Desalination
Industries
The desalination industries continue to expand
with tremendous growth, especially in Saudi
Arabia and throughout the MENA region. There
are nearly 16,000 desalination plants worldwide,
and global capacity is expected to grow from 66
million m3/day in 2011 to over 130 million m3/
day in 2016. Saudi Arabia is the largest desali-
nation producer in the world with 18% of global
capacity, while nearly 50% of all global desalina-
tion capacity is in the MENA region.
Desalination Capacity in MENA Region
Yanbu Industrial City has a strategic program to
support these industries as an Industrial Cluster,
providing products and services to both the re-
gion and entire world.
Yanbu is actively recruiting numerous support
industries already identified as part of desalina-
tion’s strategic supply chain.
These include: process chemicals, RO mem-
branes, treatment systems, tubing/piping, in-
struments/control, storage tanks, pumps, valves
and electrical components. Several of Yanbu In-
dustrial City’s existing industries are already po-
sitioned to support and grow with the desalina-
tion market, and many more are needed.
