  4. What is TOEFL If you are a international student looking to study in a university in an English speaking country, then you may need to take a TOEFL test. TOEFL is an acronym of the Test of English as a Foreign Language, which is the official name for the test. It assesses your ability to both speak and understand English by analizing your English ability in terms of reading, speaking, listening and writing.
  5. Why TOEFL is needed? Educational institutions and governmental agencies in over 130 countries accept TOEFL scores when considering applications for certain positions or courses. As an admission requirement, you may find that some courses require a minimum TOEFL score which will allow you to proceed onto the course alongside the regular course requirements. - Study for higher education - Work for global access
  6. Who needs to take a TOEFL test? The TOEFL test has been taken by over 27 million people worldwide to ensure their English ability is adequate. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers say. After you hear a dialogue and question about it, read the five possible answers and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard. Now listen to a sample question. Question 1 You will hear; Man : how about exercising tomorrow morning? Woman : all right. Pick me up at six You will also hear; Narrator: : what will the man do? You will read in your test book; a. In this part, the types of the monologue are based on the genres or text types written on the school based curriculum in senior high school (KTSP) such as; narrative, descriptive, report, exposition, explanation, discussion, news item, advertisement or announcement

Examples; - What might happen after the project finish? - Where will the children probably go at the end of the story? Distractions Some simple tips to understand the short talk; 1. Similar sounds 2. Wrong information 3. Illogical relations 4. Wrong reference / tenses - Read the questions carefully before listening to them - Don’t worry if you do not understand all the words in the dialogue - Listen to the dialogue completely before answering the question - Pay attention to the introductory part of the dialogue because it will help you to guess the topic of the conversation.
