Celts arrived in Spain in the 6th century BC, beginning the Iron Age. Romans ruled Spain from the 3rd to 5th century. Moors invaded in 711 and remained until 1492, developing Spanish culture, architecture, agriculture and administration. The Habsburgs took control in 1516 followed by the Bourbon dynasty in 1700. General Franco ruled as dictator from 1936 to 1975 until King Juan Carlos I of the Bourbon dynasty assumed the throne.
