and global
issues of mutual interest.
Prime minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Antony
Albanese will be on a two day visit to Gujarat from today.
Both the leaders will watch the first day of the fourth test match between the
two countries at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad tomorrow.
PM will arrive late evening while the Australian PM will reach Ahmedabad in
the evening. He is expected to visit Sabarmati Ashram today.

5. Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health
Infrastructure Mission
The PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission was launched in
October 2021 with an aim to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across India.
With a budget of Rs.64,180 crore, the mission has three aspects: strengthening
public health institutions, building an IT-enabled disease surveillance system,
and expanding research on infectious diseases.
The World Bank has announced the extension of 2 complimentary loans of 500
million USD each to India to support the PM Ayushman Bharat Health
Infrastructure Mission.
One of these loans will prioritize healthcare services in 7 states – Andhra
Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Public Health Systems for Pandemic Preparedness Program, with $500
million, is to support the government’s efforts to improve epidemic surveillance,
ensure timely response and prevent the emergence of novel pathogens.

6. The Great Pyramid of Giza, the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, is the largest
pyramid in Egypt and the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient
World.
Built over a period of approximately 27 years in the early 26th century
BC, it is located in the Pyramid Fields of Giza, Egypt.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is a World Heritage site.
Scientists have discovered a hidden passage inside the Great Pyramid of
Giza. This passage is 9 meters in length and more than 2 meters in width.
It was found in the northern face of the pyramid. The discovery was
made as part of the ScanPyramids project, which involves collaboration
between major universities in France, Germany, Canada and Japan and a
group of Egyptian experts.
This important discovery was enabled by cosmic-ray muon radiography,
a non-invasive technique for imaging large structures’ interiors.

7. What is Phyllurus fimbriatus?
Phyllurus fimbriatus, a new species of gecko, has been
discovered on an uninhabited Queensland Island of Australia.
It was found by Associate Professor Conrad Hoskin during a
four-day survey of Scawfell Island, about 50 km offshore from
Mackay in north Queensland.
The carnivorous reptile measures about 15 cm in length and has
a spiny leaf-shaped tail and a beaky face.
The lizard was named the Scawfell Island leaf-tailed gecko due
to the fringe of spines around its tail.
It has a V-shaped white stripe on its tail which is leaf-like.
The newly discovered gecko occupies a total area of less than 1
sq km and is found in the wettest, rainforest-covered, rockiest
pockets of Scawfell.

The Jan Aushadhi Train was flagged off recently in New Delhi by
union ministers Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Shri Ashwini
Vaishnaw.
It was launched as part of the week-long celebrations
commemorating the Jan Aushadhi scheme.
This is the second such train to be flagged off to create
awareness about the scheme.

9. CBIP Award 2022 was conferred recently to NTPC Limited for
the ‘Outstanding Contribution in Power Generation’.
The award recognizes the role of Vindhyachal Super Thermal
Power Station – the largest power station in India – in
efficiency and high-level power generation.
The award was conferred on the occasion of the CBIP Day, to
individuals and institutions in recognition of their outstanding
