After completing second stage surgery and
removing the healing collars, start the final
restoration.
In order to affix a final prosthesis to the implant
fixture, abutments must be used as intermediate
devices.
It is the component which extend through the
gingival tissue overlying the implant.

Implant position and angulation may
require different abutments to allow
optimum esthetics.

Visual inspection after
abutment surgery may
give an indication of
appropriate abutment
selection,

But the proper abutment can only be selected
by diagnostic procedures including trial setups
or provisional restorations on a diagnostic cast
with abutments incorporated in the trial
restoration. .
Aluminium abutment analogs are available for
use in diagnostic procedures to select the

Abutment Analogs

The implant abutment interface must
interlock to prevent rotation. The abutment
screw must withstand high enough torquing
forces to prevent it from becoming loose,
yet the force must not be so strong that it
will fracture the abutment screw .

Anti rotational features of
implant systems
Anti rotational features on implant inhibit
unwanted movement of their overlying
abutments. Anti rotational components in
current use include
External hex,
Internal hex,
Spline type interface,
Morse taper

External hex Is the most widely available.
It offers a great variety of
restorative options due to
interchangeability of
abutments among
manufacturers.
Abutment must engage the
external hex on top of
implant.

internal hex It provides more
precise implant to
abutment interface and
allows easier intra oral
abutment connection.
There is less abutment
movement once it is
seated and fastened.(Paragon and Frialit).

The spline
attachment
Are fin to groove anti
rotational configurations.
Each of the 6 external
components which are
called tines protrude 1
mm from implant and are
matched to a female
embedded in the
abutment base.

Morse taper design
Angled abutments-15&25degree inclinations.

Abutments can be obtained from
manufacture in machined form or
can be custom-cast by a laboratory
using manufactured gold or plastic
components.

• A preformed plastic pattern is fitted to the
abutment in the laboratory

Inlay casting wax is added and entire crown is
formed.

• The wax is then cut back so that the correct
bulk will be given to the areas in which
porcelain is to be added.

The backing is invested and cast in a gold –
content gold palladium alloy

After cleaning and polishing an opaque layer
is fired onto the backing &
Build up the remainder of the neck, body and
incisal edge of the crown.

Infinite position implants are available with a high noblemetal base
Suitable for a variety of implants, to which a plastic head is fitted at any
direction .
After determining the desired position & angulation,it may be cast in
gold to the base.
These abutments are screw retained.
(0 to 20 degrees)

Implant abutment preparation kit
Designed to give the clinician the proper
tools to correctly prepare titanium stock
implant abutments, or modify custom cast
implant posts to achieve proper fit and
emergence profile to optimize implant
prosthetics.

• 1. Attach the stock titanium post securely to
the appropriate implant analog.
• 2. Then place the analog / post combination
into the optional abutment holder. The
insulated abutment holder allows the clinician
to secure the abutment for proper preparation,
protecting the fingers from the heat generated
during the process.

• 3. Using the Gross Reduction heatless
stone, occlusal and proximal surfaces
can be modified.
• .

• 4. Once the desired gross
reduction has been
achieved, use the fine
tuning burs to refine the
margins to the proper
contours.
• 5. The marginal
configuration should
resemble that of the
naturally prepared tooth.

• 6. The Abutment Preparation Kit
comes with FOUR fine tuning burs.

• 8. The Abutment
Preparation Kit comes
with THREE polishing
wheels.
Use these polishing
wheels to smooth out
any rough spots. Use
from coarse to fine to
achieve the best results.
