IBB Family Law – Coaching Pilot
Divorce or separation and the breakdown of a family has an enormous emotional impact on all those involved. The
experience of going through this process can often cause individuals to feel lost, stuck and unable to cope, with many
struggling with their sense of identity as a consequence.
As family lawyers, we often see clients struggling with their future decisions, including arrangements for children and co-
parenting. People often find themselves unable to focus or make decisions about issues such as where they are going to live,
what will happen to their children and how they will fund their outgoings in the future. These issues can quickly become
overwhelming at what is already a difficult time.
At IBB Law, we pride ourselves on being able to support and advise people with regard to both the legal and practical issues
of going through a divorce or separation, but also the emotional aspects of having to deal with such a difficult period and
how this impacts you.
Clients often rely on us for referrals to other professional advisers for issues such as financial planning, tax advice and
calculations surrounding pensions. We believe it is equally as important to be able to refer clients to people who can care for
their mental and emotional wellbeing in the exactly the same way.
To ensure our clients receive the very best help and advice when they are dealing with this difficult time IBB have partnered
with divorce and separation coach Sarah Chaplin-Lee.
Together they have launched a Coaching Pilot programme to explore the benefits of expert coaching for clients during what
is often a traumatic and emotional time for them and their family. As this is a pilot programme IBB will share the costs of
each coaching session.
HERE IS A GUIDELINE OF WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR COACHING EXPERIENCE.
Roles & Expectations
 4 x 1-hour sessions, delivered virtually
 Time between sessions adjusted and agreed to suit you
 Conversations are completely confidential
 The focus on you, the client and what you need to move forward
What coaching is, and isn’t
 1:1 coaching is, at heart, a series of purposeful conversations between two individuals.

Coaching conversations are:
 Focused on your agenda, exploring the factors that impact your ability to be at your
best and live the life you want to live
 Goal (future) oriented, and solution (not problem) focused
 Rich with insight and learning where you will experience high quality listening,
attention, observation, questioning, support, challenge and feedback
 A place where you can stop and think, with someone who is thinking alongside you
with positive intent and that believes in your capabilities and potential
Coaching is not:
 Structured learning, training, therapy or counselling
 A way of someone else solving your problems for you
Common areas explored through coaching include:
 How to have difficult/complex conversations
 Shifting from a fixed mindset
 Exploring the parental status dynamics change, parenting as a single parent through to
parenting as part of a wider blended family
 Resilience and well-being
 Challenge to your identity
 Divorce is impacting work performance
 Feeling stuck and/or unable to move forward
