support member states in integrating telemedicine services in healthcare systems

Telemedicine – definition*
Telemedicine is the provision of healthcare services, through
use of ICT, in situations where the health professional and the
pat e t (o t o ea t p o ess o a s) are ot t e sa e
patient (or two health professionals) a e not in the same
location.
Involves:
secure transmission of medical data and information,
through text, sound, images or other forms
for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients
Not regarded as telemedicine services:
health information portals,
electronic health record systems,
electronic transmission of prescriptions or referrals (e-prescription, e-referrals)
